Toolbar and Desktop
The Toolbar (top of screen) has other important icons such as the blue Apple icon. This icon contains some of the options of the Start menu including log off, shut down, etc.
The Toolbar also has the following icons: Finder (My Computer), File, Edit, View, Go, Window, and Help.
On the right side of the Toolbar you will find icons for internet connection, volume, time, and spotlight (search).
The desktop will primarily have only the APP 115 (and
station #) icon which is equivalent to My Computer on a PC.
Mapping Network Drives
Connecting to Network Drives
In order to connect to a drive on the Mac Computers, passwords must be eight letters or LESS or access will not be granted. After entering your password, a screen will come up about sending your password, select [Continue].
To Map the H Drive
Go > Connect to Server > Type server name associated with student account (teak, elm, oak,
etc.) > [Connect] > log in > [Continue] >
choose SERVER.DATA (ex: TEAK.DATA) > [OK]
To Map the S Drive
Go > Connect to Server > Type in sequoia >
[Connect] > log in > [Continue] > choose SEQUOIA.DEPT > [OK]
To Map the T Drive
Go > Connect to Server > Type in sequoia > [Connect] > log in > [Continue] >
choose SEQUOIA.PROJ > [OK]
Disconnecting From Network Drives
To disconnect from a Network Drive, you must drag the icon on the desktop to the trash can. The trash can will turn into an eject sign. Release the drive icon onto it. It will take a few moments for the drive icon to disappear from the desktop. Once it disappears, you are disconnected from that drive.
Printing
To print a document, go to: File > Print or
Press [Command] (Apple key on the keyboard) + [P].
You should NOT save to the desktop but should save to a flash drive instead.
This is due to the fact that documents are deleted & cleared out periodically because the same desktop is used for each user.

Special Mac Programs
There are several general programs that can be used on the Mac and are typically found in the dock (or in Finder > Applications). Reminder: Do not save any work from these (or any) programs to the computer, but rather to a flash drive.
Photo Booth
With this program, you can take pictures of yourself and/or others from the camera located at the top middle of the computer monitor. When the camera is activated, a small green light will appear to the right of the camera.
Garage Band
This program can be useful to music majors who need to work with different tracks of music for projects.
iDVD
You can burn a DVD onto a DVD-R with this program.
iMovie
Pictures and video clips can be used to create a short movie.
iPhoto
Pictures can be edited (very basic editing options) using this program.
iChat
This is the equivalent to AOL Instant Messenger. You must type in your name, account type (AIM or .MAC), as well as your AIM account name and password. Then press [Continue].
When you open iChat, if someone else’s log in name displays, you will need to click on iChat (in the toolbar)
> Preferences > change the AIM screen name from the last person who used it to yours and enter your
password. The buddy list window will now display your username. Click the drop down arrow under your
name and select “Available.” If prompted for your password again, enter it and select [OK].
GroupWise
GroupWise on the Macs is very similar to the regular GroupWise with some similarities to the web version as well.
When GroupWise is opened, it will ask for a password, you must choose [Cancel] as it is asking for the password of the last person to use GroupWise on that computer.
It will then bring up a screen for you to change the User ID and enter your password. Then select [OK].
