THE
FUTURE
4 THE NEW MA S TER S E MB A IN BUSINESS S TRA TE G Y , PS Y CHOL OG Y®, CREA TIVITY®IT IS NOT ONLY stagnant brands and companies that may become worthless and irrelevant in record time in today’s turbulent business environment.
Top managers, who cling to textbooks, models and solutions from the past and keep repeating themselves, may also become obsolete.
Top managers of the future must be a sort of Emotional Vikings – who fearlessly roam the world for new opportunities; but at the same time they must possess the aesthetics, empathy and sensitivity required in the business universe of the 21st centu-ry. Furthermore, they must be exceptionally capable of delivering high-quality, excel-lent-value results in a timely manner.
The top leaders of the future must be dynamic, courageous, aggressive, challenging and searching – always pursuing added value, better competitiveness and business results for the company. However, they must also be emotive, intuitive, creative and humble to be able to navigate the company in the unpredictable business environment and lead the organization under seemingly contradictory circumstances.
If you want to be a CEO NOW, the time has come to reflect on how you can differen-tiate yourself in a positive way and qualify as a top leader.

8 THE NEW MA S TER S E MB A IN BUSINESS S TRA TE G Y , PS Y CHOL OG Y®, CREA TIVITY®Institutions that offer MBA programmes and business leaders alike have many habitual and traditional notions about MBAs. The easiest thing for everyone to do is to proceed as usual, so that is what most people do. Business Institute has offered EMBA training for more than 15 years. ”Useful Education” has been our motto throughout the entire time. We want to provide leadership training that works for the participant and for the partnering organization, and that means that we must constantly relate to and adapt to the practical reality that managers and companies operate within.
Since the turn of this millennium, the conditions for conducting successful business have changed dramatically, and there has been a significant increase in the demands of top leaders’ competences and mindset. The transparent and turbulent surplus society has transformed business into a new game with new rules, which requires new relevant MBA programmes with targeted training of top leaders of the future.
Today, business models, brands, products and work processes can be devalued in record time. New technologies, societal trends and, not least, unorthodox brands and products can obliterate a business in a very short time.
The capabilities that are required to be a competent business leader have changed dramatically. Skills, such as best practice, traditional management and simple innovation, no longer suffice.
“The New Masters” – the EMBA programmes in Business Strategy, Business Psychology and Business Creativity – combine the three disciplines during a year of joint basic studies and joint assignments in the final thesis year. We call this unique combination MBA3 since it provides the participants with competences that will enable them to solve the following essential leadership assignments:
TO NAVIGATE THE COMPANY IN A TURBULENT BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
TO LEAD THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH OFTEN CONTRADICTORY CIRCUMSTANCES

By Dean Lars Ib
THE QUOTE IS BY EINSTEIN, but it also provides the answer to what could bring us out of the crisis that has shrouded most of the world since 2008.
The world is not black and white, and thinking in opposites blinds us to the options that are available in between the opposites. In order to succeed, today’s business leader must be able to juggle several contradictory ideas and, without hesitation, generate new innova-tive solutions that combine elements from A and B in order to reach solution C.
This ability to adapt will become a vital competitive parameter in the future. The current busi-ness challenges cannot be solved using the either/or mindset of the industrial society. Such thinking is far too rigid to lead in a world where changes happen at an accelerated speed.
Business Institute aims to be a time current talent
develop-ment environdevelop-ment within radical business thinking and
holis-tic management – and a catalyst for leaders to apply their
knowledge and experience in novel ways. This is the
back-ground for the completely transformed EMBA programme
“The New Masters”.
We are one of the pioneers in EMBA training in Denmark, and we see it as our principal duty to challenge leaders and urge them to look inwards in order to change business strategies and mental models. We take our responsibility seriously by offering the partici-pants realistic courses that enable them to think, feel and act.

CEO
NOW
T H I S I S W H AT I T TA K E S
We are the first EMBA provider in Denmark to integrate three different EMBA programmes and thus expose business leaders to a broader, more in-depth and more dynamic approach to leadership. This approach is vital and enables you to incorporate your knowledge and experience of the past, apply it to the proper context in terms of current challenges, and make your assumptions about the future when your decisions will have an impact.
We are convinced that leaders need
to move beyond their comfort zone
in order to seriously change and
develop the competences that are
required in the 21
st
century.
In order to feel comfortable with the speed of change that is imposed on us by society, filling the toolbox with various management theories and models no longer suffices. Lead-ership is a trade that also requires that you grasp the relationship between theories and, not least, recognise their limitations.
Leadership is a discipline that has to be learned and that has to stand the test through practical everyday activities. Business Institute conducts annual surveys to determine the challenges that Danish business leaders believe to be predominant. Surveys show that the most urgent challenge for today’s business leaders is to execute the strategies they have developed for growth and prosperity. In other words, more action and less talk, but the action must be properly thought out with clear, long-term goals.
Successful execution means following a strategy all the way through. However, no individu-al has so much savvy about leadership that he or she can complete the assignment individu-alone. Good management means creating results through others, and good followers do more than just obey orders. Through your performance as a leader you become a role model and motivate your employees – because, naturally, the best workers follow the best leaders. The important challenges we face today cannot be solved with the same mindset that cre-ated them. Therefore it is your duty as a leader to recognise that your choice of an EMBA education will enable you to think critically and make wise, deliberate and correct decisions.

