01.
Introduction
Welcome to the Installation of MITA Virtual Private Network Installation Guide. The system allows access to the MAGNET services from your Internet connection in a secure manner.
Before starting the installation, ensure that the following are available:
The Operating System installed on the workstation should be listed in Minimum Operating Requirements (Page 4).
A workstation connected to the Internet via a MITA Internet connection or another Internet Service Provider.
Reboot the workstation, if another software installation was performed prior to the MITA VPN Client installation.
Ensure that Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service is disabled in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Refer to Disabling the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service section (Page 13) at the end of the document, if necessary.
Administrator privileges on the workstation are obligatory.
Security token (hardware or software –based) supplied by MITA.
A clean (fresh) installation of MITA VPN Client software is required if upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista or Windows 7. This is done by manually uninstalling any old VPN Software first, then after the upgrade, reinstall the VPN software as indicated in Installation of the MITA VPN Client
Software Section.

Once connected to the VPN, the access granted over the Internet is identical to the access granted from the Government Internet. Therefore services such as MSN Messenger will not connect.02.
Minimum Operating Requirements
The following information lists the minimum system requirements to support the installation of the MITA VPN Client software:

02.2.2 Internet Browsers
An internet browser shall be used to perform the initial installation of the MITA VPN Client software. The following table lists the supported Internet Browsers, depending on the underlying platform

02.2.3 Other Notes
MITA VPN Client Installation should only be carried out through the previously mentioned internet browsers. Google Chrome Internet Browser does not support the installation.

Installation of the MITA VPN Client Software
1. Open the Internet Browser and log on to http://vpn.mita.gov.mt/
2. Click on the Software link.
3. Click on the appropriate Operating System from the list.
4. Click on MITA VPN.exe to initialise the download of the VPN Client installation software.
6. On the Internet Explorer – Security Warning dialogue box click Run to proceed with the software installation.
7. If Windows Vista or Windows 7 is being used, the dialogue box for a confirmation appears. Click Allow or Continue to proceed with the installation.

Connecting to the MITA VPN Service
1. To connect to the MITA VPN click once on the Taskbar VPN icon marked with an arrow below. Then click the Connect button.
2. When prompted, enter your username and password, and then click OK. The username shall not include CORP\. The password shall consist of the CORP Password and the number shown on the Security Token. While the VPN Client software is trying to establish a connection, the text items in the AnyConnect dialogue box will grey out.
3. Once the user is authenticated, a banner, similar to the one shown below will be displayed. The text in the banner notifies the user that he/she forms part of a particular VPN Group (depending on the access rights required). To accept the conditions provided in the banner and confirm the connection to the VPN, click the Accept button.
5. Once the checks are complete, the VPN connection will be established. To verify VPN connectivity, confirm that the VPN icon in the Taskbar has a Closed Padlock on top of it.
6. If the mouse is moved on the VPN icon while the VPN connection is established, a message similar to the one below will appear.

Disconnecting from the MITA VPN Service
To disconnect from the MITA VPN click once on the Taskbar VPN icon marked with an arrow below. Then click the Disconnect button.

Disabling the Internet Connection Sharing Service
To disable the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service for Windows Vista and Windows 7, follow the instructions below. If this service is not disabled, the MITA VPN Client software will not be able to connect.
1. Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking
Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage Network Connections.
2. Right-click the shared network connection, and then click Properties. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation by clicking
Continue.
