WHY DO I HAVE A SASSA PAYMENT CARD?
The SASSA Payment Card was provided to enable you to access your social grant every month while you remain an approved social grant recipient or beneficiary. Your social grant is loaded onto your SASSA Payment Card every month.
HOW DO I USE MY SASSA BIOMETRIC PAYMENT CARD?
Your SASSA Payment Card can be used from the first day of the month at either a conventional Cash
Pay Point or at a participating payment vendor (such as Boxer, Pick & Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar) or at an ATM.
When you get to a CASH PAY POINT you will be requested to place one of your fingers onto a finger print scanner and your fingerprint will be verified against the one on your SASSA Payment Card after which your social grant money gets automatically paid to you.
Should you opt to go to a participating payment vendor (such as Boxer, Pick & Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar) proceed directly to the cashier and request payment – you can determine the amount.
Should you wish to withdraw, provided it does not exceed the amount which is available on your card. The cashier will swipe your card at the electronic fund stransfer (EFT) device and request you to place your finger on the biometric scanner or key in your secret PIN on the EFT device. If the PIN is found to be correct the cashier will be able to process payment of your grant money.
If you proceed to an ATM you will insert your card into the card slot/opening – where after you will be prompted to key in your secret PIN, select the type of bank account you have (which in this nstance is a Savings Account). Next, you will be prompted to type in the amount you wish to withdraw. The money will be dispensed by the ATM.
How do beneficiaries access their social grant on a monthly basis?
Social grant is available from the 1st day of every month. However, the beneficiaries do not have to draw their money and stand in a queue for long hours. They can go anytime during the course of the month from the 1st to the 25th of the month to draw their social grant.
What is Proof of Life?
Proof of Life Certification is a means through which a beneficiary must prove that he/she is alive in order to receive his/her grant. It also ensures that the correct person is paid. Funds cannot be activated unless biometric authentica- tion is performed (either through voice or finger biometric).
DO I PAY TO WITHDRAW MY GRANT?
Should you go to a CASH PAY POINT to withdraw your grant, the service is FREE. Should you go to a participating payment vendor (such as Boxer, Pick & Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar) to withdraw your grant, the service is FREE and you can not be forced to purchase anything inthe shop – that is optional and it is your choice.
Should you go to an ATM to make a withdrawal, normal banking charges will apply – therefore you can not withdraw the full grant amount but must maintain either a minimum balance as required by your bank or ensure that money is available in your bank account to pay for the cost of the bank charges incurred for using the ATM.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY IS AVAILABLE ON MY SASSA PAYMENT CARD?
At any of the ATMs and point-of-sale you can request a balance enquiry. At the ATM the cost is a saswitch-valued cost. The service at the cash pay point and at the participating payment vendor (such as Boxer, Pick & Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar) is FREE of charge.
DO I GET A RECEIPT AFTER DRAWING MONEY?
In all instances you must get a receipt which will state the following: money available, amount withdrawn and balance still available.
WHAT IS A PIN?
Your PIN code is the 4-digit number that you choose when you first received your SASSA Payment Card. Your PIN must be kept secure (a secret). Do not share your PIN with any other person – because they can then use your card and draw your money.
Do beneficiaries have to set a PIN?
No, the beneficiary may opt to only have finger- print biometric security on his/her bank card.
If this option is exercised no PIN is set and no voice biometrics are recorded. The beneficiary must understand that he/she will only be able to access his/her grant at a pay point or at a participating payment vendors if there is no PIN set on the card. If the beneficiary would like to set a PIN on his/her card voice recordings will be made.
Should the beneficiary decides to set a PIN at a later stage he/she can return to the SASSA Office
to set a PIN on his/her SASSA card at the SASSA local office.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I USE THE WRONG PIN?
If you have forgotten your PIN and entered the wrong PIN 3 times at an ATM, the card is retained by the ATM and the card will not be returned to you.
If you use the incorrect PIN at the participating payment vendor (such as Boxer, Pick &
Pay,Checkers, Shoprite, Spar) the money will not be paid over and your card will be locked.
WHAT MUST I DO IF I FORGOT MY PIN?

What must a beneficiary do if the ATM does not pay out?
