The second quarter of 2012 saw your credit union continue to deepen relationships with you, our members. We continue to lend money at a record pace, which is an indication that the local economy may be improving quicker even though the national news may not always be as positive. We are confident, because you are utilizing our credit union for more and more products and services, that you see how valuable the cooperative is to you. For that we are continually thankful.
The national economy is still very sensitive to any news, good or bad. However the trend line continues to be positive which is good. The second quarter saw your credit union continue to grow its capital, as you, our members, continued to trust us as your financial partner. We continue to make loans for the things you need and want, provide a safe and secure place to put your savings, and continue to deliver relevant products and services that will help you weather the economic storms we deal with daily. We want you to know that we are here to serve you and to assist you in every way we can to maneuver through these difficult times. We never forget that we exist to serve you, our members.
As summer approaches AFCU will continue to pursue several innovative products and services to improve your financial life. From making deposits with your smart phone, to using that same phone to send money to friends, family and merchants, your credit union is constantly researching products and services that will make it easier for you to do business with us.
Did you know that your credit union checking account can: • Protect you (CardLock)
• Notify you (eAlerts) • Gratify You (Debit Rewards)
And oh by the way, did we tell you all these services are provided at no cost to you?
We are also looking into revamping our mobile banking access. We are exploring putting everything you would ever need into one application where accessing all the financial services AFCU has to offer would be just one click away. More on this later in the year as we determine the best solution for you, our members.
And, as a reminder, have you gone green yet? During the first quarter, we converted most of our regular U.S. Postal mail notifications to a more environmentally friendly method. Currently, you can opt in for notices to be sent via email. In the months ahead, you will be able to choose email, text or a phone call to the phone of your choice. All of this is geared toward providing a quicker, more responsive notification, as well as eliminating the environmentally unfriendly and costly paper notices. Watch your statements, email and service centers for more information on when these additional changes will be implemented. This will make it easier for you and allow your credit union to be more timely and efficient in doing business with you. This also has the added benefit of saving the membership money; money that will be used to provide additional products and services for you, our members.
If you would like to join the green movement and receive your monthly statements electronically, as well as notices, AFCU can provide this service to you. You will receive your statements and notices sooner and not have the worry of having your financial information being lost in the mail. Just call, visit a service center or go to AFCU.org to go green today!
Did you know that your credit union offers student loans? As your student prepares to go to college in August, check out our Student Choice Loan program online or next time you visit. It may be just what you need to ensure your student has the finances to reach their goals.
As the economy continues to improve, the management team and your board of directors are thankful for your continued and increasing use of our cooperative. You, the members, are the reason we exist. As we look to the future, you can be assured that we will consistently strive to exceed your expectations, continue to deliver innovative products and services, and most importantly, we will always try and improve your financial lives in everything we do.
May God continue to bless you and yours!

Free Credit Reports to Consumers…
No Strings Attached!
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act gives consumers access to one free copy of their credit report annually from each of the three nationwide credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
To order your free credit report, go to annualcreditreport.com or call 877-322-8228. You may also request your free annual credit report by mail by completing the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. You can print the form at ftc.gov/credit.
Don’t be fooled by companies offering to provide you with a free credit report if you sign up for services or purchase products. You are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus each year…no purchase necessary! We suggest that you spread out your free credit report requests approximately every four months throughout the year so you can guard against identity theft on an ongoing basis instead of receiving all three reports at the same time.

Market volatility. Low interest rates. Retirement risks. All of these “headwinds” are making it tougher than ever to know where to invest your retirement savings. Given today’s turbulent economy, many consumers are considering a return to a more conservative approach. Is the time right for you to return to conservative investing?
Call today to make your appointment to meet with Financial Advisor Mike Van Bokhoven with Arkansas Federal Financial Services to find out more about the challenges of today’s economy and how conservative investments like certificates of deposit (CDs) and annuities can help get your financial plan back on track. You’ll learn the answers to your investment questions, including:
• How can conservative investments help address today’s economic risks? • What are the differences between CDs and annuities?
• What are the different types and advantages of annuities? • How do I decide which conservative investment is right for me? For a no-cost, no-obligation appointment, call Nancy at 501-533-2101. All guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of the issuer. Representative is not a tax advisor. For information regarding your specific tax situation, please consult a tax professional.

Nondeposit investment and insurance products are not federally insured, involve investment risk, may lose value and are not obligations of or guaranteed by the financial institution. CBSI is under contract with the financial institution, through the financial services program, to make securities available to members. There are distinct differences between fixed annuities and certificates of deposit (CDs). Most CDs are considered short-term investments, while annuities are considered long-short-term investments. CDs are insured by the federal government, either through FDIC or NCUA. The investment in a fixed annuity is guaranteed by an insurance company. Like CDs, annuities have a penalty for early surrender, and withdrawals taken before age 59_ from an annuity may also be subject to a 10% federal tax penalty. Insurance products are issued by CUNA Mutual Insurance Society.
