It works incredi-bly quickly and also reliaincredi-bly eliminates sources of er-rors by automatically checking the uploaded files for errors or deviating contents. Prinect manages all information centrally. The data is added to on an ongoing basis and is available simul-taneously throughout the print shop at the Prinect Cockpits. This makes all your print shop’s processes more transparent while also improving your quality and productivity. All processes also benefit from long-term documentation, providing precise analyses and proof of quality and work having been performed.

The “dress rehearsal” – preflighting and data optimi-zation. Customer data can rarely be used as is with-out editing. The print data checking process – known as the preflight – ensures that the data does not con-tain any errors. Prinect incorporates a number of combinable preflight modules. Depending on the re-quirements of your press, Prinect checks the number of colors created in the document and the resolution of the embedded images, thereby ensuring the quality of your print result.

Reliable merging of all variables with job versioning.

If you are producing print jobs in a number of differ-ent languages, the CMY color printing plates mostly stay the same, while the black plate has to be re-placed by the relevant language version. Spot colors are also often used on a version-specific basis. To en-sure smooth production, it is crucial to separate the contents precisely into fixed and variable sections and assign colors appropriately so that there are no over-laps. Consequently, Prinect separates the data at the job acceptance stage and assigns it to different ver-sions. The data is then thoroughly checked before you can output the various combinations using a conve-nient proof mechanism and perform a final check pri-or to platesetting.

Variable equals profitable – impositioning with Prinect. The task is clear – optimizing sheet usage while also being able to react flexibly to changes in machine assignment. Prinect gives you a better over-view and far more visual checking options. Here too, Prinect makes use of the job costing data. A clear job overview and a perfect preview of the print sheet are displayed on the monitor – complete with all production-related assembly parameters such as paper sizes, cutting marks, distances, and motif sizes. Print sheet assignment is automatic and highly effi-cient. Impositioning is also quick and easy with Prinect. Automatic processes and templates minimize both the amount of time required and sources of errors. All settings made are saved centrally and are thus available for subsequent jobs.

Simpler rescheduling. You can change a job that is al-ready in the system to a different format in just a few simple steps thanks to Prinect and its integrated mark editor that creates individual control and text marks or barcodes directly. This means, for example, that color-dependent control marks can be created that automatically adapt the color bar to the document coloring during impositioning.

Optimized sheet. A further module enables you to determine the optimum print sheet assignment with repeats in different formats. This module calculates the number of sheets required, the amount of paper waste, and any excess needed. Prinect also uses product information from the job costing – such as binding methods, formats, and page counts – at the impositioning stage to specify presets for folders and cutters.

On your marks, get set, image. Speed and precision are crucial aspects of print plate production. Here too, your process becomes quicker, simpler, and more reliable as the level of automation increases. The ras-ter image processor (RIP) converts the layout data for a print job into high-resolution screen dots that can then be output on platesetters. The Prinect RIP is based on Adobe® Standard and works with the Adobe PDF Print Engine. The special thing about this process is that you can rip all PDF documents without first

converting to PostScript®. The PDF documents are processed correctly with all transparencies, avoiding errors during proof and plate output. Prinect only uses one RIP for both proof and plate, thereby ensur-ing integrated color management and identical output results throughout your print shop workflow. The digi-tal data created at the prepress stage is used in the Prinect workflow both for platesetting and as a basis for controlling downstream press and postpress pro-cesses.

Matching proofs and prints. Proofs simulate the print result. They are used internally for checking the quali-ty of work and externally for customer approval. In order to produce a result that is very close to the original, Prinect controls all standard proofers directly. For true color reproduction with matching proof and print, Prinect works with the standardized Interna-tional Color Consortium (ICC) color profiles. These can be obtained from any source and processed with-out any conversion whatsoever. Using the same RIP for calculating the proof data and output to the press optimizes color matching. Spot colors are also dis-played true to the original in the extended proof space.

Optimized for printing – Heidelberg screening.

Prinect offers you a choice of conventional amplitude-modulated (AM) screening as well as frequency- modulated (FM), and hybrid screens. This versatility ensures that you can select the best screen for each customer configuration based on the plates, plate-setter, paper, and press used. You can also combine different

screening systems within a single PDF document to screen individual text, image and graphic objects us-ing the ideal method. This enables you to optimize the relationship between print quality and production costs at any time in response to customer require-ments.

