4 4 In the current system of consecutive

qualifications, a Bachelor program with at least 6 and maximum 8 semesters is the first professional qualification. A Master program with at least 2 and a maximum of 4 semesters serves both subject and academic specialization or enhancement. This can consecu-tively succeed directly on completion of one’s Bachelor studies. A graduate program with the objective of further education must not necessarily build up upon the content of the previous undergraduate studies. In this event a year of practical work experience must have been completed prior to admis-sion. The MBA program is a typical example for this.

The transition from Bachelor to Master program is quite difficult in Germany at this time. In the initial planning one had assumed that most of the under-graduates would be starting their career once they had received their degree. For this reason one kept the number of places available in graduate programs (too) low. The result is that currently the universities have very stringent selec-tion procedures.

Prof. Dr. Werner Meißner

President accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg

For years accadis Hochschule has been offering qualified applicants both con-secutive as well as further-education Master programs. We are therefore among the first universities in Hesse to provide a graduate program as a dual course of study.

Our graduate programs have an international focus. Each student group in general does not exceed 15 to 20 students as an academically deman-ding and highly interactive lecture format calls for small groups.

A graduate degree fundamentally entitles the holder to continue working towards a Doctorate. Together with our long-term partner university in the UK, Northumbria University in Newcastle, we offer a joint Doctoral program. The following pages will inform you about our current Master as well as Doctoral programs. Our academic advisors and Head of Studies look forward to talking with you.

Programs and study formats

At a glance

One of the main features of studying towards a graduate versus an under-graduate degree is the strong empha-sis on the level of academic focus. Nevertheless, there are differences to be found herein as well.

Our full-time Master program has the most marked emphasis on scienti-fic work skills in the full-time format. With the module Academic Writing, scientific analysis skills are further

de-veloped. The Master thesis comprises 30 ECTS and is concluded with a defense thereof. The dual and part-time Master of Arts programs also have the Aca-demic Writing module. The difference lies in the fact that the studies are here concluded with a 20 ECTS thesis without a defense. The same goes for our MBA program as here one presu-mes that in the dual or part-time study format the topic chosen will have a stronger practical orientation.

(7)

Practical Relevance

You will find a strong combination of theory and practice in all of our graduate programs. The strongest practical orien-tation can be found in the dual study format or part-time Master of Arts programs. With the help of the practical projects that take place on the job in each trimester, theoretical content from the lectures immediately finds practical application.

In the MBA program the minimum requirement of two years’ relevant professional experience for entry to the program warrant the required practical work skills of the entrants.

In the fourth trimester of the full-time programs the students have the oppor-tunity to complete work experience abroad. In the fifth trimester the curricu-lum foresees a consulting case which addresses a “genuine” topic in a “genui-ne company”.

Internationality

Today business management studies without an international concentration are no longer sensibly viable. Inter- national content is therefore the foun-dation of all the programs at accadis Hochschule. All graduate programs are held in English language.

While students in the full-time program have the opportunity to enroll in a semester abroad, this experience is “simulated” for those students in the dual or part-time program based on the assumption that this experience could only be fulfilled with great difficulty with full-time employment. To this end four modules are held by guest lecturers from Newcastle Business School (NBS).

Organization

A characteristic feature of each study format is the varying scheduling. A trimester in the full-time program is generally planned in such a way that one has contact hours (approx. 12 hours) on three days a week throughout eight weeks. Two additional weeks of the trimester are reserved for a supplemen-tary module which is then organized as a block seminar. This allows for guest lecturers to be incorporated in the trimester.

Dual and part-time students (M.A. and MBA) attend lectures on the first Satur-days of a trimester. This is followed by a block format week (Monday through Saturday) and then a further Saturday. The remaining weekends of the trimes-ter can then be dedicated to individual study. The examination phase begins following 10 weeks of lecture. In this manner you will successfully fulfill the set requirements.

Prof. Dr.

Both transnational reasoning and cul-ture related action in complex scenarios in multinational com-panies are the most exciting fields of activity in International Management. Globally oriented leadership requires an integral approach to the challenges of continual change processes, good network and team structures as well as well-founded problem-solving skills for work in international fields of action. To this end our graduate program Interna-tional Management combines practice related specialist concepts into a genera-list competence profile. This ensures that in their business practice the students will be able deliver cutting edge and competi-tive results. With creativity, systemic thin-king as well flexible applications, we secure an optimal preparation of your career in an international company. ‘One step ahead’ has been our long-standing and successfully applied motto. You will be implementing this in your international career, and we greatly look forward to supporting you in this endeavor.

Your Future Career

All-rounders in International Business manage projects in global companies in every sector and across varying depart-ments. Especially the transnational plan-ning and coordination is particularly challenging. Business management and leadership skills, broad management expertise and creativity – this is what is required of successful graduates.

You already have a clear vision of your future or are currently in the process of exploring your options? The accadis graduate program International Management provides you with the basis for both – international, cross-function and cross-sector. You may enroll directly subsequent to your Bachelor studies.

