Foreword

I am immensely happy in writing this foreword at a time when controversy regarding the scientific nature of astrology, is at its peak. Astrology is based on astronomical data. That astronomical data is studied in the light of the observations made in last thousands and thousands of years, and transformed into Astro-Sutras. Replication of these Astro-Sutras in more than 65 per cent cases has placed these Astro-Sutras at par with scientific formulae.

The Secret of Vargas unfolds the mystery of the Divisional Charts. These Divisional charts go further to prove the scientific nature of astrology. In case one just wants to have a general reading of the chart, the basic Natal Chart may give general information regarding physical health and happiness. The Hora Chart or D-2 chart gives general information regarding wealth and prosperity. Dreshkona or Drekkana or D-3 Chart throws light on the happiness from brothers and sisters and relations through them. Turyansh, or Chaturthamsa D-4 chart represents fortune and happiness from landed property.

To know about future generation like son or daughter or grandchildren and happiness from them, one should study

(4)

(IV)

Saptamamsa Chart or D-7. The status of lineal descendants of a grandfather would enjoy may be studied through this chart. For instance, there must be something special in the chart of Pandit Moti Lai Nehru who gave birth to Jawaharlal Nehru and Vijay Laxmi Pandit. Similarly, ancestors of Queen Elizabeth must have something special in their charts to indicate that their lineal descendant is still occupying the British Throne. It may be noted that relevant factors in these cases predominantly occupy "...", "...", "..." and "..." Saptamansa.

Navamsha or D-9 Chart is one of the most important chart for it indicates; happiness from the spouse and relations through the spouse. Besides, there are several uses of the Navamsha Chart. Dashamamsa or D-10 chart informs about accomplishments in profession and other public and the social fields; from hobby, to commissions and omissions, and to renouncement of all worldly pursuits. Dwadasamsa or D-12 chart indicates quality of financial and emotional parental support and protection—in short parental bliss, in addition to social, economic and financial status of parents and duration and quality of relations with them. Shashtiamsha or D-16 has two specific roles : one relates to overall consideration and the other relates to qualitative planetary effect in a given situation.

All these 16 Vargas add to precision and accuracy in timing of likely and probable events as well as its qualitative effect on the native, his relations, friends, professional relation, including relations with bosses and superiors.

By prescribing these divisional charts, Rishi Parashar has given the secrets of these divisional charts relating to a particular facet of life. Infact, the meaning and purpose of the divisional

(5)

(v)

charts is much more deeper than most of us realise, for every divisional chart gives a microscopic view of a particular facet of life at a given time, if seen in the light of Dasa sequence.

These divisional charts may be studied either in relation to the basic chart or totally independently along with the Dasa sequence. Mr. Krishna Kumar has suggested that the comparative study of positions of house Lord and significator planets in birth and Divisional charts, gives better results. The methodology suggested in this book is certainly workable and I appreciate it. But if birth chart is read along with a study of separate divisional charts by giving 1. Unit of + or - as may be the case, each to the concerned house Lord and the significator planet in Rasi chart, as well as, Lagna lord, concerned house lord and significator in specified divisional chart along with major, sub and sub-sub period lords, it may prove a better way to quantification of qualitative results.

I highly appreciate this unique book on methodical study of divisional charts. Shri Krishna Kumar has usefully utilised his talent in two disciplines astrology and engineering. He is Master of Engineering. He has written several books on astrology and each subsequent book indicates his ever increasing indepth knowledge of astrology for worldly success and spiritual achievements.

I believe that this book shall introduce precision and accuracy in predicting probable events and fascinating vistas and new horizons in predictive astrology. It will prove useful to serious students and practising astrologers both. It shall also enlighten critics of astrology about its scientific nature.

Preface

Why divisional charts? The ancient sages declare

The effects of various houses in the horoscope should be predicted according to divisions of the house and its lord. Without knowing the strength of such lords, one cannot move even a step forward in the direction of Astrology.

Any planet occupying its own sign in divisional charts becomes strong, capable of giving good results to the native, during its main or sub-period.

Divisional charts, as the very name suggests give a finer analysis of horoscope. For marriage, astrologers prefer to study D-9 charts, for children they study D-7 charts and for professionals success they study D-10 charts. Thus, different D-charts deals with different aspects of life.

I am thankful to my readers and lovers of Astrology who showed keen interest in my "..." (Results of six Divisional Charts). This book is more exhaustive dealing with Twenty (20) divisional Charts.

