How to Make Friends
Having friends is lots of fun. There are some things to do if you
14want to make friends. First, you need to meet people. At
25school there are lots of people around you. At recess or lunch,
37talk to the other kids. Tell the kids your name. See if you like to
52do the same things. Remember to take turns. Smile at people.
63If you are fun to be with, other kids will want to be your friend.
78People also want a friend who will listen to them. Be a help to
92your friends if they need you. The best way to find a good
105friend is to be a good friend. What if someone wants you to do
119bad things? That person is not a friend. A real friend will make
132you feel good. Just be yourself and you will make friends who
144like you for the great person you are!

Parent Tips
What is Fluency?
Fluency
refers to a student's speed, smoothness, and ease of oral reading. Fluent
readers read more quickly and smoothly, allowing them to focus on
comprehension. Fluent readers gain more meaning from the text they read.
Because fluency leads to comprehension, fluent readers enjoy reading more than
students who devote all their energy to sounding out words.

Read the story and answer the questions setting RL.2.1
Manuel looked down at all the seashells. His dad said he could choose one to take home with him. Manuel wanted to choose the best seashell to help him remember his vacation. He picked up a spotted one, but it was so tiny he was afraid he would lose it. The brown one he found was probably too big to fit in his suitcase. He put it back too. He found a clamshell, but the clam was still living in it! Finally he saw the perfect seashell. It was white and pointy. It fit just right in his hand. And best of all, when he put it by his ear he could hear the ocean! Manuel found a wonderful souvenir to help him remember this trip.
