Joshua Buckley, a resident of El Sobrante, California, was referred to The Stride Center by the Richmond department of rehabilitation on his 18th birthday. He had just completed high school. Josh embarked on a career track with Stride and quickly realized how much income potential there is in the information and communication technology field (ICT).

Josh had to overcome many personal challenges but was able to gain the confidence he needed through the curriculum Stride had to offer. In addition to taking courses at Stride Josh was offered a paid internship at Reliatech, Stride’s social venture, where computers are refurbished and distributed back into the community at low cost. This internship allowed him to get much of the hands-on experience he needed to launch his career.

The computer skills he gained at Stride allowed him to land a position as a sound and audio technician in a company in San Francisco where he worked for about seven months. With his Stride background and the industry certifications he obtained he landed a job at the Graduate Theological Union where he currently works as a Lead Help Desk / Network Technician. He earns $20.00 per hour and works full time. On a typical day Josh provides technical support to various staff members. As of February 2014 he has worked at GTU for 3 1/2 years. Josh is now 24 years old.

Josh is IC3 certified, CompTiA A+ certified, CompTiA Network+ certified, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician certified. Joshua obtained his CCNA certification in May 2014.

“Stride Center helped me by giving me the knowledge I needed in the areas of technical skills, life skills and professional skills which have been key to my current success. “ Joshua Buckley — Feb 2014.
