What’s the NEWS

BuniyaadTasar Silk Reeling Machines were distributed to women reelers from tribal areas at a function organised by the Ministry of Textiles and Central Silk Board

Practice of thigh reeling

 The distribution of the machine is part of total eradication of the age old practice of thigh reeling and to ensure rightful earning to the poor rural and tribal woman reelers in Tasar silk sector.

 The machine developed by Central Silk Technological Research Institute in association with an entrepreneur from Champa in Chhattisgarh will improve the quality and productivity of Tasar silk yarn and reduce the drudgery of women.

 The Buniyad reeling machine will not only rid the woman reelers of the painful practice of thigh reeling but also enhance their income and help them live a dignified life.

 It is planned to eradicate thigh reeling and replace it with Buniyaad reeling machine by end of March 2020.

A mobile application e-cocoon

A mobile application e-cocoon was launched for quality certification in silkworm seed sector. A compendium on Indian silk industry and state sericulture profile was also released on the occasion.

 The mobile app e-cocoon will help quality certification in silk worm sector. The mobile application will be used by the Seed Analysts and Seed Officers nominated under Central Seed Act for system and product certification through real time reporting.

India is the second largest producer of silk after China and the largest consumer of silk. India's silk production capacity is expected to reach about 38,500 tonnes by 2020 from the current level of 32,000 tonnes.

 Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Cremica Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd

Know! about the food park

 The Park is located at Village Singhain Una District of Himachal

Pradesh. This is the first Mega Food Park operationalized in the State of Himachal Pradesh. Hamirpur.

 The Park will give an impetus to the growth of the Food Processing Sector in Himachal Pradesh.

 The facilities being created by the developer at Central Processing Centre (CPC) of this Mega Food Park includeMulti-crop pulping line with bulk aseptic packaging (24 MT/ hour), Frozen storage (1000 MT), Deep Freeze, Dry Warehouse, QC Laboratory and other food processing facilities.

 The Park also has a common administrative building for office and other uses by the entrepreneurs and 3 PPCs at Solan, Mandi, and

Kangra having facilities for primary processing and storage near the farms.

 The Park will also provide direct and indirect employment to 5,000 persons and benefit about 25,000 farmers in the CPC and PPC catchment areas.

 The modern infrastructure for food processing created at the Park will benefit the farmers, growers, processors and consumers of Himachal Pradesh and adjoining areas immensely and prove to be a big boost to the growth of the food processing sector in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Food Processing Industries

 To give a major boost to the food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage at each stage of the supply chain with particular focus on perishables, Ministry of Food Processing Industries is

implementing Mega Food Park Scheme in the country.

 Mega Food Parks create modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along the value chain from farm to market with strong forward and backward linkages through a cluster based approach.

 Common facilities and enabling infrastructure is created at Central Processing Centre and facilities for primary processing and storage is created near the farm in the form of Primary Processing Centers (PPCs) and Collection Centers (CCs).

 Under the Scheme, Government of India provides financial assistance upto Rs. 50.00 Crore per Mega Food Park project.

 The Prime Minister will inaugurate the PETROTECH - 2019 at India Expo Centre, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh on 11th February 2019. Know! about PETROTECH - 2019

 It is considered to be India’s flagship hydrocarbon conference.

 PETROTECH-2019, the 13th International Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition is being organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.

 The three-day mega event, from 10 to 12 February 2019, will showcase the recent market and investor friendly developments in India’s oil and gas sector.

 Over 95 Energy Ministers from partner countries and 7000 delegates from around 70 countries are expected to be part of PETROTECH -2019.

 The PETROTECH-2019 Exhibition will have over 13 country pavilions and around 750 exhibitors from over 40 countries, with exclusive areas on the Make in India and Renewable Energy theme.

 PM has in the past inaugurated the 12 the edition of PETROTECH-2016on 5 December 2016 said that the vision for India’s energy future has four pillars:

 Energy access, Energy efficiency, Energy sustainability &Energy security.

 The ILO Centenary Celebrations in India were inaugurated by Union Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar

 India being a founding member has played an active role in every field of the organization. India has ratified 47 out of 189 ILO conventions

during the century which includes all eight core conventions.

 International Labour Organisation (ILO) is a tripartite organisation where representatives from the government, employers and employees openly debate and create labour standards.

 ILO is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019. As part of the 100th Anniversary, ILO is implementing seven centenary initiatives, which are:

1. The world of work is undergoing a major process of change. In order to understand and to respond effectively to these new challenges, the International Labour Organization has launched a “Future of Work initiative” in order to be able to advance its mandate for social justice. 2. The End to Poverty Centenary Initiative is designed specifically as the

vehicle to take forward the ILO’s work in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

3. The women at work initiative aim to better understand and to address, why progress on delivering on decent work for women has been so slow and what needs to be done towards securing a better future for women at work.

4. The Green Initiative aims to scale up the ILO’s knowledge, policy response and capacity to manage a just transition toward greener economies and a sustainable future.

5. The standards initiative aims to enhance the relevance of international labour standards through a standards review mechanism and to

consolidate tripartite consensus on an authoritative supervisory system. 6. The enterprises initiative aims to establish a platform for ILO

engagement with enterprises which would contribute to their sustainability and to ILO goals.

7. The Governance Initiative aims to complete the reform of the ILO’s governance structures, to undertake the evaluation of the impact of the 2008 Social Justice Declaration, and act on the findings and outcomes of the evaluation.

Know! about Sela Pass

 Sela Pass is a high-altitude mountain pass located on the border between the Tawang and West Kameng Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The pass connects Tawang for rest of India.

 It will be constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

 The announcement of the project was done in the Union Budget 2018 by then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
