SUTD STUDENTS

WHY

SUTD, established in collaboration with MIT, has a mission to nurture

technically-grounded leaders and innovators to serve societal needs.

Together with our partnership with Zhejiang University (ZJU), SUTD

students will be able to harness the best of the East and the West.

Learning at SUTD occurs through both small and large group interactions

that encourage collaborative learning and discovery. At SUTD, through the

Art and Science of Design, we apply theoretical knowledge to real-world

problems. SUTD is an active, hands-on place. Getting our hands dirty and

trying something new is often the best way to achieve success and to make

learning come to life.

OUR

Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD)

Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) at SUTD has been conceived to serve the emerging critical needs of a world in transition and a profession evermore engaged with the evolution of business, technology, and socioeconomic institutions worldwide. ASD at SUTD distinguishes itself by equally focusing on the immediate present and future need of architecture and on a traditional course framework that concentrates on technological innovation, design creativity and cultural sensitivity. ASD students will be exposed to real estate valuations, finance, environmental studies, computer-aided design and construction, and information and parametric model building. Students will also be afforded plenty of opportunity to confront global problems such as energy and resources, changing manufacturing norms, structural shifts in demographic and economic frameworks, etc.

Engineering Product Development (EPD)

The curriculum of the EPD pillar prepares students for leadership in the conception, design, implementation, and operation of innovative technology-intensive products, with emphasis on products whose development cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries. The product sectors currently addressed are electronics, energy, machinery, and transportation. The pillar features commitment to educational and research excellence, multidisciplinary interaction, and a focus on product development that includes close engagement with industry.

Engineering Systems and Design (ESD)

Engineering systems entail large, complex systems whose performance and function depend both on their technology and on the socio-economic context within which they operate. Students in the ESD pillar will study the modelling, design, optimisation, and management of large, complex engineering and engineered systems. The ESD curriculum is structured to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be the future system architects and leaders of engineering systems. Students will learn to analyse, design and operate an engineering system with a global perspective, and will have extensive, guided experiences at doing so in a range of contexts. Their

knowledge and skills are applicable across many types of engineering systems Visit ESD’s website: http://esd.sutd.edu.sg/

Information Systems Technology and Design

(ISTD)

The ISTD pillar focuses on "Information Technology" broadly — from computer systems through software engineering to artificial intelligence — with a particular emphasis on how information systems interact with the embedding context: through data analysis and human interfaces, both of which play a major role.

MIT-SUTD Dual Masters’ Degree Programme

A programme is under final negotiation with MIT. In the proposed programme, SUTD students will have the opportunity to apply to MIT for admission to a master’s degree. If admitted, they will receive a scholarship and enroll for a dual master’s degree. The second degree programme would be completed at SUTD upon completion of the master’s at MIT.

Students in this programme are required to complete one year of coursework and projects at MIT before returning to Singapore for another year of intensive research at

SUTD. At the end of the two years, they will graduate with two Masters degrees – one

from MIT and the other from SUTD.

Initially, Masters programmes in the following four areas will be offered:

 System Design and Management

 Civil and Environmental Engineering

 Supply Chain Management Engineering in Manufacturing

 Engineering in Manufacturing

SUTD PhD Programme

We share and support students’ passion for innovation and dedication to breakthrough research that will make a difference to the world. Our PhD Programme has been designed to offer students:

 Interdisciplinary and collaborative research opportunities

 Access to multiple world-class faculty with co-supervision flexibility

 Leading-edge research experience through potential overseas research

attachments at top universities worldwide

 Close research collaborations and exposure to industry through local or overseas

internships

 Participation in a multi-disciplinary design experience

RECRUITING STRATEGY

Internship

SUTD's strong ties with local and international industries provide internship opportunities to bring together campus learning with practical experiences. We offer opportunities for students to work in world-class organizations.

Our 16 weeks internship period is from May to Sep every year. Submission of internship positions starts in Dec.

Tea-Session

The tea-session allows employers to reach out to specific group of

students in a small group setting. Take the opportunity to reach out to our students through this sharing session.

Recruitment Talk

Recruitment talk provides employers with job or internship openings to reach out to the students in a lecture theatre style setting. Employers can make presentation and share with students the exciting careers awaits successful applicants. Networking with students follows.

Industry Networking

A large scale networking session where companies from similar industry can reach out to students. Get a chance to speak to our students and understand the career aspirations of the students. A perfect branding platform for you to share the exciting career opportunities with students.

On Campus Interview

SUTD provides employers with interview rooms to conduct interview on our campus.
