High Resilience and Security
Switches offered by AMS Technologies provide unmatched performance for high-density data center deployments. The datacenter Ethernet switches feature the industry‘s highest density 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching solution and the first with an extensible modular network operating system.
With breakthrough price-performance, they enable 10 Gigabit Ethernet to be deployed everywhere in the data center, which can significantly improve server utilization and consequently ata center power efficiency. The switches come with both front-to-back and back-to-front airflow options for energy efficiency. All SFP+ ports accommodate a full range of 10GbE twinax copper cables and optical 1/10GbE transceivers including CWDM transmission.

A major application of media converters is to make use of optical fiber as the transmission media for extending the reach of interfaces between two locations. Media converters are deployed in pairs, typically between two CO sites or between a CO and CPE location or between two CPE locations. A media converter should be transparent to any protocol transmitted but should have the functionality to regenerate the transmission signal. Media converters can therefore be regarded as demarcation between lAN and SAN.

Media converters can therefore be regarded as demar-cation between lAN and SAN.
The interfaces to the WAN transmission can be carried out externally by using media converters or internally by using singlemode transceivers enabling even CWDM and DWDM wavelengths.
The reach of local area networks (lAN) increases steadily. In the past lANs were limited to a building or a campus area using copper or multimode fiber transmission. Nowadays the clear boundary between lAN and WAN (wide area network) has become blurred. The expansion of lANs takes place by connecting two or more remote lANs.
High-bandwidth networks use fiber links to carry large volumes of mission-critical traffic. Since outages often result in large financial losses carriers and enterprises have used a variety of mechanisms to boost availability, such as SONET rings in the core and MPlS in the access network.
However, a new protection mechanism based on all-optical switching offers a more cost-effective solution for high-speed links.
Protection by optical switching
The new protection technology is based on optical switching modules. Optical signals are routed to one of the fiber links without undergoing any electro-optical conversion. Unlike other technologies, optical switches do not use expensive signal conversion circuitry, greatly reducing the cost, space and power consumption of this solution. For very high port counts intelligent optical switches are used.
Data encryption
The encryption products provided by AMS Technologies safeguard your communication reliably and without loss of quality. The area of application reaches from encryption of point-to-point connections to complex networks used with UMTS or xDSl. The systems are optimised for communication scenarios where PBX devices, router, switches or audio/video systems have to be operated securely between distributed sites.
Fiber monitoring / security
Although fiber optic transmission is generally regarded as the safest way to arry data a certain insecurity is still involved. The main reasons for the use of fiber monitoring are failure prevention and intrusion detection.

Inspection
Clean fiber optic components are a requirement for quality connections between fiber optic equipment. One of the most basic and important procedures for the maintenance of fiber optic systems is to inspect and clean the fiber optic equipment. Any contamination in the fiber connection can cause failure of the component or failure of the whole system. Even microscopic dust particles can cause a variety of problems for optical connections. The inspection is done with the use of fiberscopes in order to view the endface. The fiberscope should provide at least 200x total magnification. Specific adapters are needed to properly inspect the endface of most connector types, for example:
1.25 mm, 2.5 mm or APC connectors.
Connector cleaning
With rapidly growing transmission rates of state of the art fiber optic networks the requirements on cleaning endfaces of connectors becomes more stringent. Even the smallest contamination on the connector‘s endface reduces the overall quality of the connection. Cleaning with alcohol and tissues on a daily basis is time consuming and subjected to failures. The cleaning tools available from AMS Technologies clean the endface with a dedicated microfiber tissue. This material removes all contaminations and secures them. The antistatic concept prevents static load which could bring new contamination after the cleaning. Unlike traditional cleaning concepts this method does not degrade optical return loss.
The conventional way of connector cleaning is conducted by direct connector cleaning with the connector in hand.
1.25 or 2.5 mm Stick Cl eaner s are used to clean connectors in adapters. Their special tissue is designed to take dirt and dust away from the endface.
1.25 or 2,5 mm Pipe Cleaners are designed to clean the sides of ferrules. This guarantees perfect guiding and secures a clean endface.
A new way is to clean the connector through the adapter without disassembling the patch panel.
Card cleaners use a card with 12 cleaning positions, Due to its compact design it fits in every pocket. This tool should be with every fiber optic workplace in the lab, in production and in the field.
Troubleshooting tools
Once network failures occur it is indispensable to have the right means to retrieve them. Although such failures usually manifest themselves in packet losses on higher layers it is beneficial to track them down to their root cause. Troubleshooting tools are commonly compact, portable, rugged and light weight devices. It is recommendable for every assigned service technician to keep those tools with him.
