Finland's preliminary population figure 5,484,308 at the end

of September

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,484,308 at the end

of September. During January to September Finland’s population grew by 12,560 persons. The

reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants

was 9,440 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population increase, or excess of births to

deaths, was only 3,120 persons.

Population increase by month 2012–2015*

According to the preliminary statistics for January to September, altogether 20,770 persons immigrated

to Finland from abroad and 11,330 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 3,800

lower and the number of emigrants 430 lower than in the previous year. In all, 5,810 of the immigrants

and 7,880 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.

corresponding period in 2014. The number of deaths was 38,820, which is 220 lower than one year earlier.
