A Note of Thanks

Thank you so much for the invitation and opportunity to celebrate the 9/11 Memorial in your beautiful parish.

Thank you for your generosity and your hos- pitality. God bless you.

Auxiliary Bishop Greg Studerus Archdiocese of Newark

It Is Better to Enter into Life

Today’s gospel reminds us of the seriousness of our mortal life and its consequences. “Gehenna,”

“unquenchable fire,” “thrown into the sea,” “eye plucked out,” do not fit our comtemporary culture’s theme of eve- rything being “ok”. These indications of devils, hell, and eternal punishment challenge our society’s way of seeing reality. Our culture has no place for life after death.

In this gospel, we are told that sin is serious business and not to be taken lightly. All human beings understand and talk about right and wrong, about good and evil. This is part of our human dignity and demonstrates the strength of our reason.

But to acknowledge SIN is to explore a greater depth to wrong and to evil and to an explicit relationship with God and a voluntary turning away from Him. Only someone who believes in God can truly talk about sin.

Without belief in God and life after death our humani- ty is diminished. For the simply virtuous person, as well as the wrong-doer, life ends at death. Once God and a more lasting reality is introduced, everything chang- es. The good we do, the merits we acquire, will allow us to flourish permanently in the Kingdom. Unrepented mortal sin will block that. Unrepented sin changes every- thing.

The challenge for us is to love God and desire the Kingdom so much that we will value the truth that who we are and what we do does not end.

Please Pray for the Sick and Recently Deceased

Dear Father of love and mercy, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need: Christina Patlen, Maureen Passarella, Jim Maloy, Angel & Hailie Ziemba, Dave Murphy,

Bernadette Jaros, Fr. Dan Kelly, Silvio Peroni, Barbara Kohan and Marienna Silva.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who gave of their time, talent and treasure to make our 2021 Annual Parish Picnic such a success. Thank God for the incredible weather; it could not have been a better day!

Thank you to the members of the Picnic Committee and the wonderful people they recruited to work in the kitchen, the food tent, the Tricky Tray table, the dessert table, the 50/50 raffle table and the activities for the children and youth. Thank you to all of our bakers who provided us with an amazing assortment of cookies, cupcakes, breads and cakes for the table. Thank you to those who donated Tricky Tray baskets or donations in- cluding a $100 gift certificate to the Grass- hopper Restaurant and to Corrado’s for their donation of 2 baskets.

Special thanks for the delicious zeppoli’s that were made fresh to order.

Thank you to everyone who attended the picnic and those who supported the parish by purchasing the food tickets even though they could not be present. It was so good to see and spend time with so many that we haven’t seen for a long time now.