Program

The program has an international focus and is for all-rounders on their path to becoming a management leader, with a strong practice relevance or parallel employment. The graduate program International Management is laid out over two years with 120 ECTS credits. It can be completed in full-time or in a dual studies format in part-time. It combines an analytic-systemic approach of management with an applied-practical one.

Relevant questions of globalization and the inherent international manage-ment tasks are reproduced in a unique combination of theoretical and practical lecture content.

In order that you are later able to thoroughly satisfy your management responsibilities, the modules in Strate-gy, Marketing and Finance form the core of your studies.

Prof. em. Dr.

Gerhard Trosien

The sports business in a global context has been undergoing radical changes. Lea-ders in sports management must be prepared! Sport talents from around the globe are pushing their way onto sport markets (sport clubs, sport leagues, sport events, sport businesses), which have already been operating at an international level for a long time. These sport talents expect skillful staff to recognize their potential and to foster and promote it. Strategies and skills, being able to adopt an intercultural mentality, understand diversity as a beneficial quality and take up on opportunities for responsible development - all of these factors are what is called for here. Attaining all of these skills is indeed possible, and a sustainable graduate program as this one at accadis, will successfully prepare you for all of these challenges.

I am looking forward to sharing with you my extensive experience from both practice and theory.

Doctoral Programs

in co-operation with Northumbria University Newcastle

In Germany universities of applied science do not have the authority to award doctorates. They are, neverthe-less, permitted to provide doctoral programs in co-operation with other universities. Based thereon, this is something we do together with our long-standing international partner Newcastle Business School. We provide a whole range of postgraduate pro-grams such as the DBA (Doctor of Busi-ness Administration), the DBL (Doctor of Business Leadership) and the PhD. All programs can be completed in part- or full-time. During the two to five years of the program you concentrate on your doctoral thesis. You will be accom-panied by modules on methodology (e.g. Research Methods, Academic Writing, Academic Ethics) and doctoral seminars.

The doctoral thesis is submitted in English and you are jointly supervised by a supervision team made up of one supervisor from accadis Hochschule and the other from Newcastle Business School. You will be graduating with one of the above mentioned postgraduate degree titles which permit you to use the doctorate title in Germany.

Research topics are preferentially chosen from the following topics: Sports Management, Social Media/Internet, Marketing or Business Ethics.

Please contact us by email if this is of interest to you and you wish to become a Doctoral candidate - Prof. Dr. Florian Pfeffel,

Studieren in Bad Homburg

Many of our students use the oppor-tunity of a semester abroad in order to perfect their language skills and to gain firsthand experience living and studying in a foreign culture. The intercultural skills which are thus gained are highly sought after by employers and provide our stu-dents with a further advantage when applying for a new position.

accadis Hochschule Bad Homburg provides full-time graduate students with the occasion to spend a semester abroad at a partner university or at other renowned universities.

It is often not possible for students in dual or part-time format programs to optimize their studies with an international dimension, as their commitments to their employer do not allow for them to spend a semester abroad. To overcome this drawback, we bring the semester abroad to Bad Homburg for these students. Four modules are held by visiting professors from our partner university in Great Britain. The result is much more than just experiencing a lecture in the English language. Interna-tional guest lecturers open the door to a genuine intercultural experience!

Newcastle Business School has had a successful partner-ship with accadis since 1992, in provi-ding first class teaching on excel-lent programmes. The partnership has gone from strength to strength, with accadis sending top students each year to study at our Business School on a number of leading undergraduate and Masters programmes. The reason behind the success of our relationship is simply excellence.

At Newcastle Business School our phi-losophy is to put theory into practice so we can ensure that all of our students including those from accadis benefit by becoming independent and lifelong learners. accadis students have con-stantly performed well and it is evident that they have been educated with an environment that encourages the development of the skills and compe-tences essential in life long learning.

The result from our partnership? Out-standing. The majority of students have gone on to achieve 1st and 2nd class honours degrees and winning best stu-dent awards and commendations for performance. Furthermore, we are ho-ping that our future collaboration will develop the skills of our students even further and look forward to accadis joining our international network.

I consciously chose a graduate pro-gram at accadis Hochschule as the newly acquired theoretical knowledge can immediately be adopted to topics involved in my daily job. The combina-tion of small groups and an internatio-nal focus provided by bilingual lectures is something that had me convinced from the beginning and supported me in my profession. During my academic training I was able to apply many helpful methods which I acquired in lectures to my duties in my job. I definitely would choose this study format again.

I chose to do my Master degree at accadis Hochschule as the program allowed me to continue working full-time while studying in parallel. Reasons such as personal support and supervision along with a strong practical orientation of the lectures are something that already had me fully convinced during my pre-vious undergraduate studies at accadis Hochschule. The combination of practice concentration and reconcilability with my current occupation were not just empty promises but were flawlessly put into action. It was of great importance for me to also have a strong practice orientation during my studies. accadis Hochschule in its program provides very good opportunities to combine the theory one has learned in the lectures with practical experience. Corporate guest lectures or professionally supervised work-based projects are a few very good examples of this.
