Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY Systems

The only credible choice

Built for Business. Ready for the Future. Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers are powered by Intel® Xeon® Processors.

The rapid development of information and communication

technology (ICT) greatly influences the way we live and work.

The world is now linked by networks through which almost everyone

has access to information at anytime and from anywhere.

This continuous development of global networking towards an

“Internet of Things” has significant implications for IT organisations.

Infrastructure must be designed that is scalable and adaptable to

meet demand for ever-increasing volumes of data. According to the

latest studies, the amount of data being transported through worldwide

computer networks will quadruple to 1.3 zettabytes by 2016.

At the same time, IT complexity is on the increase. New server

technologies and form factors (blades and skinless servers,

for example) permit a higher degree of centralisation but they also

pose enormous challenges regarding energy supplies and cooling.

The expenditure for IT administration is also increasing. The result

is that many IT departments are grappling with the need to balance

cost-effectiveness with increasing demand for services.

Perhaps most importantly of all, the server market is volatile.

With some server vendors there is a risk that they could exit the

market, leaving customers with no long-term product support.

Others are driving down price at the expense of quality or innovation.

Selecting the right server

When business requirements change rapidly, organisations need to be able to rely on an IT infrastructure that will guarantee maximum productivity, cost efficiency and agility.

Whether it is a departmental server or a large data centre solution, Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers can meet these requirements for companies of all sizes while providing a cost-effective and adaptable range of services.

Fujitsu builds the complete PRIMERGY server line with quality standards and hardware availability known from mission critical systems with an average unplanned downtime caused due hardware errors of only 40 minutes per year. Built for quality, reliability and business agility, they also offer complete IT flexibility through virtualisation and consolidation. If the reliability of the IT operation is ensured, the performance is the next priority. The Fujitsu PRIMERGY server systems regularly achieve world record and leading results in a wide range of industry-standard benchmarks.

IT is frequently the heart of many business and production procedures. Any IT faults often have an immediate effect on productivity levels. The availability of IT thus has top priority. This also applies when developing new Fujitsu PRIMERGY systems.

As a guarantee of quality, Fujitsu technology combines Japanese innovation and German engineering with a service that is tailor-made in the UK.

Each PRIMERGY system is subjected to stringent and comprehensive quality assurance measures during the development phase. This includes electromagnetic and climate technology tests aimed at ensuring availability even in the most difficult of conditions.

The Fujitsu factory in Augsburg is recognised as the state-of-the-art IT systems factory in Europe, drawing on approximately 20 years of development and production know-how.

The results are robust PRIMERGY servers with an extremely low annual failure rate way below the market average. These low levels match those of high-end UNIX systems meaning the datacentre can expect lower costs due to less unplanned downtime or IT support.

Proven quality

“ Even in the world of gaming you need to have

something that is not a gamble. PRIMERGY

server technology from Fujitsu gives us absolute

security and more performance in handling

daily business. Thanks to the new solution, risks

were significantly reduced, and we are well on

the way to achieving our business objectives

with this technology.”

Director of IT

8 9 PRIMERGY servers have always been at the top in the rankings

for database and ERP benchmarks, such as SAP SD or TPC-E, offering Fujitsu customers much shorter latency times and fast transactions.

Fujitsu has set new standards in energy efficiency in recent years, making an important contribution to the continual reduction of energy and cooling costs. Fujitsu had nine systems in the top 10

most energy-efficient servers in 2012, providing up to 20% more performance per watt than comparable systems from other providers. Fujitsu has been optimising its PRIMERGY servers for virtualisation and cloud environments over several generations. This can also be seen in the “VMmark history” where PRIMERGY servers have dominated the various categories since the middle of 2010. PRIMERGY servers are currently top in six of the nine “total cores” categories.

In addition to high availability levels, top-class IT performance is also reflected in an organisation’s levels of efficiency and productivity. Fujitsu starts to optimise its PRIMERGY systems as early as the development phase using comprehensive quality assurance processes that ensure that an organisation can rely on its IT at all times, even during peak workloads.

Comprehensive benchmarking provides the basis for continuous optimisation, especially after the launch of a new server system. In this space, Fujitsu often sets a new world record whenever a benchmark is run.

Agility

With increased server reliability, greater agility and lower costs, you can turn your

IT into competitive advantage faster with Fujitsu PRIMERGY

Fujitsu understand that delivering quality servers begins with exceptional server design

and the ability to control operating temperature for solution longevity.

Low temperature rates are achieved through intelligent Board-Layout fitting to cooling systems, which utilise controlled air flow through designed air channels, also known as our patented Fujitsu Cool-safe™ technology - a best-in-class cooling technology that

prevents the system overheating by keeping cool air coming in and moving hot air out.

Cool-safe™ airflow design principles are further enhanced by Fujitsu’s

Honeycomb design, running across the complete PRIMERGY family which enables 40% improved ventilation. Our further development of the Cool-safe® technology, called Cool-safe Advanced Thermal

Design enables ambient temperatures of up to 40 °C which leads to additional savings on energy costs for cooling of up to 27 %.
