Blackboard Learn™
Much more than a course management system, Blackboard Learn is the platform for engaging and assessing learners of every type – both in and beyond the classroom. It’s software shaped by a global community of practice that closely serves millions of learners.
Blackboard Learn keeps students actively engaged, enables you to assess their learning, and is flexible enough to meet both your present and future needs. In other words, it’s technology that powers student achievement.
But, effectively engaging your students is easier said than done. Blackboard Learn includes active collaboration tools that combine formal instruction and informal learning with shared content both inside, and beyond the classroom. Your users will have one-stop access to student services and
coursework whenever and wherever they’re needed.
It is also challenging to build a sustainable culture of inquiry and evidence. Grades and retention are easily measured, but assessing learning outcomes in more meaningful ways is far more difficult. Blackboard Learn connects the day-to-day activities of teachers and students in a single system. With a broad suite of tools including portfolios, testing, surveys and artifact collection, we support the entire cycle of assessment and evaluation with multiple measures of student progress.
However, even the most effective academic technology needs to be tailored to fit your needs. With our open architecture, Blackboard Learn can be extended through integration with other vital systems on your campus or around the world to give your users a seamless and personalized learning experience.
…engage learners
Blackboard Learn provides the tools to create engaging and effective online courses that meet the needs of all of learners.
…while assessing learning at every level
Blackboard Learn extends the software you already use for teaching and learning to engage your community in assessment practices.
…with an open platform you can build on.
Its flexible and open architecture ensures you can deliver accessible education to learners in the locations and on the devices they prefer.
Course Delivery
Do you feel pressure to deliver increasingly personalized ways to teach and learn?
Do you have
an LMS that doesn’t integrate well with your other systems?
Are you struggling to keep non-traditional students engaged?
Course delivery is at the heart of Blackboard Learn. We provide the core teaching and learning tools you need to support the delivery of online courses – from supplemental to hybrid to fully online. More than just enabling an online course environment, we give your instructors the ability to create powerful learning content using a variety of Web-based applications.
Our course delivery technology enables you to:
Create and deliver effective content with a Web 2.0 interface
Customize learning paths with adaptive release technology that provides content access based on dynamic factors
Support student interaction through discussions, journals, blogs and group work all in a single platform
Enable social learning with a single space for group activities that centralizes all group communication, activity, file sharing, reflection and assessment
Evaluate student learning with a rich and powerful array of question types that enable you to create targeted assessments based on content and pedagogy
Monitor activity and progress by aggregating and filtering key course information so students and educators can see what’s new and what needs attention through the lens of fresh activity
Integrate external learning tools with Blackboard Building Blocks™ or other learning environments such as Moodle and Sakai
Get your students the information they need wherever they are by integrating with the Facebook® and iPhone® platforms
Community Engagement
Are you having difficulty engaging students beyond the classroom?
Do you need to find different ways to communicate with diverse constituencies?
Does your LMS enable the social learning technology that today’s student’s
demand?
Blackboard Learn builds on our course delivery technology by supporting engagement of your entire community beyond the classroom. Simply by extending the Blackboard Learn™ platform with our community engagement technology, you will automatically have the ability to build vibrant online communities. You’ll engage your users with convenient online access to cross-institutional learning opportunities and student services around the clock.
Our community engagement technology enables you to:
Target information and services to diverse constituencies through flexible role structure, content and branding
Create communities by enabling a myriad of different spaces with customized activities and roles that stimulate engagement outside of the classroom
Empower programs and committees by providing secure, familiar workspaces where all members can collaborate and share resources easily
Bring student clubs and groups together by offering advanced collaboration spaces that are intuitive, easy and familiar
Retain more students by giving your retention initiatives a channel to target at-risk students and provide specialized content only to those students who need it
Content Management
Are your educators spending considerable time updating or recreating learning
content within their courses?
Do your instructors have easy ways to collaborate on files?
Does your LMS have integrated workflow capabilities?
Blackboard Learn provides powerful learning content management capabilities that enable users to store and manage all their course and group assets in one place. By providing a secure central space in your Blackboard system, content of all types can be managed, updated (or iterated) and shared.
Our community engagement technology enables you to:
Manage multiple courses by organizing digital resources in a managed centralized repository instead of duplicating across courses
Empower educators and students to share information and resources securely with a flexible folder and file permissions structure that can be managed by both the administrator and individual users
Support peer collaboration with built-in workflows that ensures better document management through versioning and trackingGain institution-wide visibility by enabling individual units to map objectives to broader institutional goals and standards

