Questions and Support

Why does the Ford Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding course have to be held at my shop?

Events are held in-shop to allow your technicians one-on-one personal attention and to let them learn on the same

equipment they will use every day.

How long is the welding course and what can I expect?

Every event is slightly different based on the number of technicians participating and their respective welding

skill levels. An event with six or fewer technicians will typically last six to eight hours. Each event consists of four

components. These include:

1. Welding Capability & Readiness Assessment: 1 hour

2. Aluminum Theory Instruction: 1 - 1.5 hours

3. Hands-on Practice: 1 - 2 hours

4. Certification Test: 1.5 - 3 hours

What is the required Welding Capability & Readiness Assessment?

The Welding Capability & Readiness Assessment is conducted, on training day, in order to make sure the infrastructure,

welding and safety equipment are adequate for a safe and successful event. Click here to view a detailed facility preparation

checklist. The fee is required and charged once for each event.

When will the shop be charged for the I-CAR Welding Training & Certification event?

You will be asked to provide your payment information (credit card or check) when you return your registration form by fax or

mail. Payment is processed upon receipt of the registration form.

Can more than one technician attend the event at my shop?

Yes, and I-CAR encourages you to register all of your technicians who weld for the training when the instructor will be onsite

for the event. I-CAR’s new group-pricing makes training multiple technicians more affordable. Please note: a maximum of

two students can take the course at the same time for every MIG welding machine in your shop.

After I request the Ford Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding course, what should I do if I have not heard from

an I-CAR representative?

You should contact I-CAR Customer Care at 888.589.3148.

Why do I need to provide a Certificate of Insurance before an event is scheduled?

The certificate of insurance provides liability coverage to protect the shop’s liability in the unlikely event of injury or

equipment damage during an I-CAR Welding Training & Certification course.

If a technician fails the Certification test, does he/she have to retake the entire Welding Training &

Certification again on another date to attain the Certification?

Yes, however because of the high level of instructor support and interaction, the test pass rate is high. The event includes

an intensive practice session in which technicians will have several chances to work on the welds required for the final test

while supervised and coached by the I-CAR instructor, and technicians will be allowed multiple attempts at each weld if

needed during the Certification test.

How long will my technician’s Welding Training & Certification remain valid?

The I-CAR Welding Training & Certification is valid for five years. In order to ensure skills remain up-to-date, technicians are

required to take an I-CAR Welding Training & Certification class once every five years to maintain certification.
