By Michael P. Maslanka

This excellent book reminds me of Inner Excellence, another book that teaches us what we can learn from sports. The book is broken up into small mini-segments which makes the lessons to be learned digestiable and memorable. Here is a sample: detach from the outcome and be concerned only with the process(stay in the moment);reframe negative thoughts(replace "I'll never get this skill right" with "I can master this skill with continued practice and patience");be professional, especially when you smack up against challenges(do not yell, do not break the rules, do not be rude) and understand that it is a good thing to be uncomfortable(usually it shows that we are learning something new and that can hurt in the short term but pay big dividends long term). Great sections on learning from Buddhism stories and reflections by gold medial winners. I'm 60 and wish I had read a book like this at 20. But, as the expression goes, sometimes wisdom never comes, so it should not be rejected merely because it comes late.

By Francis Salenga

I was hesitant at first to buy this book it's because I am not a sportsman or part of any sports team. What encourages me to buy it is the title itself "The Champion's Mind" by Jim Afremow. I was curious on how champions think and act. Who on earth don't want to be a champion I myself wanted to be one in my own chosen field. Therefore I thought buying it would make me a champ or a winner myself. I was not disappointed because this book is not only for sports lovers it is a great resource for anyone.

Anybody who wanted to develop and improve their mental skills in any field of performance would benefit from it. Dr. Jim Afremow a mental game coach has delivered each chapter very well. The contents are simple and clear to understand. Another thing is that it correlates to my favorite book Maximizing Brain Control : Unleash The Genius In You. I am a mom and a teacher thus I am looking for books that could give me some ideas about learning and developing the mind.

Remember that anyone can be a champion you too can be a winner. This is possible for almost anyone. You can do this by learning to think in a whole new way. You will experience success that you have never experienced before. This book will change your way of thinking. "Maximizing Brain Control" and The Champion's Mind have the similar way of approaching the reader these two books are the best ones that you can have.

he provides great techniques in the book on how to align the ... By Kristi Fitzgerald

I am now on my second time reading this book. The first time I was looking for advice on how to calm my nerves before a big race. Jim explains in the book that it is ok to get that nervous ‘butterflies flying around in your stomach’ feeling before a race. But, the key is learning how to get those butterflies to fly in formation. Lucky for me, he provides great techniques in the book on how to align the butterflies! I found that his advice really helped. I started to calm down before each race. I spent less energy on nervous tension and more on positive thoughts about the task at hand. I also saw my race times improve. :)

I think this book is great for any athlete looking to sharpen their mental game. Whether you are looking for mental preparation before a big event, how to stay determined and strong through recovery, or how to fine tune your thoughts during competition in order to push through pain and secure the win; I’m confident you will find great tips in The Champion’s Mind!
