Scouting Northern Iowa

The Panthers are 9-9 overall and 3-2 in the Missouri

Valley Conference. Wins this season have come

against UC Davis, Creighton, Cincinnati, Butler,

Alabama, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois,

Evansville and Bradley. Losses have come against

Baylor, No. 12 Colorado State, No. 10 Kentucky,

No. 8 USC, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa State, Western

Kentucky, Indiana State and Illinois State. As a

team, UNI is hitting .179, while opponents are

hitting .204. They are led by Kayla Haneline who

is averaging 3.15 kills and 1.15 blocks per set. The

Panthers are led by head coach Bobbi Petersen.

Series History vs. the Panthers

UNI leads the overall series with the Shockers

51-13-1. The Panthers also lead the series in Cedar

Falls 23-7. WSU head coach Chris Lamb is 12-24

overall against the Panthers and 7-11 in Cedar

Falls. UNI has won 14 of the last 16 in the series.

Last Meeting vs. UNI

The last meeting between the two teams was Nov.

28, 2014, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in the semifinals

of the MVC Tournament. The Panthers won 3-1

by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-18.

MaryAshton Floyd led the Shockers with 17 kills,

while Emily Hiebert had 39 assists and Dani

Mostrom had 28 digs.

Scouting Drake

The Bulldogs are 12-10 overall and 3-2 in the

Missouri Valley Conference. Wins this season

have come against DePaul, SIUE, Western Illinois,

Akron, South Dakota State, Omaha, Jacksonville

State, Gardner-Webb twice, Evansville, Loyola

and Indiana State. Losses have come against

UCF, North Dakota twice, Green Bay, South

Dakota, Western Illinois, Coastal Carolina, Iowa,

Southern Illinois and Illinois State. As a team, DU is

hitting .178, while opponents are hitting .197. They

are led by Makena Schoene who is averaging 3.16

kills per set. The Bulldogs are led by head coach

Darrin McBroom.

Series History vs. the Bulldogs

Wichita State leads the overall series with DU

45-17. WSU also leads the overall series in Des

Moines 20-8. WSU head coach Chris Lamb is

29-1 overall against the Bulldogs and 14-1 in

Des Moines. The Shockers have won 29-straight

against the Bulldogs.

Last Meeting vs. DU

The last meeting between the two teams was Oct. 31, 2014, in Des Moines,

Iowa. The Shockers won 3-1 by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 26-28 and 25-19.

Mary Ashton Floyd and Abbie Lehman each had 14 kills, while Emily Hiebert

had 39 assists and Dani Mostrom had 29 digs.

Last Time Out

The Shockers defeated Evansville 3-0 on Monday night in Evansville. Abbie

Lehman led the Shockers with 10 kills, while Emily Hiebert had 33 assists

and Dani Mostrom had 12 digs.

Shocks in the NCAA Stats

Wichita State is ranked in the top-75 nationally in several statistical categories

as of Oct. 5. WSU is 41st in assists per set, 56th in hitting percentage, 39th

in assists, 55th in digs, 43rd in kills, 56th in digs per set, and 51st in kills

per set. Individually, Emily Hiebert is 22nd in assists and 40th in assists per

set. Abbie Lehman is 38th in blocks and 24th in hitting percentage and Dani

Mostrom is 69th in digs.

WSU Ranked 16th in Attendance

Wichita State is ranked 16th nationally in average attendance. The Shockers

are averaging 2,153 fans per match, while national leader Nebraska is

averaging 8,137 fans per match.

Shocks in the RPI

Wichita State is 64th in the first official RPI release of the season. WSU is

2-4 against the top-50 and 3-6 against the top-100. Wins include Kentucky

(18), Marquette (25) and Illinois State (77). UNI is 76th and Drake is 176.

Fayad Named MVC Freshman of the Week

Wichita State volleyball student-athlete Shimen Fayad has been named the

Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the week of Sept.

28-Oct. 4.

Fayad, a freshman outside hitter from Victoria, British Columbia, led the

Shockers last week by averaging 5.00 kills and 1.25 digs per set.

Fayad had a career-high 20 kills, while hitting .261 on the left side in the

four-set loss to Missouri State on Friday. She also added five digs in the match.

Fayad had just three kills in the first set, but had four in the second, five in

the third and eight in the fourth set.

