Report on Race Meeting held at Morphettville Parks Racecourse by the South Australian Jockey Club on Saturday, 25 April 2015

--- RACE 1 : RSL ANZAC APPEAL HANDICAP - 2400 metres

REMORSE (R. Stewart) was slow to begin.

BREDLIGN (NZ) (B. Claridge) jumped away awkwardly and contacted SIX FOOT (E. Finnegan).

Approaching the 1900 metres GO DREAMING (C. Lindop) shifted in across the running of NOW AND ZEN (D. Yendall), which had to be momentarily steadied. Shortly thereafter BREDLIGN (NZ) (B. Claridge) shifted in across the running of GO DREAMING, which had to be steadied. C. Lindop was reprimanded and reminded of her obligations when shifting ground in future. B. Claridge was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

BAKLAVA BOY (NZ) (D. Tourneur) over-raced for a number of strides in the vicinity of the 1900 metres.

SIX FOOT (E. Finnegan) raced wide without cover in the early stages of the event.

E. Finnegan, the rider of SIX FOOT, reported her mount felt flat during the event and performed disappointingly. SIX FOOT was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to the lame in the near hind leg. Mr. T. McEvoy, the Trainer of SIX FOOT, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting the gelding for a future trial or race.

RACE 1 : RSL ANZAC APPEAL HANDICAP - 2400 metres (Cont’d)

SPRAY TAN was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

WIZZA’S MAGIC was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a lower than expected recovery.

RACE 2 : THE GALLIPOLI 1915 PERPETUAL TROPHY - 1950 metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes owing to DESDANE, which lost its off fore plate en route to the start, requiring Farrier attention on arrival at the barriers. DESDANE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who ruled the mare fit to race. STAR OF JEUNE (K. Brooks) was slow to begin.

DESDANE (B. Claridge) over-raced in the early stages of the race.

ALLEZ TARA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 3 : WILLIAM HILL SA SPRINT SERIES HANDICAP - 1000 metres

FAB FEVOLA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be suffering a mild form of thumps.

RISEN FROM DOUBT was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 : SCHWEPPES SA SPRINT SERIES HANDICAP - 1250 metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately three minutes owing to CASINO WIZARD proving fractious and rearing in the barriers after being loaded. CASINO WIZARD was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who ruled the gelding fit to race. C. Lindop was examined by the First Care Medical personnel who ruled her fit to fulfil her engagement. CASINO WIZARD (C. Lindop) shifted in abruptly shortly after the start tightening AURUMCERT (H. Coffey) onto SANDHILL WARRIOR (A. Herrmann), resulting in AURUMCERT losing its position.

CASINO WIZARD (C. Lindop) raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. IT AND A BIT (J. Bowditch) raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres SANDHILL WARRIOR (A. Herrmann) improved onto the heels of UNDERESTIMATION (M. Neilson) and had to be restrained for several strides. DEL PRADO (D. Tourneur) laid in under pressure in the straight.

H. Coffey, the rider of AURUMCERT, explained that owing to suffering interference shortly after the start, he was unable to take up a position mid-field as intended.

UNDERESTIMATION and SANDHILL WARRIOR were examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to this race C. Lindop was again examined by the First Care Medical personnel who ruled her unfit to fulfil her remaining engagements.

RACE 5 : HOLDFAST INSURANCE CITY OF ADELAIDE HANDICAP - 1400 metres

Inside the 1100 metres METAPHORICAL (H. Coffey) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a number of strides.

METAPHORICAL (H. Coffey) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

SWINGING ARMS was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Mr. S. Trenowden, the Trainer of SWINGING ARMS, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting the gelding for a future trial or race.

NITE ROCKER, and LIGHT IT UP were examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 : H C NITSCHKE STAKES - 1400 metres

The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes owing to GRANCABRIO refusing to load. Stewards withdrew GRANCABRIO at 3.39 pm. Mr. L. Kennewell, the Trainer of GRANCABRIO, was advised the gelding would be required to load without delay in an Official Barrier Trial prior to accepting for a future race.

LEONFORTE (M. Neilson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out onto ACTUARIAT (D. Tourneur), which was taken out onto BURGUNDY BLAST (S. Price), resulting in that gelding’s hindquarters being turned.

