Inside This Issue:

Greater Nevada’s newest branch, located in the Ridgeview Plaza on the corner of McCarran Boulevard and Mae Anne Avenue in northwest Reno, had its official ribbon cutting on June 9. Our new northwest Reno branch provides a progressive in-branch experience and also includes a walk-up ATM with check deposit, along with a 24-hour depository for the convenience of our business members. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 am–6 pm and Saturdays 10 am–3 pm.

The new branch also means that all members now have access to nine full-service branches in northern Nevada, plus the 5,000 shared credit union branches located nationwide through the CO-OP Financial ServicesSM network. The network provides

members with access to nearly 30,000 fee-free ATMs as well.

At Greater Nevada, we’re always looking for ways to make your life Greater, and we’re thrilled to add the new northwest Reno branch as one of the many ways we do that. To easily locate any Greater Nevada branch, CO-OP ATMSM or CO-OP

Shared BranchSM, visit gncu.org and click on Locations or Services.

Your Goals Are Our Goals

Greater Nevada Credit Union and Greater Nevada Mortgage, our well respected real estate lending subsidiary, are both in the midst of an exciting time in each company’s history. They are abuzz with activity and accomplishment on a variety of fronts. Included among them are some of the items highlighted in articles elsewhere in this issue:

• Celebrating the opening of a new GNCU branch in northwest Reno • Preparing for new technologies that will help us take member

service to new levels, and

• Receiving recognition as one of the top employers in northern Nevada These successes provide the impetus and momentum to take on new endeavors that will allow us to serve you ever Greater. Yet even as we continue to invest in the bright future of Greater Nevada, one basic concept never changes around here. That is our commitment to each GNCU member that every employee is here to provide you with the excellent service and high quality products you expect from us. After all, once you decided to become a member of our credit union, you also chose to become one of its owners. That’s why you deserve our best each and every day.

So even as we continue to keep an eye on the future in order to broaden our services for the increasing number of consumers and businesses who desire what we have to offer, our main attention remains squarely focused on you—GNCU’s 46,000 existing members. Whether they are large or modest, short-term or long-term, we are here to help you reach the goals you have in your life. That’s the sole reason Greater Nevada Credit Union and Greater Nevada Mortgage exist, and all 200 of our employees work daily to honor that promise.

Along those lines, we truly want to know what we can do today to help you get where you want to be in life. That might mean having a lower cost checking/debit account, exploring options for purchasing a new home, seeking information on financing a business venture, earning more on your personal investments, funding health care costs, buying a new vehicle or RV, restructuring existing debts, or saving more for the future. We have the tools to help with those situations and many more. All you need to do is let us know how we can!

Warmest regards and God bless,

Wally Murray President/CEO

Tips for Using Your

First Checking Account

Your first checking account is a big step toward more financial freedom and more responsibility. The following are some key habits for staying in charge of your finances now and for the long run:

Keep track of your transactions and balance your account regularly online or by phone so you know how much money you have and how much you’ve spent. Don’t forget about transactions scheduled to come out of your account automatically, such as online subscriptions or bill payments.

Don’t spend what you don’t have available in your account or you could end up paying overdraft fees. Take it a step further and make a budget so you can better plan your spending and saving based on your income and expenses.

Protect your account. Never give your personal identification number (PIN), online banking password, or other sensitive information to anyone. Also, be aware of possible scams like suspicious phone calls, emails or text messages asking for your account information. Contact Greater Nevada immediately if you’re unsure about any requests you receive for your personal information.

Shop safely online. Only use websites and retailers that have a good reputation when you shop online and never give out personal information, like your Social Security number.

IRA Rollovers for

Lump Sum Pension Payouts

Give your assets the opportunity for further tax-deferred growth

If you are taking a lump sum pension payout from your former employer, what is the next step for that money? How can you make your assets work harder for you? Your money shouldn’t just sit there; keep it growing by rolling it over to a traditional IRA.

By arranging a rollover of your lump sum distribution to a traditional IRA (assets are not Roth eligible), you may defer taxes on those dollars.** If you’ve already taken a payout, you can still defer tax if you place the distribution into an IRA within 60 days of the payout. If you decide to deposit your lump sum payout into a non-IRA bank account, your assets will be considered taxable income by the IRS. Also, per IRS regulations, your employer must withhold 20% of a lump sum payout.

In a Traditional IRA, those assets can be tax-deferred and invested as you like. Your money will not be taxed until it is withdrawn. Talk to a Greater Nevada Financial Services professional who can help you with the paperwork and get your IRA rollover going.

Give Yourself a Break

with a Greater Nevada

Home Equity Line of Credit

Why pay high interest credit card rates when it could cost much less to tap into a home equity line of credit (HELOC)*. With a HELOC, you can use the equity in your home for money when you need it, at a much lower rate.

A HELOC can be used for many reasons, such as consolidating high interest debt into one affordable payment, making home improvements to increase the value of your house, or to pay for unexpected expenses, such as repairs or new appliances. Plus, the interest may be tax deductible**.

For more information about how HELOCs work, visit

itstimenevada.com/blog. Or speak with a Greater Nevada representative today.

** All loans subject to credit approval. Property values determined by appraisers selected and approved by Greater Nevada. Property insurance required.
