Transmitter power supplies transfer 4-20 mA signals from transmitters in hazardous areas and
supply them with power. They deliver an electrical signal that is proportional to a measured value
such as temperature, pressure or flow from hazardous areas to safe areas. The power supply and
signal are transferred through the same conductors in 2-wire transmitters allowing only 4-20 mA
signals. The power supply and signal are isolated from one another in 3-wire transmitters allowing
for 0 mA signals. These mA signals can then be repeated on the safe side of the isolator or can be
converted to other usable signals such as voltage. SMART transmitter power supplies repeat the
transmitter current in addition to a digital signal, which is modulated onto the 4-20 mA signal.
SMART transmitters can be calibrated remotely. This allows the transmitter’s span and zero set point
to be modified in the safe area and information on scheduled maintenance or statistical data to be
accessed on-line. SMART transmitters normally operate in a 2-wire mode. This 2-wire connection
is usually interfaced with a hand-held terminal or a PC for data transmission or accumulation.
P+F SMART transmitter power supplies are shipped with terminal blocks to allow easy access to
communication leads. SMART transmitters from ABB, Bailey, Chessel, Edress+Hauser,
Fisher-Rosemount, Foxboro, Honeywell, Smar and Yokogawa have been successfully tested with P+F
isolators. Please note that some higher communication frequencies require use of the
KFD2-STC3-Ex1 or the KFD2-STV3-KFD2-STC3-Ex1. These isolators are rated for frequencies up to 40 kHz.

This single-channel isolator powers and repeats the 4-20 mA signal from a 2-wire transmitter in hazardous areas. It has an open circuit voltage of 25 V with a minimum of 17.6 V at 20 mA. The transmitter must be connected to terminals 1 and 3 so the 4-20 mA transmitter current flows into the measurement circuit via terminal 3.
A maximum load of 1 kΩ can be
connected between terminals 7 and 8.

This single-channel isolator powers and repeats a 0/4-20 mA signal from a 2- or 3-wire transmitter in hazardous areas and converts it into a voltage output. It also repeats a 0/4-20 mA signal from a current source. Two-wire transmitters are connected to terminals 1 and 3 so the 0/4-20 mA transmitter current flows to terminal 3. Approximately 15.3 V is available at 25 mA between terminals 1 and 2 for the transmitter. Terminals 2 and 3 are used for connections in applications requiring repeating source currents. This configuration has no terminal 1 connections.
The measurement current is converted into a proportional voltage signal once transmitted to the output.
The output circuit has two sets of terminal blocks for the parallel connection of two voltage measurement circuits. The voltage measurement circuits must have a resistance
of at least 2 kΩ.

KFD2-STC1-Ex1
This single-channel isolator powers and repeats the 4-20 mA signal from a 2-wire transmitter inside hazardous area.
This isolator can also repeat a maximum 12 kHz digital signal that is modulated on the 4-20 mA signal. A processing system, field device or hand-held terminal generates this digital information, which is transferred bidirectionally by the isolator. This allows the operator to interrogate and reprogram the transmitter from a safe area using uncertified communication equipment. Hand-held terminals can be connected as shown in the circuit diagram. These isolators have KF-STP-BU and KF-STP-GN terminals with test probe access holes for the easy interface of hand-held terminals.

KFD2-STV1-Ex1
KFD2-STV1-Ex1 9 11This single-channel isolator powers and repeats the 4-20 mA signal from a 2-wire transmitter inside a hazardous area. This 4-20 mA current is converted into a 1-5 V signal.
Note:
Terminal 12 is placed across an internally applied capacitance. Active input cards, such as Foxboro FMB 18, can operate using this connection.
