When I call, answer me, O my just God, you who relieve me when I am in distress;

have pity on me, and hear my prayer!

Know that the LORD does wonders for his faithful one;

the LORD will hear me when I call upon Him.

O LORD, let the light of your countenance shine upon us!

Easter Season Continues Easter Season Continues Easter Season Continues Easter Season Continues

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is such a pivotal event in the liturgical year that we do not celebrate it on one day only.

So the Church gives us the Easter Season, roughly 50 days between Easter Sunday and Pentecost, so we can ponder and put into action the transformation that the Risen Christ has brought into our lives. The Easter season is also known as the period of mystagogia, a time for the mysteries of our faith to deepen in the hearts and lives of the new members of our Church who were baptized or received

in full communion at the Easter Vigil. The early Church understood that these mysteries needed time to “sink in” and mature.

This is why parish RCIA programs continue during the Easter season, to support the newly initiated into the full life of their parish.

Every week this Bulletin is a source of inspiration and information for Parishioners and friends of Saint Cecilia.

Here is where you can gain insights into the week’s scripture, learn more about our faith, view new Parish activities, see what’s happening at our school. It provides a quick reference guide to what’s going on, where,

when, and who is hosting an event or service – and how to get in touch with them, and how you can participate – or volunteer!

It’s appropriate to remember that this is made possible through the support of our Bulletin sponsors/advertisers. We thank them for their continued, year-round support.

Here is my challenge to you, Dear Reader: When you need a product or service, don’t go straight to Google; don’t consult your Yellow Pages; don’t post on the NextDoor site or check your neighborhood newsletter. Make your St. Cecilia Bulletin your first stop.

Need a Dentist, a Bank, a Landscaper, a Realtor, House Cleaner, Roofer, Lawyer, Clothier, Financial or Tax advisor? Looking for a dinner idea? Need computer help? You can find all this and more in your weekly Bulletin. And be sure you tell them that you found them in the Saint Cecilia Bulletin!

Note - Are you aware that you can get all the news that fits (in the Bulletin) each week via email before the weekend Masses?

(That way, you’ll already be “in the know,” and be able to pay more attention to the sermon). If you don’t already participate, call the parish office (402.551.2313) or email [email protected] and share your current email address with us.

Yours in Christ, John Wees Development and Alumni Director

School of Faith Lessons School of Faith Lessons School of Faith Lessons School of Faith Lessons

Just before Easter break, the teachers and I attended a School of Faith session that focused on the importance of virtues and how those virtues facilitate happiness in our lives. We discussed how the virtues are connected to grace and how they enable us to be Christ-like.

And the most important topic we talked about was how we can instill these ideas into our students. As a leader of a Catholic school, one of the questions I get asked the most is “What makes Catholic schools different from public schools?” And I always answer the same way by stating, “I think the question you meant to ask is what makes St. Cecilia Cathedral Catholic School different from all other schools.”

The School of Faith session was so powerful for all of the teachers because it focused on the answer to that question. Saint Cecilia School focuses on teaching and instilling the four Cardinal virtues in our students' lives: prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude.

PRUDENCE

is the intellectual virtue whereby a human being recognizes in any matter at hand what is good and what is evil; enabling one to reason and to act rightly in any given situation.

Ways to cultivate this virtue in students: encourage them to seek advice from trustworthy people, take actions after thoughtful deliberation, think before acting and speaking, and listen to the teacher and follow directions.

JUSTICE

is the virtue that enables one to give to each, beginning with God, what is due to that person. Virtues that fall in this category include: affability (being easy to approach and talk to), courtesy (treating others with respect), generosity (giving of oneself in a willing manner), gratitude (having a thankful disposition), and loyalty (respecting the bonds in relationships).

TEMPERANCE

is the virtue that moderates the desire for pleasure, also known as self-control. We encourage this virtue in our students by encouraging them to tell the truth (even if it may get you in trouble), applauding someone who does a good job, thinking before reacting, resisting the desire to play during work time in class, and by not being boastful (having a uniform dress code).

FORTITUDE

enables one to endure difficulties and pain for the sake of what is good. Virtues that fall within this Cardinal virtue include: industriousness (complete tasks in priority order), patience (wait your turn), perseverance (complete homework first and then

you can have free time), and respect.

These four Cardinal virtues are the spiritual glue that holds our school together and why our students continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. These virtues are the same ones we grew up with as kids and will continue to be the foundation of our school for years to come. These “Rules of Life” that your children are surrounded with here at Saint Cecilia Cathedral are just one reason why they are truly magnificent individuals.

Yours in Christ, Mrs. Pick, Principal
