Accroche marketing: En production de l’électricité, la tendance est de s’orienter vers les énergies renouvelables. Parmi elles, l’exploitation de l’énergie hydraulique - d’une longue tradition – est toujours la plus importante. Une centrale hydro-électrique abrite machinerie et équipements électriques complexes, formant des groupes, qui doivent être soigneusement installés et régulés pour rester synchronisés avec voltage et fréquence du réseau. Comme ces aménagements se trouvent aux quatre coins du monde, souvent éloignés de la civilisation, il est coûteux d’y envoyer un grand nombre de personnel pour faire ces travaux. Cependant, le personnel local manque, d’habitude, l’éducation et le savoir nécessaires et, faute de voir la centrale comme système et comprendre son fonctionnement, il risque de commettre des erreurs qui coûtent cher. On a donc eu l’idée de faire un simulateur de centrale hydro-électrique à petite échelle, qui est destiné à la formation de travailleurs et professionnels sur site.
Résumé: The main emphasis is given on the controlling of the powerplant as an independant unit or included in a wider powergrid. All the pertaining equipment (controllers, etc.) of the small scale powerplant will be the same as in a real one. The mechanical parts are of course of much smaller size.
The main aim of the project is to prepare employees of lower education for a more
independent task execution. The job of controller programming is not physically demanding and can be performed by disabled employees as well. Companies that make powerplants are usually large companies with many employees. Due to the nature of the work accidents are inevitable. The casualties are often disabled and consequently it is difficult to find a proper job for them within the company. Controller setup is probably the least physically demanding job in such projects and it is therefore very benefitial if employees can be trained to perform that kind of work.
Description: The powerplant simulator was designed by Litostroj Power, KD Blansko and University of Ljubljana. An analog version of such a machine is successfully used in KD Blansko for education purposes. Whit their expertise, Litostroj Power constructed the simulator and program the controller. University of Ljubljana helped in the design process and wrote a detailed textbook for the simulator together with the control theory background. Because Litostroj has a lot of projects in South America it is very beneficial if the programmers can speak in Spanish as well. Although they attend Spanish language courses it is difficult for them to communicate with local people, because they don't know the technical terms. For that purpose Agpyme S.L. from Spain joined the consortium. They translated the textbook in Spanish language. Whit their translation it will be possible to learn all the technical terms easily. The dissemination, testing and evaluation was done by ŠC Kranj, SiPŠ.
As a result of the project we expect the (disabled) people who will finish training on this simulator to be easily employed on one of many projects in South America.

The product of the project is a compact model of horizontal Pelton hydro power plant with one jet nozzle. It is regulated by digital turbine governor. The device is used for control
programming and observing the system response to different input signals. User manual is written for teachers in English and Spanish language. The product was evaluated by consortium teachers and their students. After evaluation and modification the product was ready for other interested groups.

Texte marketing: There is an ever increasing emphasis in renewable energy sources in power production. One of the oldest and most extensively used ones is the hydropower. A typical hydro power plant is a complex feature of engineering that has to be precisely controlled and synchronized with the power grid voltage and frequency. Hydro power plants are commonly located in remote areas all over the world. The training on hydropower plant is usually limited to individual systems and cannot be observed as whole. Therefor we designed small scale model of hydro power plant which is accessible to students or trainees from different fields of vocational education. The device can give trainee possibility to see actually operation of the hydro power plant and its operation without disturbing the power grid and travel to remote are.
Description: Hydro power plant simulator is a small scale model of the actual hydro power plant with horizontal Pelton turbine. The turbine is controlled by a modern digital turbine governor with AUTO/MANUAL operation. It is an effective didactic tool for practical work for the power station operators, programmers, maintenance personal, measuring crews, university students and secondary vocational students.

Texte marketing: Turbine governor is key element for turbine control. The governor system consists of electronic part and hydraulic part. Control of the turbine is accomplished by controlling the position of the needle and deflector servomotors. The governor is designed and equipped for starting the turbine locally and remotely, for automatic synchronizing and for automatic control of the turbine when the unit is connected to the network. To avoid system instability it is necessary to understand control theory. For that reason we produced user manual that describes control theory with the instructions how to operate simulator.

The manual presents the block diagram outline of the systems, modelling by differential equation, block diagram algebra, Laplace and Fourier analysis, stability considerations, analog and digital implementation of the PID control algorithms. Education on hydro power plant simulator
Date 25.09.2014Description The first training on Hydro power plant simulator was made in 25th of September. The training attended 15 students from Kranj school center (ŠC Kranj). Students were divided into two groups, one group heard lectures on hydro power systems and water turbines while the second was conducted practical exercises on the simulator. After the exercise was done the groups changed.