She is the first Shocker freshman to have 20 or more kills in a match since

Lindsey Eckenrode had 22 at UNI in 2006.

20 for the Freshman

Freshman outside hitter Shimen Fayad collected a career-high 20 kills on

Friday against Missouri State. She is the first freshman to have 20 or more

kills in a match since Lindsey Eckenrode had 22 at Northern Iowa on Oct.

21, 2006.

Lehman Dominating

Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman has collected double-digit kills in

11 of her last 12 matches. In those 12 matches, she is averaging 2.98 kills

and 1.26 blocks per set, while hitting .432.

Blocking Improves

Wichita State’s blocking has improved over the last nine matches. In those

nine matches, the Shockers are averaging 2.53 blocks per set including a

season-high 17 at Marquette on Sept. 18.

Hiebert’s Double-Doubles

Sophomore setter Emily Hiebert had her streak of six-straight

double-doubles snapped on Monday at Evansville. She leads the Shockers with 10

this season and now has 20 in her career, which ranks tied for 22nd in the

Shocker career record books.

Moving on Up

Two Shockers continue to move up the career records list. Sophomore setter

Emily Hiebert is now 10th in the Shocker record books in career assists with

1,855. Junior libero Dani Mostrom is now eighth in the Shocker record books

in career digs with 1,259.

Reilly Named to All-Tournament Team

Wichita State volleyball student-athlete Katie Reilly has been named to the

all-tournament team at the Marquette Invitational.

Reilly, a senior right-side hitter from Cypress, Texas, led the Shockers to a

2-1 record at the tournament with wins over Marquette and Albany.

She averaged 3.31 kills, 1.54 digs and 1.08 blocks per set, while hitting .356.

She totaled double-digit kills in all three matches and had a career-high 20

kills on Friday night against Marquette.

Three Named to Shocker Volleyball Classic All-Tourney Team

Three Shockers earned all-tournament team honors over the weekend at

the Shocker Volleyball Classic. Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman

averaged 2.72 kills, 0.22 aces, 0.50 digs and 0.72 blocks per set and hit .506

in five tournament matches. Senior right side hitter Katie Reilly averaged 3.06

and hit .386, while sophomore setter Emily Hiebert

averaged 1.11 kills, 10.78 assists, 0.33 aces, 2.06

digs and 0.56 blocks per set while hitting .400.

Win Over No. 21 Kentucky

Wichita State earned a thrilling five-set win over

No. 21 Kentucky on Sept. 11. The Shockers trailed

9-4 in the fifth set and used a 6-1 run highlighted

by two service aces from Emily Hiebert to tie the

score at 10. A Jody Larson service ace gave the

Shockers a 12-11 lead and WSU went on to win

the set 15-12. It was the first win over a ranked

team for the Shockers since 2012 when they

defeated No. 20 Kansas to advance to the NCAA

Regional Semifinals.

Home Opener

Wichita State opened up the home portion of

the schedule on Thurs., Sept. 10 against South

Dakota State. WSU is now 24-15-1 in home

openers overall and 13-3 in home openers under

head coach Chris Lamb. The three losses were

in 2001, 2004 and 2014.

Hiebert Named to All-Tournament Team

Sophomore setter Emily Hiebert earned

all-tournament team honors at the Texas A&M

Invitational. She averaged 0.91 kills, 9.73 assists,

0.55 service aces, 2.27 digs and 0.27 blocks per

set, while hitting .310. In the five-set loss to New

Mexico State, she had a double-double with 52

assists and 17 digs and tied her career-high with

four service aces.

Lehman and Mostrom Named to Hawaii

All-Tourney Team

Two Wichita State volleyball student-athletes

were named to the Chevron Rainbow Wahine

Invitational all-tournament team. Sophomore

middle blocker Abbie Lehman and junior libero

Dani Mostrom were both named to the team and

led the Shockers to a 2-1 record.

Lehman, from Newton, Kan., averaged 3.90 kills

and 1.60 blocks per set, while hitting .515 in the

three matches. She had a career-high 17 kills on

Aug. 29 against No. 18 Hawaii.

Mostrom, from Springfield, Mo., averaged 5.40

digs and 0.90 assists per set in the three matches.

