BURNER SYSTEMS

Litton surface mix burners are available in Standard, Swivel, and Ring configurations. A

burner tip refers to a single burner head. The number of fires on a burner relates to the

number of burner tips present. Jet describes the hole or holes in the top of the tip, through

which the gas is released. A single jet tip has one flame hole, a 6/7N has 13, the 7-jet has

7, the 10/11N has 21 and the Q5 has 55.

All burners feature movable joints where tips are connected to sidearms and where

sidearms are connected to the bed block. This feature allows for varied heat zone width.

All burner tips are constructed of brass (which are chromium plated) or of stainless steel.

The tip, sidearm and entire burner assembly are available in stainless steel. To obtain

stainless steel tips with a burner, include the letters

SS

following the catalog number of the

burner assembly desired. To obtain stainless steel tips and sidearms, include the letters

SS2

following the catalog number. To obtain the entire assembly in stainless steel, include

the letters

SS3

following the catalog number. The Single Jet tip and the Q5 tip are available

only in stainless steel.

The stainless steel Q5 surface mix burner tip was designed to utilize hydrogen and oxygen

to produce a flame capable of melting quartz. A 1" OD quartz test piece, rotating at

approximately 25 rpm, was heated in excess of 2620˚C (measured with an optical

pyrometer). Q5 burners can also be used with other gases.

The Litton Ring Burner was designed for use with stationary or rotating glass. It differs

from other Litton burners in that the burner bed is round and surrounds the glass. Each

burner tip is fix-mounted onto the ring. The burner tips can be swiveled in unison by a

rotational movement of the entire ring.

ROTARY BURNER

Suited to both soft glass and quartz, the motorized Rotary Burner rotates the burner tips so that the

work may remain stationary. The Rotary Burner is cooled by forced air and is chain driven. These

burners have been used in the production of ampules and complex necking operations with excellent

results. They are also ideal for window seals or complex tube assemblies which are too large to

rotate. The Rotary Burner is configured to meet the application needs of the customer.

• Burner Beds can be obtained in three sizes.

• Burner Pedestals come in variable lengths ranging from 50 to 230 millimeters.

• Pedestals can be rigid or articulated at the base and burner tip to facilitate adjustment.

WATER COOLED RING BURNER

This 220˚ Ring Burner is well suited to Fiber Optic Preform manufacture. The burner is water cooled,

uses 8 or 10 10/11N jets, operates on Hydrogen/Oxygen or Natural Gas/Oxygen, and can

accommodate glass from 12 mm to 28 mm in diameter. The jets are mounted in a water cooled ring

in a fixed position. Special customer specified angles of flame contact with the glass can be

accommodated for an additional fee when requested at time of order.
