1 Feature Scope Description for SAP Data Warehouse Cloud
The feature scope description provides a high-level list of the features that are available with SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.
SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is an integrated, fully managed service, and persona-driven Data Warehouse as a Service solution, suitable for SAP and non-SAP customers offering reduced deployment complexity, flexible pricing with integration to SAP Intelligent Enterprise Suite solutions, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) services, partner solutions and open-source technologies.
Tight integration of SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and SAP Analytics Cloud is key for us. With version 2021.03 we made some changes to the integration of SAC and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud in order to streamline the multiple data connectivity options between SAC and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud as well as to improve the user experience of SAC connection handling.
The changes lead to
● simplification of data connectivity between SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud
● more flexibility for customers for integration and switching between SAC and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud applications
The changes result in some minor differences between SAP Data Warehouse Cloud systems provisioned with version 2021.03 or higher and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud systems provisioned prior to version 2021.03.
1.1 SAP Data Warehouse Cloud provisioned with version 2021.03 or higher
The following features are available for SAP Data Warehouse Cloud systems that were provisioned with version 2021.03 or higher.
1.1.1 Data Modeling
Data models help you to provide a trusted self-service data warehouse environment in your organization.
A model is a representation of the business data of an organization or business segment. They should be prepared, governed, and secured by a business analyst, with data and business knowledge in a particular domain.
Feature Description
Overview Access and browse existing data models the user is authorized
for:
● browse your objects
● create new objects
● edit, copy and share objects
● use data lineage
Create models ● Use entity-relationship modeling to create new tables, new
views and new associations
● Model views using a graphical UI or SQL as a basis for data analysis:
○ use join and union
○ rename and remove columns
○ add calculations and filters to your views
○ use input parameters
○ use an intelligent lookup to iteratively join entities by defining rules to match records and then reviewing the results
● Use table modeling
● Load and prepare csv files to generate tables
● Model ETL processes
Create business models ● Create models based on existing tables and views using a business approach
● Import models from SAP BW/4HANA and generate busi
ness models
Hierarchies Model hierarchies or use external hierarchies to structure your data.
Two types of hierarchy are available:
● Level-based hierarchies
● Parent-child hierarchies
1.1.2 Consumption
You can explore data interactively to find insights and visualize information with charts and tables.
Feature Description
SAP Analytics Cloud Connect your SAP Data Warehouse Cloud as a remote live connection to any SAP Analytics Cloud
Third party front end tools Connect third party front end tools via SQL to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud
1.1.3 Data Integration
SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is compatible with a great variety of data sources, SAP and non-SAP sources.
Feature Description
Connections Create connections to source systems to allow accessing
data from those systems or importing data into SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.
Connection types Access on-premise or cloud data from SAP systems, non-
SAP systems and partner systems
Data access Use the following possibilities to access your data:
● virtual access
● full load
● snapshot replication
● CDC replication (realtime delta)
Data Ingestion Ingest data into SAP Data Warehouse Cloud using any 3rd
party SQL client by connecting to the SQL interface for data ingestion in your space
Additional data sources ● Load local files (csv)
● Access tables in the SAP HANA Cloud, data lake
● Access models from SAP HANA Deployment Infrastruc
ture (HDI) containers
● Ingest data from a third-party tool
● Access models from SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW bridge
Data flow Model the flow of data from source to target and perform
data transformations.
Monitoring ● Monitor and schedule the status of the data replication
● Use Partitioning
1.1.4 Governance
SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is persona-driven, which means that we deliver one product with Spaces for different user roles.
Spaces are environments that bring data models, connections, compute and storage resources together for a specific line of business or use-case. It has a trust zone, meaning only certains users, who are assigned to your space can see and work within that Space.
The Administrator can add users, assign them to specific Spaces, and give them different roles.
Feature Description
Spaces ● Create and delete Spaces
● Manage storage quotas
● Enable the consumption or digestion of data from third- party tools.
● Create time tables and dimensions to use in models and stories
● Enable access to models from SAP HANA Deployment Infrastructure (HDI) containers
Security ● Assign users to Spaces, and remove users from Spaces
● Assign users to roles
● Define high-level as well as fine-granular permissions for various operations
● Define authorizations for individual rows of data
● Trace authorizations
● Audit and activity logging
● IP allowlist: add a client of your local network to an al
lowlist to allow it to connect to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud database
1.2 SAP Data Warehouse Cloud provisioned prior to version 2021.03
The following features are available for SAP Data Warehouse Cloud systems that were initially provisioned prior to version 2021.03.
