OUR START TO THE YEAR
The start to our year has been amazing and I would like to thank every family for their support and trust so far in 2021. Please be assured that as a staff we are, as always, 100% dedicated to your children.
Some of our Prep students are still finding their smiles in the mornings. There have been some other small blips in areas as well. However, I am finding it difficult to remember such a positive start for our school. Our student leaders are leading the way and being great role models for all. Our other students are following them with smiles on their faces. Today I was invited to a meeting with some of our student leaders (Ben, Pria and Max) who
presented their top ideas for improving our school. Stay tuned! We are however, about to hit a bump based on our Day 8 numbers.

Starting the school year is always done with great care, consideration and planning with the aim of beginning the year in the smoothest fashion.
We are driven however by the student count on the 8th day of school (today). This student count provides us with the final number of class teachers that we are allocated for the school year. From this number we then adjust the classes to match the number of students in each year level.
The reason this is not an exact science is because we have families enrol in our school that we were not expecting and others unexpectedly leave our school for a variety of reasons.
2021 has been more unpredictable than ever, especially with the impact of the local rental market.
We have had multiple families forced to move from the area due to their rental house being sold and other families who want to live in Bargara and enrol in our school unable to do so because they can not find local accommodation.
This combination of housing pressures and other factors has seen our numbers change between year levels and across the school for the start of 2021.
The end result is that our Day 8 student numbers are 11 students lower than expected. This means that we fell 4 students short of being allocated 16 class teachers for the school year.
As we moved through the week we were able to predict our final number and as such, we started working on some plans for the changes. I have set some of these out and the timelines below.
We are working towards Prep classes having VERY LITTLE change in this reshuffle. We are able to do this because our strong Prep numbers have established good class sizes. It is also important that our youngest members of school have the smoothest start possible.
We can all appreciate that any movement that may occur over the next week may result in some anxiousness or even disappointment by students. However, the changes are unavoidable and because we have so much learning ahead of us in 2021, it is vital we get the foundations right.

This may mean that your child may move class and teacher. Should this occur, please rest assured that the decision has been given careful consideration. Whilst we will be happy to listen to concerns arising from the changes (we sometimes miss important aspects), I can not guarantee any request as I need to balance the best interests for the whole school.

Swimming is a part of our PE curriculum.
It is expected that all students (who do not have a valid medical reason) participate in swimming lessons.
Year 1-2 swimming will commence on Thursday 18th February and will
continue every Thursday for 6 weeks.

STUDENT BANKING PROGRAM
DO YOU HAVE TIME? WOULD YOU LIKE TO ASSIST?
We are looking for parent volunteers to help with our weekly Student banking every Tuesday.
The process includes:
Checking deposit slip with the cash, giving incentive tokens for each deposit.
Collating deposit slips and reconciling with the cash taken.
Completing a bank deposit slip and quick deposit bag. This process usually takes approximately an hour and a half. No previous experience is necessary, the administration team will give you full instruction. We are possibly looking for 3 or 4 parents who could be puton a roster as we will require two people to be present.
Hi wonderful Bargara School Community! I hope you have all had a great week back at school.
It has been wonderful having breakfast club back this week! The year 6 student leaders volunteering have come up with some great ideas to make breakfast club a little more interesting this year!
We have put up decorations and now have a DJ to provide us some music to listen to while we eat. Please feel free to place comments in our suggestion box with what you would like to see different in breakfast club for this year. We are open to ideas!

Strings every WEDNESDAY with Ms Christensen
Lessons are held during class times in the Helping Hands building.
String Orchestra rehearsals (not for beginners) will commence Week 3, Wed 10th February. Rehearsal starts at 8.10am and are held in the music
room.
The School Tuckshop currently operates 8:15am to 1:45pm every THURSDAY and FRIDAY.

Throughout the year, a number of sports trials are held for students to gain selection in a Bundaberg District School team. This allows students to participate at Wide Bay Regional School Sports trials which could lead to a State Carnival and the possibility of Nationals.
Miss Phillips will have nomination forms for students who are interested in participating in these trials. A calendar of these trial dates will be put on the noticeboard near the office, on our website and QSchools app.
As information on each trial is sent through Miss Phillips will inform the students.
At present Miss Phillips has forms for AFL, Swimming and Softball & Golf. It should be noted that students must show a high level of skill and knowledge of the game and preferably be playing the sport at a club level to be nominated for these trials.
Preference is also often given to 11 and 12 year olds unless there are specific 10 Year old events (e.g. cross country, athletics, rugby league and swimming.)
Dear parents,
Some of our older classes are about to start a unit in Design and Technologies where we use electrical circuits in our designs. To help us learn about how things work, we plan to pull apart some discarded devices. Do you have any electrical devices at home that you plan to throw away?
What we would like:
simple appliances that have components including switches, motors, lights, speakers
small devices that can be easily handledExamples:
kitchen: toaster, blender, mixer
bathroom: hair drier, electric shaver, curling wand
workshop: drill, sander
other: motorised toy, fan, music system with moving parts (record/cassette/CD player)
What we don’t want:
large or heavy devices
devices with mostly digital electronics such as computers, electronic games
video screens such as TVs or computer monitors
anything that has glass components or sharp bladesSafety:
Part of the students’ learning in this unit is how to use tools and materials safely so they will be guided in how to manage any risks.
Before sending any discarded devices, please do the following:
If the device has batteries, please remove them

Assemblies - Whole school assembly occurs each Monday afternoon at 2:10pm. Parents are invited to sit at the back of the parade and listen to information being given.
