Translation of the CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY TO: Hitotsubashi University (japan), Zhejiang University and Shanghai International Studies University (China), Université de Sherbrooke and McMaster University (Canada), University of Kansas (USA), Universidade do Vale do Itajaì (Brazil), ECLAC and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Chile), Universidad de la Habana (Cuba), University of Melbourne (Australia) and Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand) – a.y. 2012/13

WHAT

Selection procedure based on qualifications and examinations for the awarding of 20 study grants and 3 places not covered by a grant, for international mobility of students and PhDs for the academic year 2012/2013 to the following destinations:

- Hitotsubashi University (Japan); - Zhejiang University (China);

- Shanghai International Studies University (China) - Université de Sherbrooke (Canada);

- McMaster University (Canada); - University of Kansas (USA);

- Univerisdade do Vale Do Itajaì (Brazil);

- ECLAC (Economic Commission For Latin America And The Caribbean Of The United Nations) (Chile);

- Pontificia Universidad Catòlica de Chile (Chile); - Universidad de la Habana (Cuba);

- University of Melbourne (Australia);

- Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand);

The number of places and grants available, grant’s amount, eligible students, language requirements, approximate mobility period and some general information about the partner University, are listed, for each destination, in the attached forms.

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

Students enrolled in Bachelor or Master (laurea magistrale or specialistica, NOT professional masters) courses and in the Doctoral Schools of the University of Trento.

The eligible category of students for each destination is listed in each specific attached form.

Double degree students can apply only with the approval of both (Trento’s and partner University’s) tutor. Students who have already been awarded with an Erasmus study or placement’s grant can apply only if:

• Periods do not overlap

For STUDENTS who want to attend courses:

study programme (list of courses chosen at the host University); transcript of records;

for Master students: Bachelor’s transcript of records. For STUDENTS who want to do research for thesis:

thesis’ project signed by the tutor; transcript of records;

for Master students: Bachelor’s transcript of records.

For PhDs:

the research project they intend to carry out at the partner University; a letter of reference written in English by the tutor of their Doctoral School;

a self-certification that they hold a university master’s degree along with the grade obtained. All candidates must submit:

1. a statement of purpose in Italian and in the language required for the destination;

2. an internationally recognised certificate (see attachment 2) giving proof of that their knowledge of the foreign language required in the section “Language Requisites” is equivalent to the minimum required level. The exam of the same language and level sustained in the Faculty programme and a High School or University Diploma achieved in the same required language are also valid. consideration;

3. their CV in Italian and in the language required for the destination using the Europass format (see http://www.europass-italia.it/scelta2.asp);

4. any further qualification considered relevant to the evaluation of the candidates in relation to what required by the present Call;

Please note that the application cannot be closed without all the listed attachments. Only the documents attached will be taken into consideration for the final evaluation.

Since no changes are possible after the application closure, please be sure to fill in the form and upload the attachments correctly and in due time.

The application will be completed only after pushing the “SEND” button. The system will then create a form that must be printed out, signed and delivered to the Commission during the selection.

SELECTION

To be admitted to the selection procedure, any candidate not enclosing any of the aforementioned language certificates to his application form, is required to give proof of the adequateness of his level of the required language, sustaining a written and/or oral exam organised by the C.I.A.L. – University of Trento. The date, time and place of the language exams are indicated on each destination’s form. This calendar is binding and students who will miss the test will be automatically excluded from the selection. Information about any change will be sent by email at the address written on the application form.

The shortlisted candidates will be displayed at http://www.unitn.it/ateneo/7947/accordi-bilaterali-bandi-attivi . The Committee is nominated by the Rector of the University of Trento. It will be composed of a minimum of two professors of the University of Trento. The interview may take place in the language required for the destination.

The time of the oral interview will be communicated to candidates by email no later than 3 working days before the interview.

The final ranking list will be displayed at http://www.unitn.it/ateneo/7947/accordi-bilaterali-bandi-attivi within 5 working days after the interview.

The minimum score to be admitted into the ranking list of the eligible candidates is 75 points.

For PhDs and students who won’t have sustained any exam before the selection date, the evaluation will be based on points 2 and 3. The result will then be proportioned to those of the other candidates.

At the end of the evaluation the designated Commission delivers a ranking list based on the sum of the points scored by each candidate in every single component of the afore-mentioned selection procedure.

ACCEPTANCE Study grants are awarded on the basis of the ranking order.

After the selection, all candidates who will be awarded the study grant will receive a notification by email. They will be required to submit a declaration of acceptance within 10 days from notification to be written according to the designated format used by the Ufficio Doppia Laurea e Progetti Internazionali - Double Degree Programmes and International Projects Office

In case a grant holder resigns, his/her place will be offered to the candidate next in the ranking list.

Any other document required for the application in the section notes of each destination form, must be delivered together with the declaration of acceptance.

The selection described in the present Call for applications is only an internal selection. The partner Universities can ask students to pass other language tests and have the ultimate right to decide upon the admittance of the selected candidates. Their decision is final and unchallengeable.

STUDY GRANT

Study grants are subject to the actual participation in the study/research activities and they will be paid in two deferred instalments:

• 2/3 of the total amount within 5 weeks after departure (the date will be displayed on the ticket that grant holders are required to hand to Ufficio Doppia Laurea e Progetti Internazionali - Double Degree Programmes and International Projects Office before departure),

• 1/3 after their return to Italy upon delivery of the transcript of records or a certificate of the host University stating that the research activity had lasted no less than 3 months.

The grant holder intending to resign or to interrupt his stay without good cause will be required to return the money received until then. Failure to return the money will result in the student being excluded from the possibility to discuss his final thesis.

The study grant does not cover for national insurance contributions whatsoever nor it will automatically results in an evaluation element for a career in the legal or economic field.

This English text in a translation intended to facilitate the understanding of the Call’s contents by International students but the only binding version is the Italian one.
