Board Meeting April 11, 2013
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The report from the President included information on the National Council of State Board of Nursing Midyear Meeting in March; board members will be attending the NCSBN Long-Term Care Conference; the Board Officer Nomination Committee was named for the elections that will be held at the June 2013 Board Meeting and reported that the Boards and Commissions office has indicated that the 2012 Board appointments should be received soon.
FINANCIAL OFFICER’S REPORT
The Report of the Financial Officer was presented. The report was accepted.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT
The Report of the Executive Director was presented and included information on administrative staff; House Bill 217 requires changes to the Board’s administrative regulation on prescribing standards for controlled substances; 2013 Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators (NLCA) Meeting; 2013 NCSBN Meeting; legal update; Administrative Regulation Information; License, Registration and Credential Statistical Reports; Kentucky Alternative Recovery Effort (KARE) Statistics; Investigation & Discipline Section Report; Sexual Assault Offender Registry; and a Report on Approved Agreed Orders, Consent Decrees, Removal from Probation; revised 2013 meeting calendar and proposed 2014 meeting dates; update on meetings with COT regarding plan and implementation of Information Technology services and announced Sharon Mercer as the 2013 Nurse Excellence Award recipient. Laura Wagner and Eric Velazquez gave a
presentation on the website reconfiguration. The report was accepted.
Approved a motion unanimously that proposed changes be made to the submitted amendment to 201 KAR 20:057.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
ATA College, Practical Nursing Program, Louisville
Accepted the initial report from the Practical Nursing Program.
Directed the approval status of the Practical Nursing Program remain Conditional.
ITT Technical College, Associate Degree Program, Lexington
Accepted the Proposal for the development of an Associate Degree Nursing program.
Directed the proposed Associate Degree program be granted developmental approval status for an admission class no earlier than September 2013, with nursing classes not to start until the quarter beginning December 2013.
Directed that since they do not meet the requirements, students may not start classes until a representative from the Board returns for a site visit and all requirements are met.
Approved a motion unanimously that proposed changes be made to paragraphs 4 and 5 in the recommendations presented to the Board.

The regulation to repeal 201 KAR 20:235 “The prevention of transmission of HIV and HVB by nurses” has been withdrawn.

Approved the KBN Centennial Celebration be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Delphi Center in Louisville. A conference followed by a reception and dinner will be held. The Board Members will be informed as the details become available.
Approved the annual retreat will be held on Thursday, August 22nd and Friday, August 23rd, at the Delphi Center in Louisville.
