P. Joachim Lepcha P. Joachim Lepcha
“Your heart shall throb and overflow with joy” (Isaiah 60:5)
When I was in the second year of theology, my bishop sent me to the furthest village to catechize and guide the people in faith. After three hours of walking, I reached the village; they were anxiously waiting for me, they were a simple and very poor people, whose hearts were
throbbing and over lowing with joy. They showed love and welcomed me. “Who among us came to Christ and did not experience the riches of God’s love, a love that can build a heaven in hell’s despair, a love that is unfathomed and deathless, lowing like heaven’s life-stream full and sweet?”
My joy was extended, right away, after few sips of hot tea, I began teaching hymns, the Sacraments, and about the love of Jesus.
I was there as the Magi, not with precious worldly gifts, but the gift of Jesus. They were eager to know about Jesus and their hearts were illed with joy. I knew, “In Christ Jesus the Gentiles are now co-heirs with the Jews, members of the same body and sharers of the
promise.” (Eph. 3:6) I felt that I was given a mandate to reach out with Christ’s saving mission to all people;
missions are a must, not a maybe.
If we have found Christ, then we would daily offer Christ our gift of ‘gold’ to His royalty, namely our loyalty and
idelity to Him. Our gift of ‘frankincense’ to His divinity, our prayers and worship; and our gift of ‘myrrh’ to His humanity. And all our human suffering and sorrows.
If we have not found Him, then our faith must be deep enough to keep us searching for Him in prayer, in the scripture, in service, and in our joys and sorrows of this life. (Mt. 2:11)The feast of Epiphany offers us both a welcome and a challenge. We are invited to renew our faith, continue our search for fullness of Christ. It
challenges us to share the light of Christ that we have received in our baptism. It challenges us to offer Christ to those who are still searching for meaning in their lives.
We are in the mood of celebrating the New Year 2022;
Pope Francis shares with us a message for you and me,
“Like the Magi, we too must allow ourselves to learn from the journey of life, marked by the inevitable inconveniences of travel. We cannot let our weariness; our falls and our failings discourage us. Instead, by humbly acknowledging them, we should make them opportunities to progress towards the Lord Jesus. Life is not about showing off our abilities, but a journey towards the One who loves us.” “We are not to show off our virtues in every step of our life;
rather, with humility we should journey towards the Lord.
By keeping our gaze ixed on the Lord, we will ind the strength needed to persevere with renewed joy.”
"Tu corazón palpitará y rebosará de alegría" (Isaías 60:5)
Cuando estaba en el segundo año de teologı́a, mi obispo me envió a la aldea más lejana para catequizar y guiar a la gente en la fe. Después de tres horas de camino, llegué a la aldea;
Estamos en el ánimo de celebrar el Año Nuevo 2022;

JOURNEY TOWARD GOD
In our celebration of the Epiphany, two interwoven themes are present in the readings today. God is beginning something new, and God gathers all of humanity to participate. For Isaiah, God’s bright light, manifested in the people of Israel, attracts and summons people from many nations to Jerusalem. In the letter to the Ephesians, God’s grace makes the Gentiles co-heirs and co-partners in the gospel. Matthew tells the story of the fulfillment of God’s promises to Israel through the birth of Jesus, and simultaneously leading foreigners to share in these same promises. With the birth of Jesus, God chose a particular people, in a particular time and place, to enter most directly into the human story. Today’s readings teach that God did this in order to gather all people, all cultures, into unity with God. Like the magi, we are drawn into a journey toward God, becoming co-partners in God’s work.

The Epiphany of the Lord At the Mass during the Day O God, who on this day
revealed your Only Begotten Son to the nations by the guidance of a star,
grant in your mercy
that we, who know you already by faith,

What can I do this week to come to know God better?

Online safety review for the new year
Take some time this month to review your family’s online safety.
Make sure you have strong passwords in place, and that your security settings are updated. Check where you have passwords stored as well — children who are tech savvy can easily access inappropriate materials on smart TVs and devices where
passwords do not have to be entered. Consider installing
accountability software on any devices that your children access.
Software like Covenant Eyes or other options can keep your child from visiting any inappropriate or forbidden sites. For more tips, request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Revisit Online Safety Practices” at
lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
