NO TIME

I knelt to pray, but not for long, I had too much to do.

Must hurry off and get to work, For bills would soon be due.

And so I said a hurried prayer, Jumped, up from off my knees,

My Christian duty was done.

My soul could be at ease.

All through the day I had not time To speak a word of Christ to friends.

They’d laugh at me I feared.

No time, no time, too much to do.

That was my constant cry.

No time to give to those in need.

At last ‘twas time to die.

And when before the Lord I came I stood with down cast eyes.

Within his hands he held a book.

It was the “Book of Life.”

God looked into his book and said Your name I cannot find.

I once was going to write it down But never found the time.

-- Msgr Lawrence Luciana

FOR

S

EPTEMBER

That the mentally disabled may receive the love and help they need for a dignified life.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Worker’s Compensation This summer, 25,000 gro- cery workers walked off the job to protect their bonuses, profit sharing and working conditions. Last week, thou- sands of fast-food workers rallied, demanding a living wage. Right now, most employers in the US are being very careful, making sure part-time workers don’t work 30 hours so that they don’t have to offer them medical insurance. Older people are being laid off (or not hired) for fear that their medical issues will raise group rates.

In other words, today’s gospel could not be more timely!

In the parable, the “master” pays his workers according to their needs, not their timecards. And he gets criti- cized for it. Jesus understands where his listeners are

coming from, but he’d like to lead them elsewhere. He

wants them to think like God! As Jesus has mentioned

many times, God provides sunshine and rain for the

good and the not-so-good, provides food for those who

deserve it and those who don’t, provides his love and

support to those who are easy to love and those who

aren’t. Why? Because they need it. If we thought more

like God, our first concern would be for a person’s

needs. Once these were met, we could try to provide

for his wants. And this second stage could take into

consideration effort and responsibilities. This two-tiered

compensation could alleviate our obsession over “what

is fair” and, at the same time, respect everyone’s right

to a decent life. God sure knows what He’s doing!

We will begin collecting items for the Angel Fair (White Elephant) on Sat- urdays during October from 8AM until noon—St. Gabriel Parish Center (Franklin).

K of C Council will be showing the movie Heaven is for Real on this Thursday Sep- tember 25th at 7PM in the basement at St. Mary , Tilton. Mark your calendars and join us in viewing this movie based on

real life experiences.

having the students attend regularly.

The High School Program is starting with a hike to Inspiration Point this Sunday afternoon. Par-

ticipants are asked to meet in Franklin at 2:30 PM. Plans are to return by 5:30PM.

.It is very important that your children attend classes regularly.

THEME BASKETS for the Angel Fair

This week theme:

“FROZEN”

The Movie

Suggested items: video, coloring books, t-shirts, toys, posters, etc.!

God Bless our Newly Baptized We warmly welcome Trevor Jacob and Evan David St. Clair , twin sons of Jacob St. Clair and Elizabeth McDonald; Emer- son Patrick Glines son of Stephen Glines and Meghan (O’Brien) Glines; and Maddie Marie Lepesqueur daughter of Tom Lepesqueur and Justine (Jordan) Lepesqueur who became Catholics and members of our faith community last Sunday.

May our prayers and example help them get closer to God!

DID YOU NOTICE?

In each church there is a new piece of artwork.

These beautiful embossed copper scenes were created by Albert Gilles in Chateau–

Richer, Quebec, Canada; who also fabri- cated the gorgeous copper doors at the Saint-Anne de Beaupre Shrine. These illus- trations are a gift to our parish from the group that traveled to Montreal and Quebec City this summer.

The beautiful frames were the work of Paul DeGuise, our parishioner.

At St. Paul’s, we see the angel coming down just in time, to stop Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac.

At St. Mary’s, we see the angel comforting the prophet Elijah, who has fled to the desert because Queen Jezebel is trying to kill him.

Though the Bible does not name the angel in these accounts, popular tradition holds that it is Gabriel, CONVERT INSTRUCTION

CLASSES (RCIA)

Since we have no inquirers, there will be no RCIA Classes this year. Instead we are planning to offer an adult educa- tion program, a type of Bible Study Program. We are in the process of putting this together, so please watch the bulletin for information on this.

As part of their ongoing service to community families, the Franklin VNA & Hospice is providing a Grief Support Group on six Wednesday evenings this Fall. This group offers a caring environment to provide in- dividuals an opportunity to discuss their losses and their grief with the mutual support of others.

The session begins Wednesday, October 15 thru November 19 from 4PM to 6PM at the Franklin VNA & Hospice Office at 75 Chestnut Street.

Pre registration is required. Please contact Nancy

at 934-3454 for additional information and pre-

registration.
