Let’s look at some individual data points. The following chart shows Periodic exams during the years 2010 to 2012

The table shows the average number of periodic exams per practice by year and month. For 2012 the numbers seem to be going lower. In 2011, the average for the year is 97.25 and for 2010 average is 99.75.

(D0120) This refers to an evaluation on a patient of record who has already had a comprehensive oral ex-amination or previous periodic oral examina-tion within a period of 30 months

The monthly average for the number of patients seen is an important number for practices to know and un-derstand. For a practice, the month-to-month number will differ due to different variables that are associ-ated with running a dental practice. For 2012, we can see the data is on target to surpass the yearly monthly average of: 2010 = 105.5 and in 2011 = 104.1.

DOCTORS NET PRODUCTION TO SCHEDULED PRODUCTION

November 19, 2012 © Sikka Software Corporation November 19, 2012 © Sikka Software Corporation Comprehensive exams to new patients is on

a slight uptick compared to the year before. This is a good sign.

Doctor’s net production to scheduled production took a dive beginning of this year and has consistently tracked below the 2011 numbers. The reason probably is more patients cancelling at the last moment.

PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE Ratio of 3 month treatment acceptance took a dive in

the month of October. This is particularly alarming. The number of patients reappointed to hygienists is a staying the same.

Locally applied antimicrobials are seeing a decline this year compared to last year. The last three months have seen some stability and num-bers finally tracking the averages from last year.

Periodontal maintenance was tracking higher through the first half of the year, as well as October. 2000 1500 1000 500 0

November 19, 2012 © Sikka Software Corporation November 19, 2012 © Sikka Software Corporation Gross production per comprehensive exam is slightly

higher than 2011. That is a silver lining to the dark clouds. This means that there is more being diagnosed by dentists and more being accepted by patients.

Dentists are spending their chair side time very ef-fectively. The net production per hour this year has consistently outperformed that of the last year.

RECALL EFFECTIVENESS

The gross production per visit is tracking at the same

level as last year. X-rays to comprehensive exams is an indicator that more diagnosis is being done. In the last couple of months there has been an increase in X-rays to comprehensive exams.

Number of patients reappointed to hygienist was tracking higher throughout this year compared to the previous year.

Recall effectiveness is an important component of success-ful dental practice. This shows that of the patients who are being scheduled for recalls what percentage are showing up. A higher than 100% indicates that the new patients are coming into the recall program.
