GENERAL INFORMATION NOTE

1. VENUE

The IAUTA Conference on “International Cooperation & U3A” will be held in Toulouse, FRANCE from 2nd to 4th June 2014. The meeting will take place at:

TOULOUSE – FRANCE

Toulouse is rich in cultural and heritage resources, contains several national monuments and is rightly regarded as a destination that offers tourists a wide variety of attractions to meet all their needs and across all environments. The activities Toulouse Metropolitan offers are suitable for all age groups and include art, culture, adventure and shopping.

2. TRANSFER ARRANGEMENT AND AIRPORT MEETING SERVICE

Public Bus Transportation is available in Toulouse Blagnac Airport to downtown (5 €) It will take about 20 minutes from the airport to reach city hotels, which are all located in the centre of the city.

3. PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The climate is agreeable throughout June with an average temperature of 24ºC in Toulouse.

Electric power is supplied at 220-240 volts, 50 cycles A.C. Outlets in France generally accept European plug:

Background Note

Cultural and heritage are unique and fragile. Therefore, it is fundamental that University of Third Age stakeholders develop these heritage while protecting and preserving them for the long-term. The extraordinary growth in worldwide senior population has fundamental implications: while U3A can be a vehicle for both education and culture.

Awareness of education and cultural exchange and cooperation is growing within the University of Third Age world development. The personal compulsion to visit each other is highly influenced by their specific knowledge or previous experience of similar places, as much as by the messages they have absorbed from friends and relatives, from the media, or through travel promotions. U3A Communication adds value by building an understanding and emotional attachment.

Visiting U3A can be an intrinsic part of a trip and a major motivator for selecting a destination. Friends from other U3A will be often the best of a country and can constitute a gateway to a large knowledge of a country. U3A experiences that were once limited to a relatively small number of people are now within reach of millions. One of the pillars of U3A international cooperation has been mankind's inherent desire to see and learn about the cultural identity of different parts of the world.

The IAUTA International Conference on “International Cooperation and U3A” co-organized by the Toulouse University U3A and IAUTA, will bring together representatives of IAUTA Member of U3A from Americas, Asia and Pacific, Africa and Indian Ocean, Europe and Middle East. This event will be a forum for public authorities, experts and practitioners to discuss and review opportunities and challenges of international exchange between seniors. The aim of the conference is to showcase the education and cultural richness of U3A all over the world by presenting case studies and country experiences on successful