BONITA ICE (A. Herrmann) raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres PEPPER THE PIN (R. Stewart) shifted in and inconvenienced THESPINIS (T. Pannell), which had to be steadied. R. Stewart was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

LEONFORTE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be suffering thumps. First Aid was administered.

LOTION was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

MAGIC BOY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 : QUAYCLEAN CHAIRMAN’S STAKES - 2020 metres

(run on Morphettville track)

Mr. J. O’Connor, the Trainer of BEAU’S MY BOY, advised Stewards he would instruct Apprentice S. Carr not to lead in the event and settle with cover if possible.

MAYSOOR, which kicked a fence in the mounting enclosure, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival at the start who ruled the colt fit to race.

The start of this race was delayed approximately three minutes owing to THERMOGENIC proving fractious in the barriers and rearing after being loaded. THEREMOGENIC was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who ruled the colt fit to race.

RACE 7 : QUAYCLEAN CHAIRMAN’S STAKES - 2020 metres (Cont’d)

(run on Morphettville track)

On jumping away THERMOGENIC (D. Tourneur) and MAKO MAGIC (J. Maund) contacted when both horses shifted ground.

VALDEZ (S. Price) and TURBO STREET (M. Neilson) contacted on jumping away.

THE NARCISSIST (J. Allen) pulled hard in the early stages of the event and in the vicinity of the 1600 metres rolled in and brushed the running rail for a short distance.

OCTOBER DATE (S. Cahill) raced keenly in the middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 1600 metres MAGICOOL (J. Bowditch) was tightened for running room, had to be checked and lost its position when racing to the inside of TURBO STREET (M. Neilson), as that gelding was taken in by OCTOBER DATE (S. Cahill). S. Cahill was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under AR137(a) in that he shifted ground when insufficiently clear and was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday, 26 April and to conclude at midnight on Wednesday, 6 May 2015; a period of four (4) meetings.

BEAU’S MY BOY (S. Carr) raced wide without cover in the middle stages of the event. TIME WALKER (P. Gatt) laid in, in the straight.

MAGICOOL (J. Bowditch) was disappointed for clear running inside the 200 metres for a short distance.

J. Bowditch, the rider of MAGICOOL, explained that owing to the manner in which the gelding began, and despite his early encouragement, he was unable to take up a more forward position as intended and after straightening he had difficulty obtaining clear running at various stages.

J. Toeroek, the rider of CHU CHU CHARLIE, reported the gelding over-raced in the early stages of the event.

N. Callow, the rider of LUCQUES, reported the colt appeared not to be suited to the underfoot conditions. LUCQUES was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow T. Baker, the rider of the second placegetter MAYSOOR, and Mr. C. Bieg, representing the colt’s Trainer, Mr. M. Price, to view the official footage from the entrance to the straight.

PRIMA (NZ) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a poor recovery and a discharge from the off side nostril. Messrs. L & S Hope, the Co-Trainers of PRIMA (NZ), were advised the results of an endoscopic examination and a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting the gelding for a future trial or race.

MAYSOOR lost its off hind plate during the event.

RACE 8 : DRINK DRIVING? GROW UP HANDICAP - 1200 metres

(run on Morphettville track)

The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes owing to MISS JOOLIA, which contacted a gate when leaving the mounting enclosure, being examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival at the start. MISS JOOLIA was ruled fit to race.

SECRETMENSBUSINESS (R. Stewart) jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. CANON DIABLO (P. Gatt) raced keenly in the early stages of the event.

WHO YOU KNOW (S. Price) pulled hard in the early and middle stages of the event.

At the entrance to the straight MISS JOOLIA (E. Boyd) was obliged to alter course to the inside of NIGHT BREEZE (D. Yendall) to obtain clear running.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres LIZANA (B. Claridge) was inconvenienced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TORI’S GIFT (S. Carr), which rolled in.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow H. Coffey, the rider of the third placegetter YEN, to view the official footage in the straight.

S. Carr, the rider of TORI’S GIFT, reported her mount commenced to weaken in the straight and was inclined to shift about. TORI’S GIFT was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

E. Finnegan, the rider of REWIND TIME, reported the gelding began better than expected and as a consequence she found herself in a forward position and was obliged to settle forward, which was contrary to her instructions and intention, which were to settle back in the field. She added the gelding hung out in the straight. REWIND TIME was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

FAMOUS JAYNE, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.
