Fraglia Vela Riva wishes to propose its candidature to host the 2013 IODA World Championship. Fraglia Vela Riva advises that in 2000 and 2008 it hosted the IODA European Championship. ORgANISINg CLub / AuTHORITy

The Championship would be organised by Fraglia Vela Riva in conjunction with the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), the International Optimist Association (IODA) and the Italian Optimist Association (AICO).

Immense and verdant valleys, fascinating mountain peaks peeping through the clouds dotted across the deep blue sky; springs of crystal clear water running together to form streams, rivers and lakes of all sizes.

All this and much more besides can be found in northern Italy alpine region of Trentino. A land well worth visit-ing above all for its natural beauty, its areas of untouched splendour, parts of which enjoy the status of Nature Parks rich in rare flora and fauna.

Nearly ten per cent of the lakes in the Alps are in Trentino, here 297 expanses of water mainly of glacial origin (a total area of 35 square kilometres) dot the lowlands, highlands, mountains, forests and pastures. The largest and most well known of these is Lake Garda, a paradise for lovers of sailing and windsurfing thanks to its particular and consistent wind known locally as “Ora”, this was praised by Goethe in his Journey in Italy of 1786.

Located in a splendid gulf protected by Monte Brione In the waters where only sailing crafts are permitted, Riva dominates all the upper Garda area. It is the most important commercial centre of the north-western part of the lake and the natural transit point for all the tourists who arrive at Lake Garda from the Brenner Pass. It is equipped with a practical, modern conference centre and a wide range of accommodation facilities and it provides a full calendar of cultural activities and events throughout the year.

The Sailing Club is placed in the historic town centre of Riva, in front of the historical “Canale della Rocca” and the 13th century Fortress. The inauguration of the Sailing Club as sport and athletic centre is dated June 1934.

The Sailing Club is opened all the year long, with different work time if summer or winter season. The most important activity of the club is the organization of national and international events.

The official organizing committee (OC) is composed by the Fraglia Vela Riva President Mr. Mauro Stanga together with his staff of 30 people.

These persons will work in developing, coordinating and managing activities for the event at the venue and will assist the executive in managing the day to day work.

RACE MANAgEMENT

Necessary water craft will be directed to operate and ensure the integrity of the race effort as outlined in the ISAF World Championship Manual. Suitable water facilities will be provided for all race officers and their teams, as well as coach/team leader boats, media representatives, sponsors and spectator boats. Race course support craft will be designated for use by race managers. The local Fire/Rescue Department of Riva del Garda will continually cooperate in safety and rescue. Competent boat operators as well as mark and tackle layers are available and eager to begin defining the logistics for the regatta race course and experienced individuals from previous large regattas (Eurolymp regattas and World Championship of several Isaf classes are ready, willing and available to help. Competent individuals who understand the need for accurate, quick response and who are familiar with leading edge technology will manage scoring and results. Computer application will be the tool used to move data ex-pediently from the race course to Notice Board and the event web site. Instantaneous results and the virtual race reporting will be featured at the Internet site, as it is already going on during major events organized by the FVR. TRAVEL

Riva del Garda and Torbole are only one hour away from the International Verona Airport www.aeroportoverona. it (arrival towns either VERONA or BRESCIA. Both Airports are served by low cost companies).

A shuttle bus services four times a day will be provid-ed from both destinations, Verona Catullo Airport or Brescia Montichiari Dannunzio Airport.

MEDIA

A particular attention will be given to the Media Cov-erage. The press officer will work in close cooperation with national and international televisions, websites and magazines providing them with daily press releases and footage.

Journalist and photographers coming to the event will be provided with support boats to follow the races and a press room with access to the web. A service of live race will be available on the Championship website.
