Limited  Permit  X-­‐ray  Technician  Program  

Responsibilities of a Limited X-ray Technician

Due  to  the  strong  pay  and  solid  job  prospects,  more  and  more  people  are  becoming  X-­‐ray   technicians.  Additionally,  employment  in  the  medical  field  is  projected  to  grow  faster  than   average,  and  job  opportunities  are  expected  to  be  favorable.  If  you  are  interested  in  science   and  technology  and  also  like  helping  people,  then  this  might  be  the  career  for  you.  X-­‐ray  techs   produce  radiographs  of  various  parts  of  a  patient’s  body  for  analysis  by  a  Doctor  or  Radiologist.   Career  Care  Institute’s  Limited  Permit  X-­‐ray  Technician  program  will  prepare  the  graduate  to   take  the  California  State  Examination  in  three  limited  permit  categories:  Chest,  Extremities,  

and  Torso  skeletal.  The  student  will  also  receive  training  in  vitals,  ancillary  medical  procedures   and  receive  certificate  of  instruction  in  venipuncture  and  injections;  and  electrocardiograms.  

Limited  permit  radiographers  are  trained  to  perform  radiographic  procedures  and  ancillary   medical  procedures  commonly  needed  in  outpatient  clinics,  physicians’  offices,  and  ambulatory   care  centers,  Urgent  Care  Facilities  and  some  Imaging  Centers.  

 

Digital  Radiography    

The  Radiologic  Health  Branch  of  the  California  Department  of  Health  Services  has  approved   digital  radiography  for  limited  permit  radiographer  and  CCI  has  added  it  to  its  curriculum.  What   does  that  mean  for  YOU?  It  means  that  after  completion  of  our  program,  you  will  be  able  to   work  in  a  variety  of  x-­‐ray  settings  including  those  Facilities  that  have  the  newest  equipment  in   Digital  Radiography.  

 

Start  Date:  April  27,  2015    

Length  of  Program   Months:   10-­‐11   Weeks:   40   Hours:     900     Class  Schedule    

Theory:        Mon  -­‐Thurs:  Evenings  5:00pm  –  9:30pm                            

 

Externship:    336  hours  (mandatory  to  receive  certificate)  Monday  through  Friday  8-­‐5  or  9-­‐6;

Prerequisites

A  High  School  Diploma  or  GED  equivalent,  Passing  Score  on  Pre-­‐Entrance  Exam,  Enrollment,   Negative  TB  results,  and  School  Orientation  is  required  before  being  accepted  into  the  Program;    

Testing  Dates  and  Requirements  

• Monday  -­‐  Thursday  at  3:00  pm  or  Friday  at  10  am  -­‐  by  appointment  only!   • Other  testing  arrangements  may  be  made  by  request.    

• $30  Cash  ONLY  fee  is  required  on  or  before  testing  date.  Testing  will  begin  promptly  and   no  one  will  be  admitted  once  testing  has  begun.  

• Testing  Process  will  take  about  1  hour  to  1  ½.     • Entrance  test  is  Valid  for  1  year  ONLY.  

Graduation

Upon  graduation  the  graduate  will  be  awarded  a  Certificate  of  Completion  in  Limited  Permit  X-­‐

Ray  Technology  in  Chest,  Extremities  and  Torso-­‐skeletal.  Additionally,  students  completing  the   Basic  Back  Office  (BBO)  skills  training  will  receive  certification  in  Venipuncture,  Injections  and   EKG.   The   graduate   will   then   be   eligible   to   take   the   State   Limited   X-­‐Ray   Technology   Examinations  for  Core,  Chest,  Extremities,  and  Torso-­‐skeletal.  

 (Note:  The  Graduate  must  pass  the  California  State  Examination  to  receive  a  position  as  a  

Limited  X-­‐ray  Technician.  Additionally,  graduates  will  receive  a  refresher  course  during  their   externship  to  help  them  prepare  for  the  California  State  Examination.)  

JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED TO ALL GRADUATES IN ALL PROGRAMS

(Note:   Students   attending   pm   classes   must   be   available   to   complete   externship  

training  during  regular  business  hours.  CCI  cannot  guarantee  that  students  will  be  

placed   in   a   clinical   site   during   evening   hours.   Additionally,   XT   students   must  

complete  a  minimum  of  34  hours  per  week  of  clinical  training.)

Course  Summary  

MA11  Basic  Back  Office  (BBO)  Skills:  96  Hours  

This  course  covers  medical  terminology  word  parts,  abbreviations.  The  student  will  learn  how   to  take  a  patient  history,  height/weight,  temperature,  pulse,  respirations  and  blood  pressure.   Student   lab   activities   will   include   vital   signs   using   various   methods,   injections,   venipuncture,   EKG,  and  urinalysis.  

 

XT1  Limited  Permit  X-­‐ray  Technician  Module  1:  229.5  hours  

This  module  is  an  introduction  to  limited  radiography,  pertinent  terminology,  medical  ethics,  

equipment   operation,   radiological   physics,   film   critique,   darkroom   and   film   processing,   mathematics  and  exposure  techniques  for  the  limited  radiographer,  digital  radiography  and   radiation  protection.  

 

XT2  Limited  Permit  X-­‐ray  Technician  Module  2:  202.5  hours  

Student  will  observe  procedures  and  be  required  to  perform  procedures  in  the  X-­‐ray  laboratory.   This  module  will  cover  radiographic  anatomy  and  physiology,  radiography  positioning  of  the  

chest,  extremities,  and  torso  skeletal,  and  pediatric  and  geriatric  patients.    

XT3  Limited  Permit  X-­‐ray  Technician  Module  3-­‐4:  372  hours  

The   student   will   be   required   to   complete   minimum   amount   of   radiographic   procedures:   50  

Chest,  200  Torso  skeletal  X-­‐rays,  50  lower  and  50  upper  extremities.  The  externship  period  is   a  minimum  total  of  336  externship  hours  (minimum  of  34  hours  per  week.  Externship  will  be  

completed   after   didactic   training.   The   student   may   complete   externship   at   their   current  

employer,  if  radiographic  services  are  available.  Please  note  that  current  employers  must  first  

be   approved   by   the   CDPH/RHB   to   accept   students,   we   can   provide   you   and   your   employer   with  the  information  needed  to  do  so.  If  not,  the  student  must  cooperate  with  the  externship
