From the Executive Director’s Desk

Hurry up Spring!! I don’t know about you, but for me Spring cannot arrive soon enough. Someone recently said the best thing about February is that it only has 28 days. Perhaps I didn’t really appreciate that saying until I received a taste of a Virginia winter.

We have wrapped up our vaccine clinics and overall they have been very successful. I can say that approximately 95% of residents and 50% staff chose to get the vaccine. Our staff did a wonderful job hosting, organizing, and ensuring the process was carried out efficiently. Now that we are moving forward post vaccines, we hope to safely resume some of the day to day we have been accustomed to prior to Covid. Slowly looking at some ways we can visit with family or get back to somewhat of a communal dining experience. Stay tuned. 

In some ways we have taken a pause and in other ways we have been full steam ahead. I received word that our new awning at the 300 entrance will be arriving early March.

Francks’ Place is really starting to look like the promising dining venue we have been mentioning so much! We continue to move forward with renovations throughout the community and interest from prospects continues to be strong. The ‘Light at the end of the tunnel’ reference has been used a lot; however, I do feel like we can truly see it.

I would like to remind and encourage each of us to continue efforts in being socially responsible. We have done a great job and by keeping our guard up we

will continue to keep Residents and staff safe. Wait 6’ apart Wash your hands Wear your mask See ya’ around!

“Are You in a Storm?”

During a snowstorm last winter, I stood in the doorway of our house barn taking a break from a little work. Ice preceded the snow and our side of the mountain was too

slippery for the horses to safely go out. And when the horses stay in their stall, it means somebody has to clean them out when the horses do finally get to go out.

So there I was— just staring out into the woods on a snowy day, admiring how beautiful everything looked. When a snowstorm strikes and leaves a lot of snow on the

ground, you can stand in the barn doorway, look up through the woods on a nearby mountain, and see much better than you can usually. The contrast is much better since

normally the trees and ground blend together at this time of year.

As I stood there staring into the woods, I saw a woodpecker land on a tree nearby, his brilliant red-head burning brightly against the snowy backdrop. I had heard him earlier that week— before the snowstorm—and searched the woods for him, but I

couldn't see him. The snow filling the woods created the contrast I needed to see him. You know, the storms of life work in the same way. Yes, they are painful. Yes, they do

take us by surprise. Yes, I wish they didn't happen, too. But they do without our permission. They attach us at home, free time, with friends, and all places. However,

these life storms create a contrast that we need in order to see God’s loving brilliance burning brightly, showing us the way God in the midst of a cold and icy world. So the next time a storm assaults you—not if, but when—just remember to take a break, and look our into your life’s storm. As you are looking, listen to life today for what God has to say to you in the midst of your storm and the help He brings to you!

Listen to your life: 1. Recall a recent storm you found yourself in. What happened? 2. How did you feel? What did you think? 3. Where was God in the storm? What contrast did the storm give you so you could see and hear God at work in your life?
