Selkirk, Scottish Borders
Population 5,784Selkirk is in Scottish Borders. It has a long history as an abbey, a medieval burgh and a shoemaking town. The monks from the abbey abandoned the town and it was also destroyed but re-emerged as a vibrant market town. In recent times it became known for the woollen industry. This industry saw a decline in the 1970s but today both Loch Carron and Andrew Elliot are both present in the town. Other light industries (Cademuir) and service sector activities (Valtra) are also present.