ENVIRONMENT
Business Institute’s mission is to grow and become the leading talent development insti-tution in Scandinavia within holistic leadership and creative business thinking. Hence, the learning environment at Business Institute cultivates vision, insight and empathy as well as audacity, creativity and drive – competences that contribute to strengthening the ability to make valuable and meaningful – but also competitive – development and management decisions for the company.
We have high ambitions on behalf of the participants. We want them to apply their new competences and innovative mindset to institute a radical change for the better for society, the market, brands and companies.
Business Institute’s EMBA programmes consider three dimensions:
• The participant
• The participant’s company
• The participant’s family
1 6 THE NEW MA S TER S E MB A IN BUSINESS S TRA TE G Y , PS Y CHOL OG Y®, CREA TIVITY®Business Institute combines holism and progressivity, not only in the course content, but also in our individual approach to the participants. The learning environment at Business Institute can be summarized in the following six points:
CHALLENGE
One of the major focal points of “The New Masters” - EMBA programmes is the challenge approach. Being able to meet challenges is a vital necessity in the turbulent business environment. But we also challenge the participants at a personal level. We put heavy demands on personal and professional effort and regularly challenge the participant’s and the partnering company’s ambitions.
PRESENCE
We consider it one of our principal duties to focus on the participant’s and the partnering company’s desires, development needs and professional ambitions, which enables us to play an active role as mentor and ensure a fundamentally beneficial development through-out the course of the studies.
OPENNESS
Openness, curiosity and reflection are the core elements of our educational principles. We apply the same philosophy when dealing with the participants so that they can challenge themselves, personally and professionally, in a stable and safe environment.
PROFESSIONALISM
The most competent teachers and consultants from Danish and foreign universities and business schools have been hand-picked for our faculty to guarantee highly qualified and research-based instruction in all educational areas.
EDUCATION
Through close collaboration and affiliation with our instructors we assure an educational structure with professional and personal benefits. Our unique teaching principles, “Won-dering and Wan“Won-dering” are explained in detail on page 18.
INDIVIDUALISATION
We work closely together with the participant and the partnering organization in order to ensure optimal transfer of the programme content to the partnering organization and the participant. Throughout the studies at Business Institute, the participant can engage in a personal “Tracking & Testing Programme”, which is a tool for individual goal orientation of each programme and a personal reflection tool. stud-ies is conveyed optimally to the partnering organization.
Business Institute works closely together with the participant and the partnering business in order to ensure that the content of the programme is conveyed optimally to the company and to the participant.
Throughout the EMBA programme the participant has the possibility of working with a personal “Tracking and Testing Programme”. The idea is for it to serve as a tool for individual guidance and personal reflection throughout the programme.
The “Tracking and Testing Programme” consists of two parts. One encompasses four conversations during the studies; the other is a personal reflection segment. The two elements are described below.
1. FOUR STUDY CONVERSATIONS WITH A PROFESSIONAL SPARRING PARTNER.
The objective of this part of the programme is to ensure that the participant is focused on the individually defined and desired benefit throughout the entire training, thus also enabling the company to attain the desired benefit from the employee’s learning. This segment also serves as a main theme throughout the programme, from the first written assignment to the master thesis.
Practically speaking, the purpose of this part of the programme is:
1. to align expectations, desires and goals for the participant and the participating company
2. to ensure that the more comprehensive assignments throughout the study meet the participant’s and the company’s learning objectives
3. to ensure that the participant establishes an appropriate and constructive study routine
4. to ensure that all aspects of the programme remain on track
2. PERSONAL REFLECTION

WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE
Being a courageous and visionary business leader in the 21
stcentury is not an easy task. There are no universal recipes or
swift solutions. In often contradictory situations the leader is
constantly looking for the right content to create his or her
own X-factor universe. This means that the leader must create
a foundation for realising their own management X-factor.
The first year of the programme provides a holistic approach to the diversity and
the potential that exist, even under seemingly contradictory circumstances. The second year enables the participants to immerse themselves in various master disciplines. The choice should be based on the participant’s current, but also the anticipated, future leadership role.
Here are some aspects to consider when choosing your branch of study:
• Do you want to develop your capacity for strategic thinking and analysis and expand your analytical toolbox? Then the EMBA in Business Strategy is probably the right choice. • Do you want to create results through others and do you want to improve your in-sight into how to enter value-creating interaction with your fellow employees? Then the
EMBA in Business Psychology® should probably be your top priority.
• Is your company in the process of or is it considering working with strategic innova-tion that puts great demands on the ability to change internally and externally? Then you should possibly consider the EMBA in Business Creativity®.

