The Challenge: Physical Network Infrastructure is

Vital to Business Yet More Difficult to Manage

With the rise of global online business, communication networks and data centers are becoming increasingly vital to the success of organizations, and are constantly required to increase output while maintaining stability and reliability - since every minute of downtime translates into lost earnings.

Maintaining network infrastructure, however, is increasingly difficult: as data centers become larger and more geographically distributed, they pose a major burden on IT budgets and are a challenge to manage and maintain manually.

Manual network maintenance is labor intensive and error prone; and since most downtime stems from errors in the physical network, manual maintenance may also contribute to the occurrence of downtime.

.

The Answer: PatchView+ Intelligent

infrastructure Management

PatchView+ is the next-generation Intelligent Infrastructure Management solution (IIM) from RiT Technologies, the inventors of IIM.

PatchView+ brings real-time visibility, monitoring and control of all network physical-layer components; identifying points of failure in real time before they escalate; automating work processes and eliminating manual errors; provisioning new equipment and enabling full utilization of all IT assets - down to the last port.

Support for Interconnect Topology

PatchView+ is the first IIM solution to truly support interconnect topology, as well as cross-connect and mixed network topologies. So IT managers can deploy it for optimal management and control in any type of network – now or in the future.

What PatchView+ Does for your Network:

Reduced network downtime and improved output.

Increased work efficiency and elimination of errors.

Support for interconnect topology.

Reduced power consumption.

Lower management and technician overhead.

Optimized utilization of infrastructure.

Support for Interconnect Network Topology

PatchView+ is the industry’s first IIM solution to truly support mixed interconnect, cross-connect and combined topologies, as well as combined copper and fiber cabling. PatchView+ supports future Ethernet protocols (including 1/10/40/100 Gbps over copper and fiber respectively).

New Architecture that Saves on Space and Power

PatchView+ requires Zero U of rack space to support an unlimited number of ports, which means major reduction in the number of panels inside the rack and reduced power, cooling and space consumption. Fewer components also mean fewer points of failure.

A Comprehensive Real-Time View of the Entire Network Infrastructure

The IP Discovery Module creates a visual map of the complete network that is updated in real-time: from building and floor level, down to cabinet, rack, device and port level. The map includes device location, IP and MAC address, host name and type, as well as precise links between devices, switches and ports.

Monitoring and Alerting

PatchView+ continuously monitors the network, including all physical connections and environment sensors; sending proactive alarms on any threshold deviations or a compromise of pre-defined rules.

Detailed Reports

PatchView+ generates detailed reports, alerts and notifications according to pre-set rules, providing vital information on a wide array of network variables such as switch utilization, connectivity, work orders, and more.

Automated Work Orders

PatchView+ generates automated guided work orders, with a mobile application and light indicators to rack and panel; so technicians can get to the right place in minimum time and update upon completion with zero manual errors.

Equipment utilization

PatchView+ checks equipment utilization, such as switches and panel ports, so managers can ensure that all ports on current switches are utilized before investing in additional expensive equipment.

PatchView+: The Next Generation

Intelligent Infrastructure

Management Solution

Provisioning, Asset Management and Support for Network Changes

The PatchView+ automatic provisioning module optimizes placement of IT equipment according to space, power and cooling variables for effective lifecycle management and planning, including “what if” scenarios and simulation of potential changes.

Improved Network security

The “Unauthorized Device” feature designates specific devices to ports and generates alerts if unauthorized connects/disconnects to the ports are attempted. In addition, the patented ID Key detects attempts at unauthorized connections to IT assets such as servers and switches.

PatchView+ also complements application security solutions, providing the physical location of the infected device and helping IT staff zero-in quickly on security threats.

Strong Integration with External Applications

PatchView+ integrates seamlessly with external applications such as building management systems, IT systems and billing systems, using an easily deployable SDK.

Environment Monitoring

Environment sensors provide real-time monitoring and alerting to climate deviations at the rack level, so managers can be alerted to equipment overheating and other malfunctions before damage is done.

Network Security

The PatchView+ ID Key which enables PatchView+ to track network devices in real time, also detects attempts at unauthorized connections to devices such as switches and servers.

A RiT customer commented, “If an unauthorized user tries to connect to one of our servers, panels or switches anywhere in the world, or hook up an unauthorized device - we know about it immediately.

“How much is this worth to me? Well, how much our customers’ confidential information – in fact all my business information – worth to me?”

The link information is then gathered by the PatchView+ Manager that uses it to provide various services such as mapping the network, alerts, reports and more.

A visual map of the physical connectivity between the switch port to an outlet.

Mobile application to manage and update work orders from tablet and smart phone.

This functionality is achieved with the PatchView+ patented Smart ID Key that resides in the switch port and stores the link information. The PatchView+ patented

technology provides a designated ID number to every IP active equipment port located in the IT cabinets.

This enables to identify and track any patching changes made to the network, regardless of vendor or connection methodology (through support for RJ-45, LC or MPO connector interface).

PatchView+ Manager

Software Platform

The PatchView+ manager is a robust, highly versatile platform with an intuitive GUI for managing every aspect of your data center.

PatchView+ Software Features:

Support for interconnect, cross connect and combined network topologies.

IP Discovery Module creates a visual map of all IP-driven devices in the network, providing location, link information, IP and MAC address, host name and type; and providing exact links between devices, switches and ports.

Proactive alarms and notifications, including “unauthorized device” identification.

Real-time updating of the network map in case of any changes to equipment status or connectivity.

A web application that can be installed on any computer enables remote monitoring and control of multiple sites.

Detailed reports compiled and generated according to pre-set rules, provide information on a wide array of network variables such as switch utilization, connectivity status, work order status, environment and more.

Automatic provisioning of new equipment enables to place IT assets optimally, taking into account variables such as space, power and cooling, available switches and ports, and more.

Automated work order generation, including multi-tasks; with tablet and smart phone application for onsite work order execution by technicians, real-time supervision of work progress, and real-time updating of network database upon completion.

Integration with external applications such as BMS, IT, management systems and billing, using an easily deployable SDK.

“Unauthorized Device” designates specific devices to ports and generates alerts if unauthorized connects/disconnects are attempted.

Ensuring Full Utilization of Assets

Sometimes a single IIM function deployed once can save the organization more than the total investment in IIM. A large international university deploying PatchView+ ran the automated device-tracking feature that discovers lost or “orphaned” equipment.

As a result they discovered that 40% of their switch-ports were not being used. So an array of hundreds of switches costing over $500,000 was not being fully utilized. With PatchView+ they were able to locate the vacant ports, postponing a planned procurement of additional expensive switches.

Using PatchView+ for Billing

A RiT customer integrated PatchView+ with its Oracle Services System in order to enable accurate billing of business units.

The Oracle system sends out work order requests to PatchView+ for technicians to service the business units.

PatchView+ generates the work orders for the technicians.

Once the work orders are completed, PatchView reports back to Oracle.

Oracle issues billing to business units for the labor and for added network connections.
