APPENDIX 3/1 – FENCING, GATES AND STILES General

3.1.1 Locations of all proposed fencing and gates, and the types required, are shown on the following drawings:

3.1.2 Requirements for temporary fencing shall be in accordance with the Clauses 302 & 303.

3.1.3 Preservation to temporary fencing shall be at the discretion of the Contractor so long as the fence is maintained in good order until the time it can be removed.

3.1.4 Temporary fencing shall be erected to prevent unauthorised access to the site at pedestrian and vehicular access points. The minimum standard for this fencing is required to be 1.8m high fencing to Clause 303.1. The fencing shall be designed to resist wind loading.

Timber quality

3.1.5 Requirements for timber quality shall be in accordance with the Clause 304.

Fittings

3.1.6 Requirements for bolts, screws and nuts shall be in accordance with the Clause 305.

Permanent fencing: wooden fencing, gates and stiles including planting works fencing

3.1.7 All permanent fencing shall be erected to present a flowing alignment both in plan and elevation in accordance with the requirements of sub-Clause 306.1. Where a fence is provided on ground otherwise undisturbed by the works, the ground level around the fence shall be trimmed as necessary. Setting out of the works shall be in accordance with the general requirements of Appendix 1/12.

3.1.8 The fencing shall be neatly and effectively joined to existing hedges, fences and other structures in accordance with the requirements of sub-Clause 306.1 and comply with HCD Drawing Number H36.

3.1.9 All posts to all timber post and 3 rail fencing and 4 rail fencing shall be either driven, augered or set in concrete as per Cambridgeshire County Council Standard Detail EHA/0300/010.

3.1.10 All fencing in areas of peat or other soft ground shall have posts set in ST2 concrete as shown on the respective detail, as listed below.

Fencing Type 1 is to be a timber post, 4 rail fence constructed as stated in Cambridgeshire County Council Standard Detail EHA/0300/010.

Fencing Type 2 is to be a timber post, 3 rail fence constructed as stated in HCD

Fencing Type 3 is to be a 1.8m high steel palisade security fence as stated in Network Rail Drawing 078481/CV/001 as amended by any specific requirements of Network Rail, and Drawing Numbers KDY-BWB-RGN-XX-DR-CB-0001-0003.

Fencing Type 4 is to be a timber post, 4 rail fence constructed as stated in Cambridgeshire County Council Standard Detail EHA/0300/010, with a double row hedge of whips to be planted on the property side of the fence.

Fencing Type 5 is to be a 1.8m high timber close-boarded fence as stated in HCD H14.

Fencing Type 6 is to be a 1.2m high metal kee-klamp guardrail fence or similar placed alongside the back of the wingwalls.

3.1.11 Stock proofing is required at locations where livestock are in fields. Requirements for stock proofing must be agreed with the landowner.

3.1.12 No painting is required.

3.1.13 Where fence forms a boundary between a highway and private property, the rails shall be fixed to the private property side.

Preservation of timber

3.1.14 Prior to preservation treatment and when moisture content is 28% or below, determined in accordance with BS EN 13183-1 or BS EN 13183-2, the timber quality shall comply with Clause 304. Defects unaffected by moisture content shall not be accepted at any time.

3.1.15 Details of preservative treatment to be in accordance with the requirements of Clause 311.

Timber bollards

3.1.16 Timber bollards to be accordance with Clause 22.01 and Appendix 21 of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Housing Estate Road Construction Specification. The specification is available online at the following link:

3.1.17 Cambridgeshire County Council will provide all the padlocks required for gates installed as part of the permanent works.

3.1.18 Dimensions a, b and c are shown in HCD H17/18/19.

Metal Guardrail Fencing

3.1.19 For details of metal guardrail fence at wingwall structures refer to Drawing Numbers KDY-CAH-SBR-XX-DR-CB-0119, KDY-CAH-SBR-XX-DR-CB-0202 and KDY-BWB-HFE-02-DR- CH-0300.

3.1.20 Guardrail fence is to be a 1.1m high above ground level with foundation to be cast up against back of coping unit

3.1.21 Guardrail fence to be Kee-Klamp or similar proprietary system, Class 3 – normal requirement for parapet and heavy duty guardrail in accordance with BS 7818 and be designed for loading as specified in Clause 2.1.3.1.

3.1.22 The rail fence is to be of galvanised steel.

3.1.23 The rail fence posts are to be fixed vertically.

3.1.24 The fixing of the rail fence to the concrete foundations is to be a drill and fix system.

Palisade Fencing

3.1.25 For details of Palisade fencing refer to Drawing Numbers KDY-BWB-HFE-05-DR-CH-0300 and KDY-BWB-RGN-XX-DR-CB-0001-003.

Deep Water Warning Signage

3.1.26 Deep water warning signage shall be supplied and fixed to the fencing surrounding attenuation ponds and the Star Pit. Signs shall be provided to include at least one sign per aspect with maximum spacing of 50m. Where a non-motorised user route runs along the side of the pond signage shall be provided at each end.

3.1.27 The contractor shall supply sign faces which shall contain the information provided in the example given as Figure 3.1 below.

3.1.28 Fixings to the fencing shall be proprietary fixings suitable for the intended use and fence substrate. The sign shall be on the outside of the fencing, facing outwards.

3.1.29 The sign face shall be provided in dibond and shall be durable and suitable for outdoor use.