My friends Shri A L Jain, Dr. Surendra Sharma Shastri, Shri Sanjay Shastri, Vinay Kapoor and Jagdish Sethi provided material for this book and helped me in proper classification and

analysis of the various charts. I am grateful to them for their co-operation and support. I owe my sincere thanks to Justice S.N. Kapoor, Shri J.N. Sharma and Dr. Nirmal Jindal who worked as the 'Light House of Astrology' by giving me the tools and techniques for analysis of D-charts.

I am grateful to my teachers and research fellows who helped and assisted me, whenever I got stuck or lost the way.

I acknowledge with thanks the assistance received from Shri Rajesh Samuel, Devendra Jain & Mrs. Sudha Gupta in preparation of the manuscript.

Dr. SB. Goyal and Vinay Gupta did the difficult job of editing and modifying the script. I am grateful to them for their valued support and guidance.

Last, but not the least, "..." whatever has been accomplished is because of Gopal (Lord Krishna or the ruler of senses) and one, who says he has done it is indeed a big liar. Only He and not me has done it. If I did something, it would be full of errors and I owe an apology for the same.

Chapter-1

Divisional Charts—What and Why

1.1 Why Divisional Charts ?

Divisional charts play an important role in deciphering the natal horoscope. Various divisional charts represent different aspects of human life. For example D/9 or Navmansh Chart denotes married life and D/7 or Saptmansha chart indicates happiness on account of children or progeny. The basic concept of Division chart is that a planet becomes highly potent by occupying certain degrees or division (of a sign) for certain aspects of life. Very often the strength thus attained by a planet is called 'Vargbal' or Divisional strength.

1.2 Divisional Strength of a Planet

A planet posited in exalted sign, Mooltrikona, own or friendly sign attains strength. A planet occupying Kendra (cardinal points) or Trikona (Trine) associated with Kendra or Trine lord, associated or aspected by a natural or functional benefic planet in a divisional chart is viewed as a strong planet capable of giving good results to the native, during its main or sub-period.

1.3 What a Varg Kundli or Divisional Chart

1.3.1. Janmkundli or Rashi Chart (D/1) : It indicates health, happiness, body structure, colour, complexion, habits, virtues and weaknesses of the person. It is the basic horoscope with twelve houses. Truly speaking a divisional chart is nothing but expansion of a certain house for microscopic analysis. Indeed it is a misnomer to call Rasi Kundli a divisional chart because here each sign is taken as a whole and remains undivided.

Many astrologers on seeing Natal Chart (Janmkundli) and Moon Chart predict future events without making use of any divisional chart. It is similar to an allopathic doctor who treats a patient on the basis of symptoms observed by him without proper elaborate test reports. His experience and knowledge might help him in selecting the proper treatment. But this does not belittle the role and importance of diagnostic studies like blood test, urine test, X-Ray, Ultrasound, ECG etc. Divisional charts play the role of diagnostic studies for interpreting a particular aspect of life.

1.3.2 Hora Chart-D/2 : Here a sign is divided in two equal parts of 15° each, called Hora. For odd signs, first hora is of Sun and second hora belongs to Moon. Even signs have first hora of Moon and second hora of Sun. Hora chart reveals financial status and prosperity of the native. Some learned astrologers use this chart to study personal appearance, speech and eating habits of the subject. Native or subject means the person whose horoscope is being considered. In Hora chart two royal planets namely Sun and

1.5 Dreshkan Chart (D/3)

(49)

26 Secret of Vargas in different fields of life.

(iv) A planet occupying its exalted sign, mooltrikon sign, own sign or sign of a friendly planet in a divisional chart is considered benefic and thus strong and capable of giving good results.

(v) Besides the sign, the position any planet occupies Square (Kendra) or Trine (Trikon) in a divisional chart makes him strong. A planet placed in the sign of Kendra lord becomes benefic and strong. (vi) Association or aspect of natural benefic planets

(Strong Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus) would also make a planet strong and benefic.

(vii) Contrary to the above, when a planet occupying its debilitated sign, associated or aspected by natural malefic planets like Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Sun or placed in the sign of an enemy planet or occupying an evil house (6, 8, 12th house, counted from Lagna), then the planet would become weak and afflicted. It might not give the desired results. The weak and afflicted planet might cause problems and obstructions in his main or sub-period.

