1.1.1 Technical Requirements

Report Maker works on all computers SimaPro can run on. The system requirements for SimaPro can be found here: http://www.pre-sustainability.com/content/system-requirements

SimaPro and Report Maker need to be installed on the same machine. The database can be located anywhere as long as SimaPro can open it.

1.1.2 License / test

You can try Report Maker and make full use of the program for 30 days, starting from the day you first install Report Maker. To keep using Report Maker after 30 days, you need to purchase a Report Maker license. For pricing and purchasing see: www.pre-sustainability.com/content/report-maker.

1.1.3 Microsoft Office

Report Maker is a program to export and maintain charts and tables in Microsoft Office programs so a recent version of MS Office should be installed before Report Maker can be installed.

Currently supported Office versions are MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2010 including ribbon bar. Only Microsoft Office is supported by Report Maker. Other office applications like OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and StarOffice are not supported.

1.1.4 Automatically installed software

 Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Report Maker is a .Net4 application (a reboot is needed).

 Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime for adding an extra ribbon bar to Word and Excel The installer of Report Maker will download these general Microsoft Windows modules during the installation process, if they are not yet present on your computer. If this is not possible or allowed, you should download and install these modules manually before you run the Report Maker setup.

Installation process of Report Maker

1. Close all MS Office programs.

2. Download and install the SimaPro Report Maker-installer file from www.pre-sustainability.com/content/report-maker.

3. If .Net 4 installed is not installed on your computer, you get a message about “Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (x86 and x64)”. Accept this to install the .Net 4 platform.

(For Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) you need to do this manually see the troubleshooting section).

4. Accept the license agreement of Report Maker.

5. If not already present, the installer will ask if “Visual Studio Tools for Office runtime” should be installed. If you don’t do this, the Report Maker installer will rollback the installation.

After this installation procedure you should have:

 An extra SimaPro ribbon bar menu in both Word and Excel (version 2007 & 2010)

 Extra menu-options in SimaPro to export linked content (named item descriptors) You can learn how to use Report Maker in the Report Maker user manual.

Backups

Report Maker itself does not store any information. All information you enter is stored in SimaPro, and the MS Word and MS Excel documents which are updated. So please make regular backups of your SimaPro database and your documents.

Troubleshooting

5.1

No Service Pack 3 for MS Office 2007

To run Report Maker, Service Pack 3 for Office 2007 needs to be installed. You can get this via

www.update.microsoft.com or http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27838

5.2

Office 2007 Ribbon bar for other Windows users

In Office 2007 the extra Report Maker ribbon bar will only appear when you log in (in Windows) with the same user as the one that did the installation.

There are some workarounds for this problem:

 Run the Report Maker installer, and choose the repair action

 Double-click the "Report Maker Excel 2007 In.vsto" and "Report Maker Word 2007 Add-In.vsto" files in the “C:\Program Files\SimaPro Report Maker” directory when you are logged in as a different user

 Install hotfix package 976477: should be done before installing Report Maker (can be obtained from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976477)

5.3

Slow on computers with little memory

Please close all other applications (also SimaPro) when you update a MS Word or MS Excel document on slower computers.

5.4

COM precautions with multiple SimaPro versions

Because a COM-interface can be registered only once on a computer, there might be a conflict between multiple suppliers of that COM-interface. In practice it means that the last SimaPro that is installed will replace the COM-registration. You can influence this in SimaPro by doing an explicit unregister + register action from within the SimaPro version that you want to handle all COM-functionality (Help > (un)register COM server).

5.5

Manually install .NET Framework 4 for Windows Server 2003 (32bit)

When installing Report Maker on Windows Server 2003 (32bit) you first need to install the .NET Framework 4 manually:

 Download the .Net 4 installer from:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851

 Run it; it will prompt you to download Windows Imaging Component (WIC) first

 Run WIC installer

 Finish .Net4 installer