Setting is decisive in postpress, too. Prinect enables to you save time throughout the production process, including postpress. All key job data is automatically available to machine operators. Prinect supplies pre-setting data for pre-setting up die cutters, folders, and saddlestichers step by step in an automated process. Cutting and folding marks and folding layouts are cre-ated at the prepress stage. You can also specify an imposition layout that takes into account both the structure of the end product and the properties of the machines involved. As a result, Prinect optimizes postpress options at the prepress stage and makes it easy to identify jobs with identical machine require-ments, which saves time when processing them.

Prinect ensures reliable color and quality management, making life easy for you by presetting the press automatically and making sure that the exact coloring required is achieved quickly and maintained throughout the run.

Prinect, prepress and press become a single system. A large number of pressroom parameters are estab-lished at the prepress stage and subsequent printing is based on clearly defined colorimetric values that you can check using reliable spectrophotometric color measuring devices. Deviations from the specified val-ues are corrected with absolute precision, and inking is accurate and reliable. Prinect logs the production

Printing based on standards such as the ISO standard or the process standard for offset printing facilitates color and quality management, enabling you to com-ply with customer specifications faster and more easi-ly. Reference values and tolerances are defined during standardization. These values are then used to pre-cisely coordinate proofers, platesetters, and press.

A question of profile – optimized results for proofing and print. Prinect ensures that proofs and prints match perfectly, making lithographic processes at the press a thing of the past. The proof accurately simu-lates the print result. The RIP also has access to a series of calibration profiles for platesetting that are coordinated with the relevant press and the consum-ables used. Color presetting profiles are stored for different ink/paper combinations and are loaded automatically. If color values are adapted dur-ing printdur-ing, you can adopt the settdur-ings as a new profile.

A matter of precision – excellent register accuracy is essential. Prinect can measure and control the ma-chine register absolutely automatically on the fly. This cuts make-ready times and ensures perfect quality. Control marks can be located at the edge of the sheet or in the color bar to save space. This enables you to automatically identify and correct register deviations as small as one hundredth of a millimeter – a real ad-vantage, especially at high press speeds.

Everything under control – with color measurement.

Color consistency also needs to be ensured in the production run if you want cost-effective production. As a result, you need to be able to identify and cor-rect even the smallest color deviations on the fly. This speeds up production significantly while still main-taining the highest of standards. Prinect offers you various color measuring systems for quality control purposes. They all measure spot and process colors spectrophotometrically. In addition to colorimetric color differences, ink densities and tonal values are also displayed and adjustments for the individual ink zones are calculated automatically. As all measuring systems are linked to the press control system, you can correct deviations directly. Depending on the sys-tem, measurements may be performed inside or out-side the press, in the color bar, or in the entire image.

Your third eye – quality inspection. Prinect has inline inspection systems that cover all aspects of sheet in-spection. These systems compare each sheet pro-duced with a digital reference sheet, enabling you to identify and correct printing errors immediately – long before you incur high costs for paper waste and re-working. Defective sheets are marked in the delivery pile.

Process control on the fly – identifying and compen-sating fluctuations in the printing process. With Prinect, you can control the coloring process on the fly. In addition to color bars, Prinect also uses measuring elements known as Mini Spots that can be positioned anywhere on the sheet. They are measured on the fly and compared with the standard’s target values. If de-viations are identified, you can immediately apply corrections to the existing printing characteristic dur-ing plate manufacture or to the ICC profile bedur-ing used. The next plate set or the next proof will be per-fectly matched to the new printing conditions. All the measuring data obtained can be logged and used for long-term evaluations or as a quality reference.

By comparing the current job with the next one in the schedule, Prinect establishes which settings can be left and the changes that need to be made. This generates a dynamic process list with an optimum sequence of steps that can be work-ed through automatically. There is much less legwork and far fewer settings need to be made, which mini-mizes errors and cuts make-ready times.

Everything at a glance. All Speedmaster® presses are based on a standardized hardware and software platform with full integration of key peripherals and the color measuring and control systems for monitor-ing print quality. All components can be controlled simply, centrally, and reliably.