She totaled double-digit digs in every match of

the tournament.

Season Openers

With the win over Oregon State, Wichita State is

now19-19-2 in season openers overall and 10-6

in season openers under head coach Chris Lamb.

Valley Announces Extension With ESPN

ESPN and the Missouri Valley Conference have

announced a 10-year extension to their current

media rights agreement that will provide increased

coverage of conference events across ESPN

platforms through the 2023-24 academic year.

As part of the deal – which continues a business

relationship that began in 1986 – ESPN, the

Missouri Valley Conference and its 10 member

institutions will work jointly to develop in-house

production capabilities at each campus that will

provide significant national coverage for multiple

sports on ESPN3 and hands-on educational

opportunities for students. As a result, ESPN3

will showcase a minimum of 820 events a year (a

minimum of 70 men’s basketball) in the final six

years of the agreement.

In 2015, all Wichita State volleyball home matches

and road Valley matches will be streamed on

ESPN3.

WSU Receives Votes in AVCA Poll

The Wichita State volleyball team received votes in the AVCA Preseason

Poll, which was released Aug. 12. The Shockers received nine points

in the poll.

The Shockers open the season on the road Aug. 28, at the Chevron

Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, against Oregon State.

WSU returns six starters and 12 letterwinners to a team that went 20-10

in 2014.

The Shockers will play five teams that are ranked or receiving votes in

the preseason poll including Illinois (8th), Kentucky (15th), Hawaii (18th),

Oregon State (RV) and Texas A&M (RV).

Shocks Picked First in Preseason MVC Poll

The Wichita State volleyball team is picked first in the 2015 Missouri

Val-ley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Shockers received seven

first-place votes and 97 points in the poll.

The Shockers return 12 letterwinners and six starters from a team that

went 20-10 in 2014.

Lehman Named to Preseason All-Valley Team

Sophomore middle blocker Abbie Lehman has been named to the

pre-season all-Valley team. In 2014, she earned All-America and first team

all-Valley honors and averaged 2.55 kills and 0.85 blocks per set, while

hitting .382.

Sisters

Sisters Dani Mostrom and Gabi Mostrom are the fifth set of sisters to play

volleyball at Wichita State. They are only the second set to play together

at WSU joining Marsha and Pam Olmsted who played together for the

Shockers in 1976. The other Shocker sisters include: Valerie and Kim

Wadsworth, Jessica and Taylor Keys and Angie and Michele Hallagin.

Six Starters Return

The Shockers return six starters (Katie Reilly, Abbie Lehman, MaryAshton

Floyd, Emily Hiebert, Jenny Whitledge, Mikaela Raudsepp) in 2014 from a

team that went 20-10 a year ago. WSU also returns libero Dani Mostrom.

Shocks Eighth Nationally in Attendance in 2014

WSU volleyball ranked in the top-10 nationally in attendance in 2014. The

Shockers had a total attendance figure of 27,706 and averaged 3,078

fans per match, which was eighth nationally.

Lamb Returns for 16th Season

Head coach Chris Lamb, four-time MVC Coach of the Year, returns for

his 16th season after guiding the Shockers to 12-straight 20-win seasons.

In 2011, he became the winningest coach in Shocker volleyball history

and in 2013 he won his 300th career match.

Valley Titles

WSU has won five out of the last 11 MVC regular-season titles. The

Shockers collected titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2013.

Fall Practice Schedule

The Shockers will practice in the Aetna Multi-Purpose Center on

Monday-Thursday from 1-4 p.m. On the day before a home match, the team will

practice on Devlin Court.

Shocks Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

The Wichita State volleyball program has been named a recipient of the

2014-15 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

WSU is one of 146 Division I programs to earn the award.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors

collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence

in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30

cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative

team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Recipients of the award range from NCAA Division I institutions to high

school girls’ and boys’ teams.

The Shockers had a team GPA of 3.46 last season.

2014 Review

The Shockers went 20-10 in 2014 and 13-5 in the Missouri Valley

Confer-ence. Leading the Shockers was honorable mention All-American middle

blocker Abbie Lehman and first team all-Valley selection MaryAshton

Floyd. Ashlyn Driskill earned second team all-Valley honors, while Lehman

and Emily Hiebert were both named to the Valley all-freshman team.