1.30 Important

'D' stands for division and to ascertain the position of a planet say Moon in Cancer 4°5' in D-6, D-5 and D-7 chart, follow the simple rule given by Acharya Mukund Daivagna.

(50)

Divisional Charts-What and Why? 27 Step 1 : Convert planetary position from Rasi to Zodiac degrees. Moon in Cancer 4°5' would mean 94°5'.

Step 2 : Multiply this by division number and divide by 30 say for D-6, this would mean 94°5 x 6 / 30 or 19th part running.

Step 3 : Counting from Aries complete the circle of 12 signs. In other words, 19th part would be 19 - 12 = 7 or Libra. Thus, Moon would occupy the Libra sign in D-6 Chart.

Step 4 : (a) For D-8 Chart 94°5 * 8 + 30 = 25.08 or 26th part running or 26 - 24 = 2 Moon would occupy Taurus in D-8 Chart.

(b) For D-5 Chart : 94°5' x 5 / 30 = 15.68

or 15 part completed and 16 running means 16-12 = 4 or Cancer in D-5 chart Moon would occupy Cancer sign.

(c) For D-7 Chart : 94°5' x 7 / 30 = 21.95.

or 22 - 12 = 10 or Capricorn in D-7 chart Moon will be placed in Capricorn.

Note : This rule applies to all divisions where sign number flows without interruption, it would fail in D-2, D-3, D-4, D-10, D-11 etc. It appears that in ancient times all divisions started with Aries only and progressed in the Zodiac sign order.

Reading a Divisional Chart

2.1 Rules of the game

Before discussing divisional charts individually it would be better to know the rules of the game. The learned readers are already familiar with these rules but freshers might need to know them. So, even at the cost of repetition, these rules, have been compiled at this place to help resolve a dispute regarding strength of a planet.

2.2 Lagnesh of Varga is called Vargesh (Ascendant Lord of Divisional chart is the Lord of Divisional chart)

2.2.1 Ascendant Lord in basic natal or Rasi chart helps the astrologer to place the native in a particular Ascendant group. Ascendant reveals the basic nature, physical and psychological structure of the person. His strengths and weaknesses are also revealed by the ascendant.

2.2.2 Lagna Lord of Varga or the planet ruling ascendant of a divisional chart is called lord of that Divisional chart. For example if the Ascendant in D/7 chart is Libra (sign no. 7). Venus would be termed as D-7 Lord of the native.

2.2.3 Karaka or significator of Varga is called Varg Karak, the placement of Bhava Karaka (significator of house) is

(52)

Reading a Divisional Chart 29 very important in a natal or divisional chart. Each varga kundli or divisional chart is controlled by a significator planet called significator of divisional chart, which plays an important role in that particular field of life of the native.

2.2.4 If Lagnesh, Vargesh and Karak are placed in good houses of a varg kundali, the native would get good results in respect of matters pertaining to that divisional chart. For example an Aries ascendant native, having Libra as ascendant in D/7 chart has Jupiter as its significator. If all three planets namely Mars, the natal lord, Venus D-7 lord and Jupiter the significator of D-7 chart are placed in Angles or trine house in D-7 chart the person would be extremely lucky in case of children. His sons and daughters would bring name and fame to him.

2.2.5 If divisional Lord, natural significator and natal lord occupy a good house (Angle, trine or 2nd and 11th house) in the natal chart, the person would enjoy good results in respect of matters pertaining to that divisional chart.

2.2.6 Some learned astrologers believe that significator planets of natal chart are more important and their position in divisional chart should be studied. Similarly position of Division lord in natal chart (D-l chart) is important for assessing the benefic results of that varga chart.

2.3 Effects of Planets in House of Divisional Chart 2.3.1 While studying a divisional chart, look for placement

of planets in different houses. A planet posited in 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11th house of divisional chart gives auspicious

(53)

30 Secret of Vargas results. A planet in 2nd house gives good results in case of financial matters but bad results for family relations since it is 8th from 7th, the house of wife (or husband for female natives).

2.3.2 Digbali Grahas, or planets acquiring directional strength in a divisional chart become auspicious and strong capable of giving good results.

Planets House of full strength House of zero strength House of half strength 1. Mercury and Jupiter 2. Moon, Venus 3. Saturn 4. Sun, Mars Ascendant First House Fourth House Seventh House Tenth House Seventh House Tenth House First House Fourth House 4 H; 10 H* 1H; 7H 4H; 10H 1H; 7H (* 4H means 4th house, 10H means 10th house etc.)

