The faithful of the Diocese are invited to join Bishop Amos for the Chrism Mass on Mon., March 18 at 5:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. The Chrism Mass is a wonderful opportunity for the entire diocese: priests, deacons, religious, and the lay faithful to gather with our Bishop for Eucharist. The blessing of the oils that will be used in the Sacraments the coming year makes it a particularly special Mass for the RCIA groups to attend. Because the priests also renew their vows this day, coming to the Chrism Mass is a great way to prayerfully support and encourage them in their ministry. Our three priests will be attending the annual Clergy Convocation in Davenport on March 18-19 as well as participating in the Chrism Mass.
Confessions are heard every Saturday at St. Paul’s Church from 11am-12 Noon. The
Lenten Communal Penance Service for Des Moines County is at 10 am on
Saturday, March 23 at St. John’s Church. A very important part of our Lenten journey should include receiving Our Lord’s forgive-ness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Confessions will not be heard on Holy Saturday, March 30.

Dear People of God, A true story:
“The children of a woman who had just died went to gather her things and close her home. One of the children found her mother’s checkbook and began to thumb through it. After every recorded deposit of her Social Security check, the first check she wrote was to her Parish – exactly 10 percent of the deposit. Then came checks for utilities, food, medicines and other necessities. Then came checks for gifts to her
grandchildren and donations to charities.
“The family was deeply touched by what they read, realizing the depth of their mom’s kindness and love. As one of them said, ‘The story of mom’s life is in her checkbook.’”
This brings us to the next letter that will help us come closer to Jesus during this Year of Faith and the great Season of Lent:
Our faith is a total life-time commitment. It cannot be confined to an hour on Sunday. We are called to make our faith important at all times of our lives. We are called to be disciples of Jesus at all times of our lives, not just when it is convenient.
Congratulations to our young men and women who will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming Wednesday. My hope and prayer is that they see the power of the Holy Spirit working in their hearts and lives. May they use their gifts and talents in service to our Parish, our community and our world. May they be true disciples of Jesus.
And may they get the example they need from all of us who are a bit older!
Have a great week!
A Lenten “afternoon of reflection” will be offered TODAY

There are three characters in today’s parable whom Jesus wants us to examine. Actually, Jesus is presenting them to us so that we might, in turn, take a look at ourselves. How does each one of these characters mirror us, reflect back to us our own attitudes and conditions relative to God? This parable invites us to enter into the actors and to see our-selves in them. Today we rejoice at the midpoint of Lent.
Our joy is more than relief that we are halfway to Easter. It comes from our reflection on our history, our deliverance from exile by God’s overwhelming mercy and love, lavished on us in the gift of his Son.
Liturgical Ministry Schedules will be available the weekend of March 16-17. The schedule will include Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter Masses. Thanks to the many parishioners who participate in our weekend liturgies.
Blood pressure checks will be taken after Masses next weekend. Thanks to Sue Steer and Glenda Hohenthaner
