Summary

Utilizing funds from the U.S. Department of Education, this project is designed to improve student performance in career and technical education by way of:

Strengthening the connections between secondary and postsecondary education; Restructuring the way stakeholders - high schools, community colleges, universities, business and parents - work together; Increasing state and local accountability standards.

Through the Programs of Study (POS) incorporate all of the critical aspects of CTE: academic standards, CTE skills, a progression from secondary to postsecondary education, and a recognized credential. The term POS was a compromise between using career pathways and model sequence of courses.

• Incorporate secondary and postsecondary education elements;

• Include coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant career and technical content in a coordinated, nonduplicative progression of courses that align secondary and

postsecondary education to adequately prepare students to succeed in postsecondary education;

• May include the opportunity for secondary education students to acquire postsecondary education credits, including through dual or concurrent enrollment; and

• Lead to an industry-recognized postsecondary credential, certificate, associate degree, or baccalaureate degree.

Students who complete a POS are expected to be prepared for either employment or advanced education.

Summary

The TAOEP grant would fund the City Colleges of Chicago Alternative Education Consortium (AEC), a network of ten alternative/optional schools for retrieved dropouts providing degree completion programs in small school and class settings throughout District 299. Olive-Harvey and Truman Middle Colleges are included in this consortium. AEC programs would implement non-traditional activities, adaptive online learning technology/credit recovery, one-on-one tutoring, Upward Bound (TRIO) and job readiness/career planning programs. Additionally the consortium offers a culinary institute, a media arts production studio, a dual credit program with City Colleges' degree and workforce certification programs, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Services Program, and ACT prep classes. Student supports would include mentoring, counseling, free breakfast/Iunch, parenting classes, transportation, juvenile justice interventions, home visits, day-care, after-school programs and clubs.

As an intermediate step towards college transition, students without a high school diploma are offered instruction that will enable them to pass the GED exam.

It provides assistance to students in the completion of the GED examination or alternative high school credit toward graduation; workforce employability skills preparation classes; preparation for employment through school-based and/or work-based learning opportunities and assistance to transition to post-secondary Career and Technical Education programs within one of the 16 nationally recognized career clusters, specifically those identified as high growth sector needs within the geographic area.

These grant funds would be used to plan the creation of a common pathway of articulation for CCC Early Childhood students to the University of Illinois at Chicago. This newly developed program would provide a long awaited link between programs at Chicago Community Colleges and UIC Early Childhood Education programs. This program would offer City Colleges’ graduates increased access to an affordable and local baccalaureate program. Grants funds would cover the cost of faculty participation in state and regional meetings, conferences, and professional development to disseminate program innovations, strategies, and lessons.

Summary

Building Upon Diversity: Creating a Global Curriculum for the Humanities, is a 22-month, interdisciplinary Humanities project designed to increase the understanding of the diverse cultures and immigrant population surrounding the Truman College community. This new project would enhance the humanities curriculum using a digital-based learning platform. Building Upon Diversity has three fundamental objectives: 1) to create an oral history library to be used as a teaching tool to bridge cultures; 2) to train a group of faculty members who will learn how to use the database and how to train other faculty members on using the database; and 3) to use innovative technology tools to create new humanities curriculum accessible to Truman, City Colleges of Chicago, and the greater Chicago area. Grant funds would be used for curriculum consultants, faculty stipends and computer software.

Summary

The Illinois Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) makes it possible for students who qualify to receive

financial assistance to pay for child care. Students must be engaged in a qualifying activity such as work and/or school to be eligible. Students must also meet income and family size guidelines that have been set according to 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The Illinois Child Care Assistance Program is to help fund children between the ages of 2-5 years old attending any of the CCC Child Development Lab Schools located at Daley, Malcolm X, Truman Kennedy-King and Olive-Harvey Colleges’.

Summary

WYCC would participate in the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and WNET New York Public Media promotion of American Graduate Day 2014 premiering live on public media stations Saturday, September 27th from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. (EST). WYCC would also produce programming featuring local community organizations and individuals that are implementing programs that address the issues surrounding the high school dropout rates. WYCC would directly involve 6-7 student interns to work with station producers to create the shows.

The objectives of this project is to produce a series of interstitials entitled the "Stories of Champions" which would: (1) highlight champions who support our children; and (2) help localize the national broadcast as it builds momentum, awareness and a local connection to American Graduate Day.

The funds would be used for pre- and post-production activities (community meetings, refreshments, staff, equipment, local travel and supplies). The grant is a new and one time opportunity.

WYCC would partner with the Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA) to produce footage that highlights artists throughout Illinois. The funds will be used for pre- and post-production activities (i.e. staff, planning meetings/refreshments, marketing materials, equipment and supplies).

WYCC would produce broadcast footage of the Blue Kids Camp rehearsals, the annual Blues Festival· Blues Kids Foundation booth, capture personal interviews with participating youth and Fernando Jones (founder), and broadcast the finale performance at Buddy Guy's Legends.

WYCC would engage 5-6 student interns to assist with the pre- and post-production activities.

individuals in the healthcare industry that have direct contact with patients and patient care. Funding would be focused on hospitals, nursing homes and residential care facilities.

This program would train leadership and staff teams from local hospitals and personal care facilities on how to create and maintain safety policies that would prevent accidents by raising safety awareness to the highest levels throughout every department in their facilities. Approximately 350 individual workers and 10-15 safety team leaders with up to 50% of these being non- English language speakers would participate.

The FY15 Accelerating Opportunity Affiliates Application is a partnership with Washington's State Board of Community and Technical Colleges, the National Council for Workforce Education, and the National College

Transition Network.

This grant is designed for the participation of 90 students in the OHC TDL bridge. Students would enroll in classes that incorporate integrated instruction-i.e., a basic skills instructor in the credit classroom a defined percentage of the time along with a paired supplemental course-to promote higher achievement and readiness for continued studies in the pathway.

Funds would be used for training, materials and conference attendance.

RECOMMENDS that the Board of Trustees approves acceptance of any gifts, grants or other funding which may be forthcoming from these proposals and authorize the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, or Associate Vice Chancellor of Development to serve as authorized representative or official representative of the District in the submission of proposals for funding and to execute all documents for the acceptance of this funding or these gifts and the operation of the funded projects; said acceptance to be subject to the terms and conditions set forth by the grantor, including specified subcontracts and purchases, and said funds not to be expended by the Board for any other purposes.
