Frances King was founded in 1973 and is one of London’s leading English language schools offering a wide range of programmes including:

For Business and Professional people, we offer a range of One-to-One programmes, as well as Intensive Club 8 courses in small classes of maximum 8 students. By adding One-to-One tuition to the Club 8 Intensive course, you can concentrate on a particular skill, area of language or work project. In July and August, we also offer Club 8 Legal English and Club 8 Business English Programmes.

Location

Our One-to-One and Club 8 courses are both held in our school located in the prestigious area of Kensington, directly opposite Gloucester Road underground station, on the Circle, District and Piccadilly lines. The world famous Victoria and Albert, Natural History and Science Museums are just minutes away. Beautiful Kensington Gardens and Kensington Palace are at the end of the street. The area has many shops, bars and restaurants and is close to the famous shopping areas of Knightsbridge and the King’s Road.

During the summer period, we may also use nearby annexes. For students on One-to-One courses, there is a dedicated executive area on the top floor of the building, reached by a lift.

End of Course Certificate

At the end of the course, students receive a Frances King certificate, showing the length of the course and the language level achieved. For company personnel, we can also provide a written progress report on request.

These courses are completely tailor-made – a detailed needs analysis allows you to specify your needs and objectives before the course starts. Your teacher will work closely with you to assess progress and reassess needs and objectives during the course. A One-to-One programme will quickly improve your general or specialised English.

We cater for many professional areas, including sales and marketing, finance, law and management. We help you to prepare for business presentations, negotiations or meetings and develop key communication skills such as telephoning, business correspondence and report writing. We also offer CV, interview and examination preparation.

One-to-Two Programmes

These courses are for two friends, colleagues or family members with the same level of English who wish to study together. Timetable, course length and starting dates are by arrangement.

One-to-One 9 Day Immersion

n Suitable for business people with an urgent

language learning need

n Study over two weekends and the week

inbetween – only one week away from work This course is for busy business and

professional people who have an urgent language learning need, such as preparing for a presentation, a conference, negotiations or meetings abroad but who can only take one week away from work. This course takes place over two weekends and the week inbetween. In addition, lunch is taken with a teacher. Participants should arrive on a Friday and be ready for classes to start on the following Saturday, but the programme can be adapted if necessary to suit the individual. Courses will reflect your specific learning needs and objectives and your professional field.

Location and Facilities

One-to-One courses take place in our dedicated executive area on the top floor of our Kensington school, reached by a lift. We have 8 One-to-One teaching rooms arranged around a student area with the following facilities and services:

laptop connection

n TV, newspapers and magazines n Free refreshments

n Help with planning your free time in London n Social events including dinner with a teacher

Weekends and out of hours

We are able to arrange to-One and One-to-Two lessons at weekends and out of normal school hours both at school and other central London addresses such as a hotel or office.

Needs Analysis

One-to-One courses are completely tailor-made and you will need to complete the online test and assessment before the course starts. You will also be sent a Needs Analysis Form, allowing you to specify your needs and objectives and helping us to select a suitable teacher.

One-to-One Trainers

All Frances King trainers are degree educated and have a teaching qualification, in addition to many years’ experience both in teaching English and in the business and professional world. They are adept at identifying and meeting your language needs. Trainers may also have the London Chamber of Commerce Certificate in teaching English for Business and a degree in a specialist subject, for example in, law, management and marketing.

We also arrange a weekly social event for students taking One-to-One courses – an opportunity to network with other students and teachers. The special social events for those on One-to–One courses include dinner at a London restaurant or pub. Students are also welcome to join the school Activity Programme, which is available to all students studying at Frances King.

Club 8 Professional English

This is an intensive general English course suitable for professional people. You will develop the communication skills needed in today’s international environment. The content of the lessons focuses on reviewing and expanding your various language areas such as grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, writing, speaking and pronunciation, building confidence and fluency through continual practice of the language.

Club 8 Electives

English for Work and Business

Focus on English for international business communication. Classes include language for marketing, management, financial services and human resources as well as spoken English for meetings, negotiations and presentations. There may be visits to companies and financial institutions and developmental workshops.

Social English for Everyday Life

Focus on spoken communication through discussions, role plays, conversations and the presentation of ideas. Depending on the level, classes are based on functional, situational or topical language.

Culture, Arts and Media

Develop fluency with language input related to your cultural and artistic interests, British life, and media with activities in and outside the classroom.

English for the Oil and Gas Industry

Focus on language for management, human resources, engineering, sales and marketing or technical aspects of communication in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Minimum Levels for Electives

Intermediate and above: English for Work and

Business, Culture, Arts and Media, English for the Oil and Gas Industry

Elementary and above: Social English for

Everyday Life. You may change your elective during the programme.

Lunch Club

On super intensive programmes, on two days a week you can enjoy a light lunch in small groups with Frances King staff or other guest native speakers.

Club 8 Combination Programme

Add One-to-One or One-to-Two tuition to the Club 8 Intensive Programme to concentrate on a particular skill, language area or work project. Choose from 2 to 20 individual lessons per week to optimise your learning time in London. One-to-Two lessons are for two friends, colleagues or family members with the same level of English who wish to study together.

Programmes

Business English

Intensive programme focusing on English for international business communication with a choice of electives. The course focuses on language skills for the business world, including telephoning, negotiating, attending meetings and writing reports and email. Also included are presentation skills – you can expect to prepare and give a presentation during the course. We cover business vocabulary for areas such as marketing, finance, management and e-commerce.

Legal English

Intensive programme focusing on the language skills needed for communication in a legal setting and key legal topics with a choice of electives. It is suitable for lawyers. We also aim to expand your legal vocabulary for both criminal and civil law. A visit to the Old Bailey or another court is included when possible.

Financial English and Applied

Financial Trading

Course content - Financial English

The first 8 weeks of the five month programme are preparation for the Diploma course. The aim is to improve English language skills and practise key vocabulary. The topics covered include the following: The Organization of the Financial Industry, Central Banking, Foreign Exchange, Interest Rates, Describing Charts and Graphs, Exchange Rates, Stocks and Shares, Shareholders, Derivatives, Futures, Share Prices, Asset Management, Hedge Funds, Structured Products, Financial Regulation and Supervision and Psychology/Behaviour (NLP and Emotional Intelligence)

Course content – Applied

Financial Trading

The 12 week programme introduces students to Foreign Exchange (FX), Futures, Commodities, Stock Indices and Precious Metal Markets and explains how these markets are affected by fundamental, political, behavioural and macroeconomic influences. The programme also introduces the main concepts of technical analysis and explains how these trading techniques can be used to build robust and profitable trading strategies. It is a practical course in which students will have access to market-leading real-time information and trading systems on our city trading floor in order to execute trades. In addition, the course covers the behavioural aspects of trading - hope, fear, greed, over-confidence and explains how these human emotions affect trading decisions.

n Single and twin rooms in superior homestays and single rooms in executive homestays with a range of meal plans: bed & breakfast, 3 dinner plan (breakfast every day and evening meal 3 times per week), half-board (breakfast and dinner) and 4 dinner plan (breakfast every day and evening meal 4 times per week).
