Failure to bring any prerequisites, required forms and or required PPE to class will result in you being reassigned to a different class. No refund will be given for your failure to follow instructions.

Second Choice – On October 30th any class that fails to have a sufficient number of students enrolled will be cancelled. You will be placed in your second choice class.

Refunds – Will be given only to students whose class(es) are cancelled, where there is no second choice available. The registration fee is completely transferable. Please call (270) 901-1074 or email [email protected] or [email protected] to transfer a student.

Forms – The “Live Fire Course Competency Validation” must be completed and accompany your registration or be presented the first day of class for the “Propane Emergencies” and “Fire Control” classes.

Under 18 – If you are under the age of 18, an “Explorer / Jr. Firefighter Permission Form” must be completed and accompany your registration form or be presented the first day of class for all classes that you wish to attend.

Class # 001 – Instructor Methodology Update Ages 18+ - This class will meet the new requirement for all KY Fire Instructors that must take at least 4

hours of methodology to renew their instructor certifications. This affects ALL KY Fire Instructors effective January 1st, 2016.

Class # 100 – Firefighter Safety & Survival *New 2015 Curriculum* Ages 15+ - This course is designed to help firefighters save themselves when trapped or involved in an

impending flashover. The course is required for Kentucky Firefighter Certification and upon successful completion of the course, 1.1 hours of degree credit will be awarded for FRS 2052. “Participant” certificates issued to all completing required skills. “Observer” certificates issued to those that attend lecture only.

Lead Instructor: Tiger Tucker, SFRT Area 6

Equipment Needed: Full turnout gear including SCBA and PASS device

Prerequisites: Competent in the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Permission Form if under 18 Class # 101 – Propane Emergencies Ages 18+

- This is a LIVE-FIRE, HANDS-ON course that helps the firefighter make informed decisions concerning propane emergencies. The Bobtail Propane Prop will be used.

Lead Instructor: Ronnie Stinson, SFRT Area 4

Equipment Needed: Full turnout gear and SCBA with PASS device and spare bottle. All turnout gear must be NFPA compliant; students will not be allowed to participate if the instructors find that the gear is not NFPA compliant or otherwise poses a hazard. SCBA bottles must have a current hydrostatic test date.

Prerequisite: Completion of NFPA 1403 required components prior to enrolling; “Live Fire Course Competency Validation” form must be mailed in with payment or brought to class. Student must be competent in the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Students with facial hair impeding the face piece seal will not be allowed to participate.

Area 4 Regional Fire School November 13th-15th, 2015 Class # 102 – Thermal Imaging in the Fire Service Ages 14+

- This class will explore the technology and basic principles associated with thermal imaging. We will also take an in depth look at how to interpret the image and read the monitor of your TIC. Lastly, we will discuss emergency response applications for thermal imaging technology to include: Size up, Search, Fire Attack, Overhaul, Haz Mat, EMS, Wildland as well as other applications.

Lead Instructor: Dennis Stout, RSM/Training Specialist, Bullard Emergency Responder Division Equipment Needed/Prerequisites: Permission Form for anyone under 18 years old

Class # 103 – LIVE FIRE – Fire Control Ages 18+ - This class is a NFPA 1403 compliant, physically demanding LIVE FIRE course. This is not an

acquired structure burn. The Fireblast Trailer will be used during this class to teach fire control techniques. This class will have limited classroom time and primarily will concentrate on hands-on “learning by doing” skills and scenarios. The course is designed for those firefighters who have had at least the Fire Commission recommended 20 hours of initial training. Prepare to train hard.

Class # 200 – Firefighter Rescue *New 2015 Curriculum* Ages 15+ - This course is designed to help firefighters save our fellow firefighters when trapped or involved

in an impending flashover. Area 4 Regional Fire School November 13th-15th, 2015 Class # 201 – Vehicle Extrication Ages 18+

- This class will provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully and properly extricate an accident victim. From hand tools to the newest technology in hydraulic rescue tools, this class will provide you with knowledge of what is available and how to use it. This class will benefit both new and experienced responders. This class will concentrate on hands-on “learning by doing” skills.

Lead Instructor: Bill Davis, AMKUS Rescue Systems & Brian Marr, SFRT Area 4

Equipment Needed: Full turnout gear or extrication suit, Fire or Rescue Helmet and Eye Protection (safety glasses) required.

Prerequisite: Competent in the use of Personal Protective Equipment

Class # 202 – Flashover Survival and Recognition Ages 18+

- This course is designed to provide the fire service with a safe and secure method of flashover training. Firefighters are taught to recognize the signs of an impending flashover and provide techniques for possibly escaping an impending flashover with the goal of saving firefighters from injury and death. The Flashover Chamber will be used for this class.

Equipment Needed: Full turnout gear and SCBA with PASS device and spare bottle. Class # 203 – KY Fire Commission Update Ages 14+ - This course covers the basic management techniques applicable to effectively administering a

fire service organization. This course covers basic principles of planning, organizing, and controlling, fire department functions and managing personnel, records including Workman’s Comp forms, State Aid, NFIRS, and ISO requirements.

Class # 300 – Farm Rescue Ages 18+ - This course is designed to help the firefighter/rescuer understand responding to farm

emergencies. This course is designed to familiarize firefighters with special techniques required to successfully coordinate and execute an agricultural rescue. Topics are: Rural vs. urban farm accidents, Common types of farm accidents and special challenges, Understanding farm equipment mechanics, Special situations when responding, Management of farm related incidents, Extrication and disentanglement techniques.

This class will be held at WKU’s Farm located across from 1103 Elrod Rd., Bowling Green, KY 42104. Signs will be posted on Elrod Rd. Please plan accordingly for

transportation purposes. Lead Instructor: Dale Dobson, SFRT Area 5, KY Dept. of Agriculture

Equipment Needed: Turnout gear or coveralls, fire helmet or hardhat, safety glasses, work gloves, and steel toed boots

Class # 301 – National Fire Academy: Arson Detection for First Responders Ages 14+ - This is the updated National Fire Academy course that emphasizes the firefighter role as a first

responder in the investigation. Chapters on the basics, and observations that must be made by on-scene personnel, lead to a study of assisting investigators, and proper documentation of the run. Kentucky law will be discussed in depth. This course satisfies the requirement for FRS 2074 in the KCTCS AAS Fire/Rescue Technology Degree Program.

Note: Due to the continuing problem of firefighter arson, attendees are required to

bring written approval from the Chief of their department. These will be checked before class begins.

Class # 400 – EMT Refresher Ages 18+ - This class will cover 20 of the required 24 hours to renew a Kentucky Emergency Medical

Technician. Multiple topics will be covered throughout the weekend. Lead Instructor: Terri Bailey, SFRT Area 4

Equipment Needed/Prerequisites: Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or EMR (formerly EMT-First Responder)

Class # 401 – Recruit Firefighter Basic 20 hrs. Ages 14+ - This class will cover the hours recommended for all new firefighters in KY. Topics include:

Admin. & Org. – 2 hrs. Safety – 2 hrs.

Fire Behavior – 1 hr. Port. Extinguishers – 1 hr.

PPE – 3 hrs. Forcible Entry – 1 hr.

Ventilation – 1 hr. Ropes & Knots – 1 hr.

Ladders – 2 hrs. Hose, Nozzles & App. – 2 hrs.

Fire Control – 1 hr. Loss Control (S&O) – 1 hr.

Victim S&R – 1 hr. Drivers Training (POV) – 1 hr.

- This class will be broken up into the Hard to Get categories listed below. Each topic will be 2 hours each. The new KY Fire Commission required Wildland Awareness will be taught on Friday night.