Your students and faculty are demanding a highly-available e-Learning environment. However, the costs of running a data center can be daunting. Blackboard Managed Hosting can help. Through economies of scale, we offer hosting services at a lower cost than those associated with purchasing hardware and software separately and hiring and training IT staff to manage the application.
Reduce Your Risk
We monitor and maintain all client servers in Tier Four datacenters designed with reliability and high availability in mind. Each site has connections to the Internet via multiple service providers, a redundant network infrastructure, and multiple levels of power backup. A dedicated security team regularly monitors the system for unauthorized activity, and periodic audits of the datacenter ensure that standard practices are in place. And we deploy a three-tier data backup strategy in the event that the system goes down for any reason.
Gain Operational Freedom
Each hosted system is maintained on a Blackboard-managed server. You have complete control over all content and design for your e-Learning system as well as any customizations.
Support Growth
We provide options from small deployments to large complex environments and everything in between. Additional bandwidth and storage can be purchased as needed, user bands can be added as demand increases, and a variety of value-added services are available for larger deployments.
Financial Flexibility
Your pricing plan will be simple and affordable, so each product offers a simple plan without costly per-student fees. Additional service units can be purchased a pay-as-you-grow model.

Blackboard Mobile Learn™
The Blackboard Mobile team is dedicated to providing the best possible experience to users’ enhanced mobile devices, all while reaching the greatest population of constituents on and off campus. The Blackboard Mobile Team has delivered Blackboard Mobile Learn to more than 600 institutions nationwide and employs a dedicated development team focused on each major mobile platform. We have a systematic project management-based system and dedicated business unit based in San Francisco that focuses solely on the mobile needs of our customers.
Blackboard Mobile Learn 3.0 Features
Blackboard Mobile Learn 3.0 currently supports much of your Blackboard Learn content, tools and functionality. The user sees the same Blackboard Learn features, enhanced for use in a native application. Currently we support bi-directional functionality on Announcements (instructors only), Blogs, Journals, Tasks, and Discussions.
Some of the key features include:
Push Notifications: Make it easy for students to stay on top of critical course activity. Students can elect to receive automatic, personalized notifications on their mobile devices that will connect them with course content in Blackboard Mobile Learn as it becomes available. Mobile Tests: Instructors can use the Mobile Test Creator to easily create mobile-compatible tests. Students have the flexibility to take these tests either through Blackboard Learn, or via a beautiful interface on their Android and iOS devices.
Announcements: Assignment due? Class cancelled? This is the place where instructors go to post the news students need to know now. Students have instant, on-the-go access to the latest announcements, and instructors can post announcements from their mobile devices.
Grades: Students can find out how they did on their latest test or homework assignment by using the Grades tool. They'll even be sent a Push Notification as soon as an item in their course has been graded. No more waiting around wondering if a Grade has been posted. Tasks: Instructors can help students track and manage the progress of various tasks, from turning in homework assignments to midterm reminders to purchasing textbooks. The tasks tool allows students to mark when they’ve started a task and when it’s complete.

Technology is a strategic enabler for higher education. As these technologies are used more extensively to teach on campus and online, the level of support demanded by faculty, staff and students is growing. On most campuses, the once, widely accepted 9-5 service model is no longer meeting the needs of today’s students. They demand convenience, increased channels of support and more availability. For an institution’s IT department, meeting such demands is increasingly difficult due to reduced resources, declining budgets and limited self-service options.
Blackboard‘s comprehensive help desk solution provides a flexible, cost-effective customer service model designed to meets the unique needs of your students, faculty, and staff – 24/7/365. As an extension of your on-site team, our self-service options and live advisors enable you to:
