About MDT International’s

in-house training courses

For over 20 years, MDT International has delivered thousands of practical

training courses on key financial, commercial and management topics to the

international oil and gas industry.

Around half of our training is delivered through customised in-house courses, where we adapt our core material to meet the specific learning and development needs of our clients. These courses are designed in close collaboration with clients’ management, HR and training departments to ensure that the outcomes are fully realised.

In recent years, we have developed in-house courses for a wide range of international oil and gas operators, contractors and service companies, including BG, Chevron, OMV, Petrobras, Proserv, Schlumberger and Tullow Oil.

The benefits of MDT International’s in-house training courses:

• Convenient, intensive and time-effective for participants • Concentration on the practical application of theory to get results • Customised, company-specific materials ensure direct relevance • Group dynamics overcome inhibitions and encourage participation • Direct access to some of the most knowledgeable trainers in the industry

Case study:

Proserv is an international production technology and services company for the

energy industry, based in Aberdeenshire, UK, and with over 1,600 people operating

from 30 sites around the world.

Proserv wanted to add a new component to its already extensive training and development programme to enable its non-financial people to understand, manage and improve the financial performance of the areas of the company for which they are responsible. We were recommended to Proserv Vice President of Finance, Stephen Cox, by an existing MDT International client, Premier Oil, and he approached us with a clear set of objectives for the development of the company’s non-financial personnel:

• An improved understanding of financial information and reports

• Knowing how to use this information to improve profitability and cash flow

• Understanding how to manage KPIs and add value

• Opening the “black box” to understand the financial criteria by which hard work is expressed

Course development

We based this new course on one of our most popular open training courses – “Mastering Finance for Non-Financial Oil and Gas Personnel” – and worked closely with Proserv to customise the course material.

In particular, we aimed to identify:

• Proserv’s key business drivers • The specific training objectives and

desired learning outcomes • The numbers, experience levels and

locations of participants • Relevant industry material and

examples

• Relevant company-specific material • Possible challenges in delivery

Course delivery

Drawing on our extensive experience in customising in-house training courses for

clients, we were able to deliver a pilot course for

Proserv

in Aberdeen in July 2011,

only three months after the company’s initial enquiry.

The success of this pilot course encouraged us to work closely with Proserv on further customisation of the content, and an enhanced course was delivered in Aberdeen in October 2011. In our standard post-course evaluation, participants expressed 100% satisfaction that the course met their expectations and satisfied their training needs. Internal recommendations spread throughout the company, and MDT went on to deliver an

intensive six-month international programme in 2012, with the course running seven times in Aberdeen, Dubai, Houston and Indonesia. We are now in discussions with Proserv to design and deliver a Level 2 course on related financial topics to further raise the levels of understanding of financial information throughout the company as well as further repeat bookings in 2013 of the original material.

Right from the start MDT made it very easy

to develop a tailored solution to enhance

the skills of our P&L owners and influencers.

Nick took a very rough set of ideas, asked all

the right questions, and not only developed a

product that has become a great tool for our

organisation, but also delivers the training in

such a manner that attendees visibly ‘buy into’

the ideas and learnings offered.
