BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM H. SELLMAN

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF SEIU LOCAL 400 PG

William H. Sellman was born on July 4, 1949 in Upper Marlboro Maryland. He is married with three children and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Sellman started working with the Prince George’s County School System in 1970 at Frances T. Evans as a night cleaner. He quickly moved up to Night Lead at Frances T. Evans and shortly after was promoted to Night Foreman at Surrattsville Junior High School. Over the next few years he was a Building Supervisor II at Samuel Chase

Elementary School, Building Supervisor III at Woodmore Elementary School, Building Supervisor IV at Shuggart Middle School, and Building Supervisor V at Potomac H. S. He eventually became a Building Supervisor VI at High Point High School, where he has been for seventeen (17) years during which he was made a Chief Building

Supervisor in charge of fourteen schools in his cluster until the program was disbanded in July 2012.

During his thirty-seven (37) years with the school system Mr. Sellman has received numerous awards and in 2000 received the Outstanding Support Personnel Award.

Mr. Sellman likes to keep up to date with the entire goings on of the school system and attends seminars and workshops such as How to Deal with Difficult Employees, Daycon Custodial Supply Company etc.

Mr. Sellman started with the Local in 1985 as a trustee and became Executive Vice President in 1986. He works hard with the membership and always tries to help with matters concerning the membership.

Mr. Sellman enjoys spending time with his family. His hobbies include exercising, jogging, bike riding and cars. Mr. Sellman has ridden his bike for as far as 65 miles. Mr. Sellman has participated in such events as Race for the Cure, Bay Bridge Walk and Bike Rides for Easter Seal.

As Union Executive Vice President, he has negotiated new contracts with the School Board for the custodians and has handled the grievances the members have had over the years. He continues to represent the membership faithfully.

Mr. Sellman continues his duties as the Executive Vice President of SEIU Local 400 PG, always working to better the internal functions of the Union and is held in high regard by many within the PGCPS school system.

ELIGIBILITY: Any SEIU Local 400 PG member who is in good standings with the local is eligible to apply for the SEIU Local 400 PG Scholarship.

WHO MAY APPLY:

SEIU Local 400 PG members, member’s children, grandchildren and/or legal guardians are eligible; provided that they are high school seniors or have not completed more than two (2) years of college. (Members, and their families, who serve on the Officers Board, the Executive Board, the Trustee Board or who serve as a committee member are not eligible to apply)

You may use the following checklist to ensure the application process is complete. All documents must arrive in the same package for the submission to be considered complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
