Being an entrepreneur is part of the American Dream. We’d venture to say that ALL businesses started at one point when one person had an idea and acted on it! And it continues on yet today!
Do you have something you’ve been making and selling with your “personal tools”? Are you storing product (like Mary Kay) in your home? Are you renting an outbuilding for others to store their personal property in? It’s amazing what can be thought of to increase income.
Be sure to tell us! There’s nothing worse than losing your “invention” to fire or wind or theft or… and finding out that there’s no coverage since it is business.
Your American Dream shouldn’t die because of a lack of insurance. Call us

We’ve said it before, but we’re going to say it again – you are responsible for calling our office when you buy a vehicle, sell a vehicle, get a loan, buy a property, refinance your home or rental dwelling, move, have teenagers who have obtained their driver’s license, bought a boat, tractor, changed your name, paid off your loan or mortgage, added anything to your vehicle, pickup, tractor, or motorcycle that wasn’t on there when it was manufactured, etc.
Car dealers do not usually call us (even if they tell you they will). Mortgage companies do not usually notify us when you refinance or pay it off. If you are set up in an escrow and you refinance there’s a strong possibility that your billing will not be paid and your policy will cancel. Not having coverage when an accident happens because of a lack of communication is heartbreaking for you and us. Thanks in advance for taking a more active role concerning your insurance.
That insurance companies are insured?
That insurance companies are
monitored by the state?
That insurance companies are rated?
A.M. Best is - an issuer of financial strength ratings of insurers, reinsurers, captives and other risk-bearing entities, and a publisher of in-depth reports on industry segments and key topics.
A.M. Best's Credit Rating (BCR) is a forward-looking independent and objective opinion regarding an insurer's relative creditworthiness. The opinion represents a comprehensive analysis consisting of an evaluation of balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile.
Here at BIA we watch and monitor the ratings given to the companies that we represent. We want to make sure that we are providing insurance for you, our customer, with companies that are financially stable and solid.
Our major property and casualty company ratings are as follows:
Auto–Owners / Property-Owners Insurance A++ State Auto Mutual A-
Indiana Farmers Mutual A Buckeye State Mutual B Progressive Insurance A+
If one of our companies is added to the A.M. Best “watch list” and has a decrease in their rating, we too become more “watchful”. This is the case with the Buckeye State Mutual Insurance Company.
A.M. Best has reported that Buckeye has had significant operating losses in recent years. Over the previous five years they incurred widespread storm losses in the Midwest, especially in Nebraska.
A.M. Best also reports that Buckeye is
reducing its exposure (primarily in Nebraska), has undertaken a new rating platform for automobile and is implementing bi-peril rating of their property risks.
A.M. Best reports that the outlook for Buckeye is stable.
Here at Brewster Insurance we feel that Buckeye State Mutual is a good company. They have paid their claims fairly. They continue to provide great service to us and we continue to pass that on to you. Several of us here in the agency have our personal insurance with Buckeye and do not have plans to move it away from them.
However, we promise to continue to watch this situation and do whatever may be necessary in the future to protect you, our insured.