2.3.3 The planets posited in 3, 6, 8, 12 house or associated with their lords namely 3L, 6L 8L, 12L in a divisional chart are inauspicious and cause bad or evil effects regarding matters of that divisional chart.

2.3.4 Exceptions : Saturn in 8th house, Mars in 6th house and Venus in 12th house always give good results.

2.3.5 6L in 8H or 12H; 8L in 6H or 12H; 12L in 6H or 8H would give good results forming Vipareet Rajyoga or auspicious reverse combination of planets. Such a person after initial setbacks would achieve progress and prosperity in the second half of life.

(54)

Reading a Divisional Chart 31 2.3.6 3, 6, 10, 11 houses are called Upchaya or progress houses. Placement of natal lord, divisional lord or malefic planets i.e. Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or natural functional malefic planets namely 3L, 6L, 8L or 12L in these houses help the native to make progress in life.

2.3.7 The planets posited in good houses of D-chart (divisional chart), would give good results even though they are weak, ill placed or functionally malefic in the natal chart (D-l). Similarly benefic and strong planets of natal chart, if ill placed, debilitated or conjunct with enemy or natural malefic planets in D-chart would not give the desired results during their main or sub-period in matters pertaining to the D-chart.

2.4 Effects of planets in exaltation or own sign in D-chart

2.4.1 A planet occupying his exaltation, mool trikon or own sign in D-chart would give auspicious results to the native. 2.4.2 A planet occupying 6, 8, 12 house in a D-chart, even though exalted, would not give good results because of his ill placement in an evil house.

2.4.3 A planet which is debilitated, combust or sharing house with the enemy planet or occupying an enemy zodiac sign in a D-chart would give bad or poor results.

2.4.5 In D-chart a planet occupying the same sign as he is in the natal chart, would become vargottam (excellent for D-chart). Such a planet would give very good results to the native. Some scholars prefer to consider D-l and D-9 charts only for vargottam.

(55)

32 Secret of Vargas

2.4.6 Jupiter's aspect (or association) with planet in an evil house in a D-chart, reduces, or sometimes even nullifies, the evil effects of weak/ malefic planet.

2.4.7 Except lagna lord (Ascendant lord) of the natal chart (Rashi chart) no other lordship should be taken into account while considering a D-chart.

2.5 D-chart and Dasha System

2.5.1 Though sage Parashar stressed the importance of lordship and placement of Dasa and Antar Dasha Nath (Planetary Lord of main and sub-period) in natal chart to interpret results yet many modern scholars apply these rules successfully to D-charts as well.

2.5.2 If Dasa lord occupies an evil house or is otherwise weak in D-chart, it would cause problems, tension and obstruction in matters related to D-chart.

2.5.3 All canons of delineation of horoscope could be applied to D-chart, as well. Most important is the position of Lords of main period and sub-period in the D-chart. To have good and auspicious results they should not be in 6/8 or 2/12 position from one another.

2.5.4 Remember that main or sub-period lord if debilitated or ill placed in a D-chart would give bad or evil results in matters pertaining to the D-chart.

2.5.5 A planet posited in ascendant of D-chart gives good results in all matters relating to that D-chart. Similarly Varg

(56)

Reading a Divisional Chart 33

lagnesh or Lagna Lord of D-chart always gives benefic results. Varg lagnesh if posited in 8th house of natal or navamansh (D-1 or D-9) chart turns malefic and gives evil results.

2.6 Interpretation of D-60 chart

If a divisional chart is the finer analysis of a horoscope then D-60 (each part of 30 minutes only) is the finest and thus most important for assessing benefic effects of the planet. D-60 Chart Odd Signs 1,3,5,7,9,11 Even Signs 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 Benefic Parts 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 17 to 29, 36, 37, 38, 41, 45, 46, 47 49, 50, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 60 1,3,4,5,7,8,11,12, 14, 15, 16, 20, 23, 24, 25, 32 to 44,47,48, 50, 55,56, 57,58 Malefic 1,2,7,8,9,10,11,12,15, 16,30,31,32,33,34,35, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 48, 51, 52, 55, 59 2,6,9,10,13,17,18.. 19,21, 22, 26 to 31, 45, 46,49, 51 to 54, 59, 60