> EMBA IN BUSINESS STRATEGY
This Master degree is directed towards anyone whose work focuses on the strategic and business-related challenges of the company, including keeping up to date on developments in national and international markets and being able to identify new potential for growth.
EMBA in Business Strategy is relevant for business leaders who want to increase their strategic level of reflection, focus on mindset, analysis and decision proposals. In this programme the participants will receive the required foundation and an in-depth under-standing of the national and international dimensions. This foundation is created when the participants transform theory into practice and thereby learn to perceive and under-stand the overall contexts. Strategic analyses of companies are part of the programme. By focusing on business economics, the participants learn to think holistically and in leadership contexts.
> EMBA IN BUSINESS PSYCHOLOGY®
This Master degree is geared towards individuals who are working on creating results through other people:
• The visionary business leader who has realized that personal success depends on working on personal leadership competences
• The ambitious change agent who is in charge of complex organizational development processes and who knows that definitive success depends on constructive handling of the human X-factor.
The EMBA in Business Psychology® is an intensive and challenging programme that links management theories and psychology. Business Psychology emerges at the crossroads between these two knowledge disciplines. The programme has a research-based and interdisciplinary approach which, in an innovative fashion, links psychology with business in order to promote results in a complex and demanding work environment. The relevant disciplines are leadership, strategy, organization and HR, which, in this EMBA programme, gains an additional dimension, as it is viewed from a psychological perspective.
> EMBA IN BUSINESS CREATIVITY®
This Master degree is for individuals who want to acquire the competency ‘business creativity’ and use it as a decisive means in the pursuit of business results.
In this day and age business models, brands, products and work processes can become irrelevant in record time. The ability to develop competitive business models, brands and products is absolutely crucial. The top leader’s creative business competences and ability to manage creative people, processes and cultures, are thus of vital importance to conduct successful and profitable business in a turbulent business environment.
THE MBA
JOURNEY
ADMISSION
The prerequisite for admission to Business Institute’s “The New Masters” - EMBA pro-grammes is a medium to long tertiary education and a minimum of three years’ expe-rience at mid-level management. Assessment and admission discussions are conducted regularly. Any exemption from the above guidelines is considered on a case-by-case basis.
THE TARGET GROUP
The EMBA programmes are geared towards ambitious leaders who have the desire and energy to complete a targeted and intensive education. All participants must have several years of practical leadership experience and now be keen on improving their competences with strategy, leadership and innovation in order to remain an attractive asset for their current or future companies.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES
The systematic and targeted recruiting procedure assures that you possess the re-quired competences, both on a personal and a professional level, to be able to meet the future challenges. The thorough admission process also ensures that your fellow participants are ambitious leaders like you, and that their competences match the challenges. Furthermore, your company will be confident that it has made a meaningful investment in your MBA studies, which will have a genuine impact on the company.
THE STUDIES
“The New Masters” - EMBA programmes are scheduled to last approximately two years structured in four semesters. The total work load corresponds to 60 ECTS points. At the conclusion of each semester the subject modules and the projects will be evalu-ated. All evaluations must receive a passing grade. Furthermore, the participants are required to submit a written paper, which must receive a passing grade.
The fundamental educational concept behind the EMBA studies at Business Institute is that the participant reads relevant books and articles prior to each scheduled module. This preparation is the foundation for the theme-and problem-orientated instruction during the dialogue-focused instructional meetings.
The modules are intended as a combination of lectures, exercises, discussions and guest lectures. At the conclusion of each scheduled meeting, the participants are given an assignment that must be completed in groups of four to six individuals. The EMBA modules are conducted at Business Institute on Thursdays and Fridays – a total of 13 times, evenly distributed over the two-year duration of the programmes. In the interven-ing periods, virtual instruction is given at Business Institute’s distance learninterven-ing facilities. Here, it is possible to work with fellow participants on written workshop assignments and to expand your insight into the academic material. Instruction is primarily in Dan-ish, but the assigned literature is in both English and in Danish.

This module outlines the classic and post-modern management theories and the op-portunities, and limitations, of the various approaches in different cultures and contexts. How do you continue to adapt and develop the management foundation and the ap-proach of the company? How do you handle the paradoxes of leadership and man-agement, power and weakness, and an incredibly complex society? How do you solve inter-human dynamic issues while focusing on the primary mission of the organization? The module focuses on the dynamics between individuals, groups, teams, the organiza-tion and society, and the participants learn to be in charge of processes and tasks in these multifaceted situations.
9) TALENT MANAGEMENT
The “Talent Management” module explores the difference in leadership at various levels and zeroes in on certain typical pitfalls that could derail a leader’s career. Examples of how to contribute to the creation of a leadership pipeline through active talent management are provided. Through an intense mixture of brief presentations and case studies, the participants will obtain a research-based overview that is directly related to their own organization.
10) MIXED GENERATION LEADERSHIP
The leadership concept presented in this module cuts across the modern and post-mod-ern paradigms. Core leadership elements are combined and form the basis for under-standing the demands that are put on management, across generations, in an often contradictory environment. The essential activity in the module includes exercises that illustrate how paradoxes can be a mental framework for making management decisions in one’s own organizations across generations.
