The aim of this module is to provide you with experience
of undertaking a substantial piece of research related to
the modules studied on your programme.
This should enable you to demonstrate personal enterprise, research prowess and self-reliance combined with a high level
of subject understanding and competence within the field of computing and emerging technologies.
The actual project is a major piece of work which must involve the application of emerging technologies in the field of computing and research skills at Master’s level. There will be an initial period of study on research methods and approach to prepare you for your project.
You will learn the advanced features of web engineering
technologies to create
rich internet applications including RIA tools such as Canvas, SVG and WebGL.
We will examine how to create statefull object-based thick client web applications, and implement MVC software engineering techniques – including how to create advanced user interactions, single webpage applications and asynchronous
communication between the web application and server.
This module will enable you to model, design and
implement native mobile
applications.
You will learn how to implement a native mobile application using iOS or Android and understand how to interact with multiple service tiers including mobile operating systems.
You will use latest and evolving industry standards SDKs and IDEs to develop complex data driven mobile apps.
As well as app development, we will focus on the knowledge and skills needed to understand implementation and deployment for internal and external app stores through the professional, ethical and best practice methodologies.

The module will teach you the emerging standards and processes for creating responsive web UI. It will teach you how to develop, implement and test advanced web UI allowing you to demonstrate practical and professional skills to create minified, reusable and scalable solutions through good project management, interaction design, CSS pre-processing and modularisation using SASS.
Learn how to succeed in front-end engineering through the application of
User Experience.
You will develop analytical and research skills to create user centred web and mobile experiences.
Understanding how to plan, present and understand workflows and interaction in web, mobile & desktop applications.
This module enables you to understand, learn and
develop with emerging web
engineering techniques and standards.
You will learn to utilise the practical skills and engineering principles for a suite of connected technologies leveraging HTML5, Javascript, jQuery and CSS3.
This will enable you to create high-performance web applications without the need for plugin technology and with reduced calls to servers whilst implementing HTML5 solutions that will work with legacy technologies and infrastructure.

This module teaches you the necessary skills and techniques to identify
security risks in web applications and mitigate
those risks through writing secure code.
The module will enable you to develop understanding and analytical skills for most critical/up-to-date web application security risks using professional security techniques (e.g. OWASP). You will also learn the practical skills and mitigation strategies to secure the risks.

The programme will last approximately 24 months, with students studying one weekend per month with courses running from 10am – 4pm.
