WPS Flexible Learning Grid – Year 5 Term 3, Week 7
At Werribee Primary School we understand that every family is different and every family has their own routines, so our home learning planning is structured in such a way that parents/carers/families have flexibility to adjust their child/children’s learning from day to day. Schedules are provided as a timetable/guide to assist you in managing your day. Students are free to contact classroom teachers on Xuno or Class Dojo if they have any questions regarding their learning tasks. Parents can also contact teachers about Learning Tasks through either Class Dojo or Xuno Messages. Teachers' responses will be during working hours.

Monday:
Learning Focus: Translations, Reflections and Rotations
"Rotation" means turning around a center:
The distance from the center to any point on the shape stays the same.
Every point makes a circle around the center:
“Reflections” are everywhere ... in mirrors, glass, and here in a lake.... what do you notice ?
Every point is the same distance from the central line!
... and ...
The reflection is the same size as the original image
Read the directions given for the Lion King script - The opening scene right before any character talks
(dialogue). Notice how these directions direct the animators to develop the scene.
Now watch the sceneCLICK HERE Task:
Last week you wrote the beginning of your playscript where you mentioned the characters and introduced the first scene. BEFORE any dialogue (characters talking) began.
Now that you have seen one demonstrated to you. Edit yours to ensure that there is enough STAGE direction BEFORE any of your characters begin to speak.
Use the parentheses { --- } when describing
elements of your stage - we want you to really use the example given to you above.
The central line is called the Mirror Line …
In Geometry, "Translation"
simply means Moving ...
Without rotating, resizing or anything else, just moving.
To Translate a shape every point of the shape must move:
1. the same distance 2. in the same direction.
Task:
Complete the worksheets found in your additional resources.
Tuesday:
Learning Focus: Reading and Comprehending scripts.

She used a specific word to describe this - what does it mean?
2. Who did John write the script ‘Desperate Falls’
with? Why didn’t he imagine that anything would come of it?
3. What did the presenters compare the movie to being on? Why do you think this could be an accurate depiction of the movie?
4. What genre of movie was Desperate Falls?
5. How did Mandy feel about being interviewed by Nadia and Karl? Why do you think this is so?
EXTENSION: My Literacy / My Spelling
Tuesday:
Learning Focus: Script Writing
Today we are going to continue our draft of our own script. When we write our script we need to ensure we include all of the features of a good script.
REMEMBER: An actor should be able to pick up your script and know exactly what to say and how to say it.
Larger copy found in your resources.
For your script you have already included: Title, listed characters, first scene included with a synopsis (introduction to set the scene).
Today we would like you to continue your script.
Remember to include:
- Dialogue - Stage directions - Character directions
You can use the Script Writing template to help you with your draft. (see additional resources).
Tuesday:
Learning Focus: Plotting coordinates on a Cartesian Plane
Point (6,4) is - 6 units across (in the x direction), and 4 units up (in the y direction)
So (6,4) means:
Go along 6 and then go up 4 then "plot the dot".
Task: Complete the worksheet found in your additional resources.
EXTENSION: Complete the ‘Plotting Coordinates’ task assigned Maths Online.

● Try designing some new clothes. You might be able to draw on an old T-shirt, make a costume out of scrap / recyclable materials for book week on Friday.

Learning To Be: Literacy Goal Book
Learning Focus: Creating a Literacy Goal book on Book Creator
Task: For the rest of this year we are going to have a strong focus on our learning goals. It is important that we set personal goals and also work with our teacher to develop achievable and challenging goals. Setting goals helps improve our focus and motivation, which helps us become better learners!
Today you are going to use the ‘Book Creator’ app to start a new book called ‘Name’s Literacy Goals’. (Don’t worry: We have some very exciting Maths goal books happening once we return to school)
Inside your Literacy Goal book, you will create pages dedicated to your Reading Goals and your Writing Goals.
To begin with, you will need to make the following pages:
1. Front Cover “Name’s Literacy Goals’ (Feel free to add a photo of you and decorate this page!) 2. Writing Goal:
26/8/21 My Writing goal is to….
I can achieve this by....
3. Reading Goal:
26/8/21 My Reading goal is to…
I can achieve this by...
If you are unsure of your current Reading or Writing goal, this is a great time to send your teacher a message to ask for some assistance!
As you start to practice your goal, you will take photos as evidence to add to your book. As you achieve your goals, you will add more pages with new goals. Today we are just setting up our digital goal book. Here is an example of a student’s Literacy Goal Book:
